How to Get Help from FEMA
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that federal aid has been made available to the State of New York to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by Hurricane Irene.
All Schenectady County residents who have property damage or who have had to evacuate because of the disaster should contact FEMA immediately to register for assistance. Individuals can register online at http://www.disasterassistance.gov, or can call the toll-free registration number at 1.800.621.FEMA (3362).
Disaster assistance applicants, who have a speech disability or hearing loss and use TTY, should call 1.800.462.7585 directly; for those who use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS), call 1.800.621.3362. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.
It is extremely important that residents document all damage, preferably with photos and written lists of items damaged. This should be done before any clean-up is begun.

I might ad that our County Legislature Chair, the Honorable Judith Dagaostino has been calling via a county phone system in order to better assist people get the help they are entitled to from FEMA and other agencies and as always she is terrific. Many of you have gotten her call and, as in the case of my family, feel much better knowing Judy is on our side and is there for us during this terrible crisis. Thank you, Judy. Working together WORKS! |

I have, just maybe they didn't want to be on the news. In fact, the one that I saw requested I not mention that he was down there at the previous occassion that I saw him. Since then, I have seen him down there an additional 2 days, including earlier tonight. If you haven't seen them, it just means you haven't been there. Also, I would like to throw out a thank you to Mallozzi's for coming down and making Chicken Parm and Ziti for dinner for the residents / volunteers. |
