According to a CNN poll here

Well, what a big surprise! As long as it doesn't effect them, they are all for it.
But what they don't want is ANY significant change to entitlement programs...
Either these poll respondents are clueless or they are living in a fantasy world. There is no way you can deep cuts in the budget without hitting those programs...no way.

There is a way to cut deeply but it also makes a huge cut in ONE PARTICULAR ENTITLEMENT.

Cut military spending... a realistic military spending plan that takes into account projected needed weapons systems for the foreseeable future, then cut the rest.  The reason for our huge bloated military was the threat from the USSR.  That threat no longer exists but we still buy weapons systems as if the threat was still there.

The PARTICULAR ENTITLEMENT that should be cut to the bone is the Entitlement of Businesses that feed from the military trough.  They feel ENTITLED to their needless and overpriced weapons systems that is breaking the economy of the USA.

Fund a limited military sufficient to do the job.  The rest is Entitlement Pork for the Rich.

it won't be enough.. Military spending is 5% of GDP, which is historically low. It averaged around 8% in the sixties and around 6% in the 80's. Entitlement spending on the other hand, has gone from 2.5% of gdp in the early sixties to 10% today. From 2005 to the present alone, it has increased by 2% of GDP. So, since 1965, military spending has decreased by by 50% compared to gdp and entitlements have increased by 300% compared to gdp
There is certainly room to cut in the defense budget, but it WILL NOT solve the budget problem by itself.
There has to be cuts in entitlements.. period.

Tax the top 1% at a rate of 99%, triple entitlements, increase the government unionized workforce to 90%, and raise the debt ceiling to $100 TRILLION and borrow the balance from the rest of the world.  If that doesn't work, just turn on the printing press and start printing the funny money and begin air droping money bombs.

CUT CUT CUT!  The richest Americans are paying an actual rate of  between 0% and 17% on their income, while the rest of America pays a much higher rate.  Yet the Right's solution is Cut Cut Cut!
How about Raise raise raise the richest American's rate to at least what it's supposed to be ... in the 30% range.

CUT CUT CUT!  The only solution... yet there are 1400 American Millionaires who pay NO TAX.
Before you cut one dime from any social program... Don't you think those 1400 Americans who are screwing the rest of us should pay THEIR FAIR SHARE?

I have been consistent in my views on this. The solution has to be a combination of tax increases, closure of loopholes and cuts. One without the others will not get this done. The one thing no one talks about with the budget is service of the existing and increasing debt. In reality, THIS is the fastest growing piece of the budget, but its the one that gets ignored because it benefits NO ONES constituency. They figure if they don't talk about it, it will go away. Many economists think we will NEVER be able to repay the existing debt.
The best thing we can do, and should have done instead of propping up failing companies and institutions in 2008, is to liquify the debt.

A perfect reason to change the tax code which is obviously not working and not fair. Cut all programs by a small percentage and eliminate the hundreds of redundant programs and administrative departments associated with them.

(1) ELIMINATE the tax credits that are designed specifically to favor the rich and no one else
(2) REDUCE the operational spending budget of all Federal Government Agencies by 1% and NOT REDUCE THE LEVEL OF EXPECTED SERVICE
(3) REDUCE US OVERSEAS CONTRIBUTIONS/AID SUPPORT by 5%
(4) REDUCE WASTEFUL SPENDING and RIDICULOUS SPENDING - Government pays way too much for just about everything they buy.  They have no cost control measures in-place....they need cost control specialists to review pruchasing practices and get spending in-line with what industry pays.  I purchase a certain "bearing" today from a company and pay $3.45/each for 25,000/yr.  Supplier shared with me that he sells 175,000/yr to Governenment for $7.35 each.  There are a hell of a lot more items like this (remember the hammer cost issue that was well publicized?
(5) Institute a mandatory cost reduction plan for spending to achieve 5% annually and task suppliers with providing this as hard savings under contractural obligation.  Suppliers have no incentive what so ever today to reduce cost to the Government.  If they are not willing to be under contract to do this, then move to another supplier that will....there's plenty waiting in-line that want a piece of the pie.
(6) MERGE SPENDING so that agencies are not buying from same supplier at different prices....suppliers should be selling based on total business with the governemtn and not just based on volume with individual agencies; and margins should be consistant.  Too many suppliers enjoy the conquer and divide....we eliminated that from my company.  Just suppliers I am responsible for, by merging our spend with them, saved $1.7m on $100m Spend.
(7) Implement a 5% "PATRIOT" tax. If a company moves production outside of the US (even to Canada or Mexico) and that company or affiliated company does business with the Federal Government, then they should have to pay an additional 5% tax on profits from all of their locations.........this would be needed to cover unemployment/reemployment of the workers losing their jobs.

Just some of my thoughts!!!!!!

JUST BECAUSE SISSY SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO...BUT HE THINKS IT DOES!!!!!

Then what do you do once you realize that taxing those 1400 “rich” doesn't even touch the MASSIVE $14 Trillion debt we've already racked up, or the mind blowing projected debt?  I know what they'll do, recalculate what is considered "rich" and go after the middle class money.  Then recalculate the COLA formula to convince the masses there is no inflation as a result of all the money they will inevitably print.

I understand that the number $14 trillion is surreal to most and the 10’s of trillion in future entitlement spending is incomprehensible.  But people need to stop listening to political antidotal evidence and get a grip on reality.  For those accustom to the free ride, the free rides are over, Americans are going to be poorer after this all washes out.

Cicero is posting about Americans being poorer... but doesn't seem concerned about the 1400 American Millionaires who pay NO TAX.

The Bush Tax Cut for the Rich was all borrowed money (mostly from China) and instead of the Rich now paying their fair share... Cicero is advocating... the Middle Class pay more.

If Cicero really wants those who are accustom to the FREE RIDE to pay more, why not start at the ones with the most income who pay absolutely NO TAXES... who get a 'free ride'... instead of clobbering the middle class yet again.

Revenue comes with job growth and job growth comes with certainty of what the future holds for those who create the jobs.

More poor reading comprehension...I'll try one more time...I am not advocating the middle class pay more, I am located firmly in reality and understand that it is inevitable the middle class pay more since taxing the 1400 rich will not solve the problem.  But if it will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside to take money  from the evil rich, and sill have the same structural debt problem, have at it.  Remeber Box, 49% of Americans don't pay federal income tax.  Let's compare that to your claim of 1400 "rich" that don't federal income tax, and you tell me what is the larger number of Americans getting the free ride.  If you truly believed in being "fair", then you would also ask the 49% that don't pay tax, to start paying.

Who is going to pay for the 49% when the top 1% is broke?  You got it...The top 5%...Then the top 10%...Then the top 20%...Then the top 30% and so on and so forth.  By the time it's done, the top 51% will pay for the bottom 49%.  Rich is a relative term when used politically.

You'd think the Conservatives on this board would tell Cicero just WHO those 50% that pay no taxes actually are...

~ The Disabled, mentally, physically and emotionally... they make little or nothing so pay little or nothing in tax.
~ Grandma, Grandpa and Aunt Tess... along with all the other middle class and poor on Social Security.  They make a few bucks on interest income and those lucky enough to have an actual pension.  They make nothing taxable, so they pay no tax.
~ Kids... those who are working at Dunkin Donuts and living at home with their parents.  They make little so it's not taxable...
~ Single moms with no child support who's husband abandoned his kids... She doesn't even make enough to pay child support, and relies on her family or friends to babysit while she works 25 hrs a week.
~ The unemployed... great idea there. Tax the unemployed, yet ignore the 1400 US Millionaires who pay nothing.
~ Students living at school, earning part time dollars to pay for books, tuition, etc... Not exactly a font of Taxable Income there...

Cicero wants to tax em all!
All those freeloaders with no job...TAX EM!
Grandma & Grampa on SS...TAX EM!
The Disabled...TAX EM!
The Unemployed...TAX EM!

But those 1400 US Millionaires... How did Cicero put it???
OH Yea:
"The middle class pay more since taxing the 1400 rich will not solve the problem."  (A True Conservative!)

Well that would be a good start, I would also eliminate foreign aid and insider bailouts between foreign banks, although that won't happen under this administration
