Local lawyers fight for flood victims for free

Guilderland -- “Please if you are an attorney, in this area and you can help these people,”  requested attorney Cynthia LaFave, “one day of your time, when they have lost so much, would be so helpful.”
So far 40 attorneys from across the state have signed up to help out. They are focusing their attention on the three counties hardest hit by the devastating floods - Greene, Schoharie and Montgomery counties
“We had twenty or thirty people come through my office in the first day or two,” said Windham attorney Sean Doolan. His practice suffered from extensive flood damage, but after the flood he cleaned up, and opened his doors to the community. Attorney Cynthia LaFave was also flooded out due to Hurricane Irene – her house was cut off from the outside world for 36 hours.
These attorneys will be working Pro Bono to answer questions all flood related issues - from mortgage deferments to claim denials. Time is ticking - a proof of claim needs to be submitted within 60 days.

Well the lawyers are alomst universally democraps. When the Bar and Trial Lawyers back a republican, it is national news. So there are your democrap vultures!

ha ha... good one..most lawyers i know are in the GOP.... do a google on congress and u will find 90 percent are lawyers and 90 percent of them are goppers.. but whatever, donlt want to rain on your little fantasyworld

I happen to know sean doolan personally and I will tell you that he and his entire staff is great.

I really don't know, nor do I care, if he is a dem or not....really!!

The lawyers deal with the banks. Have a mortgage on a house which was destroyed in the flood, you're going to need an attorney.

BTW, what's YOUR problem with pro bono attorneys SB....oh yeah, if it was a DEM idea, they'd use City attorneys, charge $100 per hr and bill the taxpayers for the expense.  

I can't speak for any lawyer, just what I know of doolan. They are offering their services FREE....for folks who need legal advice regarding lost legal documents, mortgages etc.........

the forcing of the socialist democratic run insurance companies to pay for the act of their god.....

although the dems will be standing by licking their chops after they feed too.....the laws aren't made in a vacuum.....

BOTH PARTIES PARTAKE IN LEGISLATION/LITIGATION.....

socialist run insurance companies? i think not. they are the apex of capitalism -- the earn profit by using well defined risk plans and they always , always make money

This is the HUGE problem associated with this flood. You cannot obtain flood insurance if you're not in a designated flood plain (BTW the flood insurance is double a regular insurance policy and usually mandatory if you have a mortgage).

Unfortunately, many of the people in Schoharie aren't in a flood plain and could never get flood insurance. A total catch 22 and a real heartbreak for so many families who lost their homes.

It's a real testimony to goodwill when attorneys will help pro bono because these people are in desperate need of it.

My hats are off to those who are suing the insurers. Any attempt to sue the State or it's sister agencies such as the Canal Corporation will be met with immediate dismissal from one of our finer jurists.....I can hear the nattering now
