Due to Wednesday’s heavy rains, many municipalities and officials are instituting states of emergency and calls for evacuations due to flooding.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY
The county emergency services office is expecting flooding along the Mohawk River throughout the county, with the initial crest expected after midnight.
Officials are strongly suggesting that residents move to higher ground. Shelters are being set up. Contact your local public safety officials for more information.
SCHENECTADY COUNTY
Schenectady County and the towns of Glenville, Rotterdam and Niskayuna along with the city of Schenectady and the village of Scotia are advising residents in flood prone areas to evacuate due to possible flooding along the Mohawk River.
In the city of Schenectady, Acting Mayor Gary McCarthy is extended the state of emergency through Sept. 12.
There are voluntary evacuations recommended for the Stockade. Police advise residents to leave by 4 a.m. Thursday. A shelter will be set up at the city’s Bureau of Service Facility, 1776 Foster Ave. Residents can move their vehicles to the Union College Park lot, 450 Nott St. CDTA will provide transportation at the corner of State Street and Washington Avenue and at 450 Nott St.
Rotterdam and Glenville residents in the area from the Pattersonville Furniture Store on Route 5S east to where the County Bike Path crosses Route 5S near I-890 are asked to evacuate. The Route 103 Bridge is closed. A shelter will be available at the Schalmont High School gym. Residents can call the Rotterdam Police at 355-7331 for more information.
Glenville residents in the area around Freeman’s Bridge Road and Alplaus and Brookside avenues are being advised to evacuate by 6 a.m. Thursday.
In Scotia, residents in the area of Washington, Schonowe, Riverside Place, Pleasantview, Beacon, Dungan, Elliot Street (between S. Holmes and S. Toll), Lee and Livingston are asked to leave by 4 a.m. Thursday.
Niskayuna Isle residents, as well as those along Rosendale, Lock 7 Road and low-lying areas near the Rexford Bridge should evacuate by 10 a.m. Thursday.
