As far as I am concerned -- whatever it takes to legally get the expansion built should be done. It is necessary and essential -- we can't put off making the improvements.

The only "dead issue" in town --- is the NNTP/Nayboobs/Tea-partiers ----- they were flattened and left for road kill by the Re-Unite Rotterdam Express. |

The Nayboobs a.k. Republican/NNTPers/tea-partiers think that their 4th gradish level insults bother me or will somehow silence me from expressing my opinion. They are wrong -- and that explains why they were soundly rejected by the voters of Rotterdam and will NEVER be taken seriously in this town or county or most of this country (except the backwoods of Idaho where the rest of their fellow skinheads live) |

This is based on the Rotterdam dictators opinions...Rotterdam democrats don't like direct democracy when it runs counter to what they believe is best. They are the elitist's who need to tell the residents what is "necessary" and "essential". Oh please...Oh PLEASE try to force it through and override the voters. Show the residents how stupid they are and how "essential" this is to their safety. That should make Town Meeting real pleasant. |

The referendum was defeated because the FACTS which showed the necessity of the proposal were not understood by the voters. The Lying and Deceiving Nayboobs/GOP-NNTPers tried to paint the proposal as an unnecessary project .. they used words like "taj mahal" and other lies and deceptions. If my understanding is correct -- there is a way for the Fire District to move ahead with the expansion and withOUT having to involve the Town Board --- all perfectly legal ---- and IMHO ---- they should go for it and get the necessary work done. |

Oh please oh please, raise the resident’s taxes after they soundly voted it down in a direct vote. Please use legalese as an end around to raise taxes on residents for a service they deemed unnecessary. Now you are claiming the people were too stupid to understand what they NEED. The newly elected professional bureaucrats can show us how they don't need the consent of the residents, and can get around direct democracy. This gets better and better. |

The people/voters aren't stupid -- but the Republican/NNTPers/TEA-Partiers who lied and distorted to influence the vote are the ones who IMHO are the ignorant and dangerous element that is trying to lead our town down the wrong path.
The people/voters will make great choices IF they are told the truth -- and one way or the other the improvements will have to be completed --- that is something the Nayboob/NNTPers don't seem to understand or comprehend. The district will have to buy new fire trucks in a couple of years and will have to have a barn big enough to house the new equipment. The district must have decontamination showers and other necessary improvements ---- the improvements will come ---- they will probably have to be done incrementally .. but they will be done. |

I believe that it is illegal. Any increase in a taxing district needs a majority vote from the property owners. |

The actual budget of the fire district does NOT go out for a vote of the residents. A BOND ISSUE would require a vote of the property owners --- but if the cost of the expansion was NOT bonded but broken down and included in the regular budget ---- it would NOT require a vote of the residents. |

Oh I hope they do this through the budget process. The first responder community (that live in a parallel universe) think Butfarti can cast a magical spell over the people to accept higher taxes. Do fire taxing district budget increases affect the 2% property tax cap? Whose piece of the tax revenue pie is going to sacrifice for the district 5 renovations? The police? The senior center? The parks and recreation? The highway department? The water districts? Who will lose out? Budget time will be like playing lottery, who will win and who will lose. Let the fun begin!!! |

It appears that it will take some time before this issue rears its ugly head again in rotterdam. In the mean time, there should be an audit done by a private entity. |
