9/11 CEREMONY PRINCETOWN — The Princetown Civic/Historical Committee will hold a commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, on Sunday, Sept. 11, near the Town Hall on Princetown Plaza. The event will begin at noon with the ceremonies starting at 1 p.m. Participants will include the Civil Air Patrol Honor Guard, Scout troops, clergy, local law enforcement and volunteer fi re departments, and other area emergency responders and civic groups. White boards covered with written messages by community members 10 years ago are currently on display, and attendees are encouraged to post their thoughts on new white boards set up in the area. This event is open to the public. Refreshments will follow.
Re the Sept. 22 letter, “Democrats dissed Amedore at 9/11 event,” by Norman Miller: Mr. Miller has it wrong yet again. His letter shows disrespect to those who spoke from their heart and with great emotion. This memorial was organized and hosted by the Princetown Civic Committee and was in no way a political event. Elected offi cials, regardless of political affiliation, as well as others who serve our community were invited. On July 20, invitations were sent with the request of a courtesy reply by Aug. 30. On Sept. 9, the programs were sent to the printer. Assemblyman George Amedore had not responded. Someone from the assemblyman’s offi ce left a message at 4:31 p.m. on [Friday] Sept. 9, indicating the assemblyman would be attending, on a phone that clearly states the offices close at 4 p.m.. The message was received the following week. At the beginning of the event Assemblyman Amedore arrived and did not indicate his desire to take part. It would have been our honor to have our assemblyman take part in this wonderful memorial. The onus appears to be on the assemblyman and/or his staff. Civic Committee Chairwoman Cathy Hasbrouck contacted the assemblyman via email after the event, indicating we had been unaware that he would be attending. To date we have received many compliments, and now an apology is due to all those 30-plus people who took part, the 160-plus attendees and the members of the Civic Committee.
CAROL MCCLAINE PRINCETOWN The writer is a member of the Princetown Civic Committee. She’s the one who mailed the invitations and accepted RSVPs.
This sounds like such bureaucratic bullsh*t. Someone leaves a message after hours (isn't that what an answering machine is for?), he then shows up at the event and no one believes that he wants to take part.....he's there!! What more do you want?
Seriously? Sounds like a bad situation at Romper Room. You know, put your personalities aside and do what's right. This Civic Committee needs to take a step back.

OOPS!! Looks like Carol McClaine didn't do her job and pick up messages on her phone! People leave after hour messages all the time believing that it will be listened to the next day!!
It appears that McClaine is just trying to cover her a$$!!
It was one of those OOPS moments for her!

It obviously was about 'something' or McClaine would have never submitted that letter to the editor to cover her a$$ for not checking her phone messages that I would believe is part of her job...no?

or maybe she is just defending herself against the unwarranted accusations of others ...
the fact is that most politicians think they are more important than they really are -- they don't respond to R.S.V.P.s on time or at all (like most normal considerate people would do) -- the bottomline is that the 9/11 Ceremony was to honor the victims of 9/11 NOT to give Amedore or some other politician a venue to prance around and show off in front of the voters ---------------------- politicians are public SERVANTS .. which means THEY must serve the public .. unfortunately too many politicians think the term means that the public is their servant

I don't think your right here DV. If Princetown did invite someone and they showed up, then what the heck is the problem? Not enough cake to go around?
Come on, this was clearly a power play by this committee and they should have just been thankful that Amedore showed up rather than using kindergarten tactics.
It was a 9/11 memorial ceremony, not a time to place your personalities over the priciple of the event. A poor showing for this committee in my opinion.

I have organized events for an organization (non-political) that I belong to -- certain local politicians of BOTH parties would NEVER respond whether they were coming or not -- but then show up at the last minute and expect a seat at the head table. Our policy was -- no r.s.v.p. -- no seat at the head table .. no mention in the program .. no exceptions.
I like Mr. Amedore as a person -- but his presence is not necessary to make or break an event -- and that goes for the presence of a number of politicians of my own political party. We like you -- if you come fine -- if you don't make it -- life goes on.

No DV, in the above letter it states nothing about a table or cake or anything like that, it was about not having Mr. Amedore speak at the memorial.
This Committee did not do the right thing and 'made an example' of Mr. Amedore. I'm sure if President Obama came unexpectedly and without RSVPing, they would have found 2 or so minutes for him to speak.
This issue of some infantile protocol overshadowed what the true spirit of the event was about. Having an elected official speak would have been the proper thing to do, regardless.
Ms. McClaine is just covering her a$$ plain and simple and is making, what should have been, a heartfelt remembrance into a scape goat issue! Shameful!
She should have never written the letter to the editor to begin with....unless of course she is getting some heat for her committee not doing there job, which appears to be the case here.

I never said it mentioned anything about tables or cakes --- what I said is that politicians shouldn't think they are so important that they can ignore requests for an r.s.v.p. and then just waltz in and demand a place in the program.
Quite frankly -- future programs honoring 9-11 victims should just have non-politicians .. maybe school children .. speaking. We don't need more speeches from politicians.

DV, Amedore didn't demand anything - he was there to pay his respects and be a part of this event.
The choice of the committee not to have him speak (when apparently many knew he was in attendance) was a poor decision. This Committee callously did the wrong thing.
Wrong place and wrong time for this Committees 'RSVP policy' to overshadow common decency.
what prompted this was a letter from Norman Miller, who made allegations that the committee purposely excluded Mr. Amedore from the event. He letter suggested the committee snubbed Mr. Amedore for political reasons.
