SCHENECTADY -- A woman remains hospitalized with disfiguring facial injuries after being mauled by three pit bulls while walking along a city street early Monday, city police said Tuesday.

The woman lost both ears and suffered severe injuries to her forehead, arms and legs in the attack at 12:30 a.m. in the Hamilton Hill neighborhood, police said.

The woman, who whose identity not released but is believed to be in her mid- to late 30s, was rushed to Albany Medical Center Hospital for treatment, police said.

Part of the renaissance fair.

This is terrible! An absolute nightmare and I pray this woman makes it through.

We also need to remember the incident on Broadway not too long ago where a stray pit bull attacked a leashed dog being walked by his owner. It's a problem the City has been put on notice about time and time again.

Hopefully something will be done now.

What a tragedy this is!!!!!

I'm assuming that the city has codes on how many dogs a residence can house. Is 3 within code?

This poor woman was mauled, lost her ears and who knows what else and the owner may get a citation?

Most, not all pit bulls I see in my area are NOT on leashes, either running beside the owner who is on a bike, or like one guy who brings his pit bulls to Jerry Burrell Park to let them run in the open field.

A couple of weeks ago a young girl maybe 12 years old came up to me by my house with a small pit bull puppy, asked it I wanted to buy it. She said she didn't want it to go to a black person (her words and she is black) because she didn't want the puppy to be used in fighting.

I'm a sucker for animals, but own cats and not able to care for a dog, but didn't I fall in love with the puppy who of course had to lick my face and didn't want to leave my side

I told the young girl I really wish I knew someone who would want it but I didn't. So she left with it and I pray it goes to a good home.

Some summers there would be pit bull fights in the park, just an awful awful thing to hear the dogs yelping and seeing them dragged away by their "owner" bleeding. Or to see the "owners" kick them around.

Had to come back because I was thinking if the cops can shoot a man who is  a threat why in the hell did'nt they shoot the dogs who could have killed this woman?  So the dogs are at the Animal Protective Foundation, what to be given back to the owner or adopted out? If they can attack so viciously once they will again.

We wouldn't want to lose votes from the core democrap constituency and base so no charges filed. The election is coming and EVERYTHING the democrap operative beast does is predicated ALWAYS on politics and electoral power. There is no substitute high for these cretins.

You're kidding right? NO CHARGES WILL BE FILED AGAINST OWNERS. WTF! This is absolutely disgusting. McCarthy and his DEM rubber stamps have been repeatedly warned about this. Even Mr Strock has demanded action. They do absolutely nothing. Maybe this is the progress they are campaigning on? Someone will be killed before these nit wits act.

Animal Control is woefully underfunded and understaffed. No coverage on weekends. Simply not a priority. Giving money to Bethesda House is. There have been many pit bull attacks at Central Park. Another case where an elderly couple was attacked, collie killed as the pit bull got inside the house. The owner was in court saying it's a good dog and pleading for its release. This could happen in any neighborhood in the City and the problem is spreading Countywide. Owners must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Stop the minor fines and returning them to attack again.

This is so accurate it's unbelievable. And these DEM fossils have the nerve to campaign on quality of life issues. What was the quality of life like in 1975 when these DEM morons took control of City Council? You didn't have to lock your door. There weren't nonprofits on every block. The City didn't flush a million dollars imposing Bethesda House on poorer residents.

This lady could have been anyone. They should open another governmental gin mill and give another millionaire a never ending tax break. After slamming a charter amendment through on the consent agenda.

The owner is in violation of the lease law and the owner is also liable for the damage the dogs have done so take them to court because the city will let them off.

Where is the DA on this? Good luck collecting on a judgement proof pit bull owner. This a criminal matter. The owner needs to be criminally prosecuted. They may get a citation? Unbelievable. The City refuses to do anything.

Talking about consolidation the County should consolidate all animal control operations under the Sheriff. Enact a new County ordinance dealing with this pit bull outrage. Does someone have to die first? It's obvious that the City can't do anything, doesn't have the money to do anything and doesn't have the will to do anything. They are too busy enacting useless charter amendments.

Euthanize the dogs.  Then make the owners pay for the plastic surgery and other costs for pain and suffering.

Last Friday I saw a pitbull alone walking down Crane Street.  Everyone got off the street.  Where were the cops?
