Wikipedia

Claret (play /ˈklærɨt/ klarr-ət, not /klæˈreɪ/ kla-ray)[1] is a name primarily used in British English for red wine from the Bordeaux region of France.
[edit] Usage

Claret derives from the French clairet,[2] a now uncommon dark rosé and the most common wine exported from Bordeaux until the 18th century. It is a protected name within the European Union, describing a red Bordeaux wine, accepted after the British wine trade demonstrated over 300 years' usage of the term.[2]

Claret is occasionally used in the United States as a semi-generic label for red wine in the style of the Bordeaux, ideally of varietals authentic to the region. The French themselves do not use the term, except for export purposes.

The colour "claret" resembles the red hue of Bordeaux wine. It has become a slang term for blood, as in "tapping the claret" meaning giving someone a bloody nose.[3]

Again, the nattering nayboobs show their true nature -- they are unable to engage in any meaningful discussion or conversation.   They are only capable of immature personal attacks and spouting stupid comments.

The topic of the thread is the Rotterdam Junction Flood ---   obviously the nattering nayboobs couldn't give a damn about the poor people in the junction.

Schenectady unites to help flood victims
Schenectady unites to aid victims as crews haul mountains of refuse

By Paul Nelson Staff writer
Published 12:00 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2011

SCHENECTADY -- The powerful one-two punch of Tropical Storms Irene and Lee that lashed the region left behind tons of unusable household items and flood-weary residents who have received a wellspring of support from neighbors and strangers alike.

In the hard-hit Stockade section, city sanitation crews have hauled away 200 tons of mud-caked couches, appliances, mattresses and clothing over the past few weeks, said Bill Macejka, the city solid waste supervisor.

The devastation is much the same on the other side of the Mohawk River, where his crews removed nearly 100 tons of trash from the village of Scotia and 269 tons from the hamlet of Rotterdam Junction as of Friday, Macejka said.

The trash is being trucked from local transfer stations to the Seneca Meadows Landfill in western New York, he said.

Macejka saw people huddled outside a Rotterdam Junction home who asked sanitation workers for a minute to reflect before the crews removed the mound of debris.

"They were saying goodbye to some memories, things they can't replace," he said.

At the same time, Macejka said that once the refuse is cleared away, it can be cathartic because "psychologically people don't have to look at massive piles and that made them feel better."

The supervisor said residents really appreciated the efforts of his crew of 42 sanitation workers.

"We're garbage men. We're not used to people being happy to see us. But these people were ecstatic to see us," said Macejka. "The crying didn't stop."

On Friday, the city launched an Adopt-a-Neighbor program. Over the next two Sundays, a booth will be set up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Schenectady Greenmarket for volunteers to sign up to donate time, money or materials to flood victims. At the same time, Stockade residents will be able to fill out paperwork outlining their needs. They will be matched with volunteers who will turn out for a workday on Saturday, Oct. 1...................>>>>..................>>>>.................Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/loca.....24.php#ixzz1YDDR09IY

Perhaps the residents are just spent. In most cases the volunteers, as hard as they work, can walk away from time to time. Not so with the residents. just sayin'

If my things were destroyed in a flood, I think I would really appreciate someone emotionally detached coming to haul them away for me. How wrenching that must be.

Point is...I understand the difficult position they are in, but I would be working night and day to get things in order for my family...appreciating any help I would get. I hope they don't think others will get them through. We all know the place was a wreck before...the people just didn't put much effort into things.

I see your point. And obviously, the folks who didn't care 'before' the flood, unfortunately won't be so inclined to care now. The junction is not exclusive to that mind thought.

This is one time I am gonna' go light on the Junction. The rest of Rotterdam isn't much different and Schitnecktitty has become a disgrace in the past decade.

NO PRIDE!

I go to Clifton Park and Burnt Hills and Charlton and I don't see the kind of crap strewn everywhere, garbage tossed from car windows at the rate of 20 tons per day by the residents who foul their own communities with trash. SO it is easy to get disallusioned.

Hang in there. Some might throw in the towel but the people there are strong. Hopefully the Canal Corp will figure out that the river needs to be let down and not kept so high going into major storms with 10 day notice in the future but if this happens again then it is time to rethink living in a constantly changing and evolving flood plain. We are funneling more and more water into the river at a faster rate than ever and if we can't figure out that it is a bad idea then we had better not live so close to a river that is going to immediately overflow when there is such rainfall. Our environment is being changed rapidly by the state with their constant environmental "remedies" of "stormwater management" which is a flop, as we can now see. Channeling as much rainfall to the river so immediately has backfired. The floodplain cannot withstand it.

At least I have real-world experience! Something you don't have, at anything.

Carmello Mantello was very helpful to the town - in particular the Parks and Recreation Commission in our inquiries regardng our proposal for a new town park in Rotterdam Junction.   I don't hold her responsible for a natural disaster -- neither do I hold the current canal corporation director responsible.  I wish Ms. Mantello best wishes in her future endeavors and hope that the voters of Troy make an informed choice for their next leader and hope that whomever is elected can successfully face the challenges confronting that city.

This is no one person's fault and a tragedy in its entirety. Of course if the followers of the funny looking man with a mustache had been swept downstream then it would have been a cause for celebration. Having that group of boobs washed away would have made our county the very best it could be with no exceptions--- Of course the next time they lean over a railing at the Lock -- lets hope a mule or goat is there to lend a swift kick in the hindquarters! I only pity the poor downstrream resident....they would have to deal with the toxic cleanup from fishing the corpses put of the water.......... the Nayboobs are poisonous!

I think we need to rename BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) into RDS (Republican Derangement Syndrome) or PADS (Previous Administration Derangement Syndrome).  That one actually would work for both parties...  When is anyone going to be responsible for what happens on their watch?  If you use the idea that the wars overseas are Bush's fault then you must agree that the attacks on the WTC, DC, and the plane down in PA should have been as a result of the previous administration, but I don't hear anyone yelling that it's Clinton's fault.  Hey, Al Gore never took care of global warming, so maybe Irene was HIS fault.  We can blame anyone you want, but it's not going to change what happened.  You know what? There's POW's that are still being held in Iran.  I hear that their time may be just about up. There was an issue many years ago with the Middle East, so I say that if something happens to these POW's, then it MUST be Jimmy Carter's fault, right?
