Public Safety is my # 1 priority --- and I believe is the #1 priority of most town residents.   I will NEVER apologize for wanting our town to have the BEST public safety possible and I certainly will NOT apologize or compromise when a public safety agency is only asking to bring its facility UP TO state standards.

Quoted from Madam X
You Rotterdamians should cough up more money for improvements you will need to fight all the fires that will be started in vacant buildings that people got taxed out of.

Ya gotta point there!!

However, if pine grove tries to back door this tax increase in on the taxpayers in that district, the folks already said that they would never support or donate to them again. And the taxpayers said they would sue the town if they tried to inflict another unnecessary tax increase. There are some folks in that district who thought that even tho the vote failed, they would try to force the tax 'some way'. Some of these folks have already retained legal council.

Pass the pop corn....

Then why not sign over your weekly paycheck to PGVFD and say that's that?  Why push it on to all of us?  I love those that serve in public safety, and wouldn't want anything to ever happen to them, especially if they were coming to my house to help me and my spouse.  Maybe I will send them a check and say that it should be put towards this project.  Maybe they should have a boot drive.  I know that at certain times SSFD does it at 5 Corners, usually staying at the corner of Mariaville and Princetown, but why couldn't Pine Grove come here and do on, or do it at the corner of Rt 7 and Pangburn Rd, or right at Thruway Exit 25A?

As long as the fire district follows the law - there would be absolutely no basis for a law suit.   The fact is that the improvements to the building are necessary  ---- there is a perfectly legal mechanism for paying for the improvements through the regular budget process.   And I say --- go for it.  We can't afford to allow our public safety to be endangered in any way just because of the lie and smear campaign of the Republicans/NNTPers.

If it comes from the taxpayer funded budget there should be a referendum vote or there may be a challenge to the legality of the process.

the district is required to put it up for a vote -- if they bond the project -- but if they pay for it through the annual budget ... there is no requirement for a referendum

There will be a legal challenge as it's not fair for the rest of the town to pay for the expense of a single fire districts improvements. If this were to be allowed then the same procedure could be used to pay for improvements of a sewer district, or water district without the rest of the towns approval.

You are correct and the taxpayers are already preparing for it......just in case. Some retained an attorney from downstate that specializes in NYS town government laws. Although some folks are saying that the rotterdam pine grove fire dept said it was a dead issue and won't pursue it for a few years. Time will tell.

That's not what the is coming out of the rotterdam pine grove fire department. They said that they understood the taxpayers and would possibly put forth another proposal in a few years.

apparently you don't understand that the budget for a Volunteer Fire District is paid for by a tax paid by ONLY the property owners within the Fire District  ------------ therefore your statement is COMPLETELY FALSE
