I actually did meet Hugh Carey -- once before he became governor and a few times while he was in office.

Wow, how grand. Along with Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, the Queen and the Pope. You knew them all! Did you meet the guy who brewed you in a test tube as well- Dr. Mengele?

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Actually, I did see President and Mrs. Reagan in Denver in 1981 -- I was about 30 feet away from them as their motorcade turned from Speer Blvd into the access road to McNichols Arena.

Never met a Pope -- although I have met a few Cardinals and exchange correspondence with 2 of them on a regular basis.

I have been carefully reviewing archival materials from the period -- and have found ABSOLUTELY NO evidence that Hugh Carey laid off any state workers on his 1st or 2nd day in office  --- the only people replaced in thoseearly days of the Carey Administration were political appointees.

The layoffs in New York City due to its fiscal crisis did not happen until several months into the Carey Administration .. and I have found no evidence of state employee layoff notices being issued on January 1 or January 2 - 1975.

I will continue to research the matter -- but I find it quite ironic that the poster who claims to support lower taxes and less government  (all while wanting to impose a confiscatory tax on people who VOLUNTARILY choose to to donate money for their town's parks and recreation system)  is all upset that he lost his supposed state job.

You and your stupid research.  Whatever you say will NOT be believed because you NEVER NEVER NEVER provide one shred of proof.

Of course, I don't have to any "research" project like you, because I have intelligence that far exceeds yours.

Carey became gov in 1975.   Christmas 1975 fell on a Thursday.   Despite a HUGE FISCAL CRISIS in the STATE, and DESPITE the fact (truth) that layoffs tasks were in full swing, Carey gave all state employees an extra holiday, that is, being closed on the day after Christmas 1975.   Can you imagine how much that cost the state taxpayers.  A extra holiday at state expense, in severe fiscal crisis with layoffs in process.  Stage agencies were actually in the process of sending out layoff notices.   See, i have a cousin who worked in a personnel office and was involved in the figuring out of what empioyees were going to be affected.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

You have an IQ less than a piss-ant ... and BTW .. the person who made the BOGUS CLAIM that Governor Carey laid off him and a bunch of stateworkers on his second day in office  (january 2, 1975) could NOT produce any evidence to prove his statement .. because his statement was a lie.

and since you brought your cousin up .. would that be the Mike or the Christine ?.. as I understand most of you Nayboobs marry your cousins.

Former NY Governor Hugh Carey, Who Saved City from Default, Dies. Photo: Wikipedia

Former Governor of New York, Hugh Carey who successfully tackled New York's financial crisis in the 1970's died Sunday. He was 92.

Carey, a Democrat, was New York's 51st governor, serving two terms from 1975 through 1982. Before that, he served for 14 years as a congressman from Brooklyn.

Aptly described as "The Man Who Saved New York" in his biography, Carey became governor at a time when New York City faced default. Several state agencies, municipalities and school districts were close to insolvency. New York City was facing a $5bn deficit and banks had cut its credit. Worsening budget problems had brought the city on the brink of default.

Carey imposed tough financial controls, implemented tough spending cuts and layoffs, increased taxes and lowered state and city budgets to keep the city's economy from crumbling.      http://www.ibtimes.com/article.....ers-dies-default.htm

You can't prove your statement because it is completely untrue -- the fact is that Governor Carey did NOT lay off state workers on his 2nd day in office.  Now go back to licking fleas off your buddies MC and GB.

What's really ironic here, aside from you questioning something like this, is that
(a) Even if I could find supporting information, unless I actually produce a document that identifies that I was specifically layed off, you would still challenge it
(b) I owe you no explanation or proof, because I know the truth and have stated it, like it or not DMOR
(c) You have abslutely NO credibility with anyone, so to have you question my integrity is laughable

Have a nice evening and don't forget to wash your hands!!!!!!

Joeboxer, were you a registered dem or rep at the time of your layoff? There were many laid off at that time, but they were reps that got the 'pink slip'. Just askin.
