When I went to the assessor's office one time, a man there used the ONLINE records to show me the information I requested. There was a computer monitor right on the counter, which he turned so I could see the screen. I'm surprised they didn't update the record of the old exemption when he got the new one.

The online records about which you write was not "official" records.   That was a project done by a guy named Bob Sullivan and he had the stuff available through the Schenectady Library website.   That was the earliest available online version of "asssessment" info.   It was started I think around 1998.  He did that rather voluntarily as time allowed so logially it was out of date.   I'll tell you something else about it, some trivia if you want to call it that, and I believe there was a story written in the gazette about it too----the "records" for properties in Niskayuna on this Sullivan guy's website did not include the owners' names.   In reality, for purposes of gathering assessment values for one to grieve their assessment, one did not need the property owner's name.   Just the info on # rooms, size, etc.   And the people in Nisky were opposed to their names being available so easily.   Now again, remember, that site, often out of date, was NOT "offical public records" so the issue Nisky people had which resulted in elimination of names could be done.   Records today do include names because they are official government records and thus publicly available by law

Well you just about nailed this one!! And yes.....this is what they call 'progress'. Although 'they' don't live in the city and feel the same pain as the residents living there.

First, the taxpayers are paying the property AND school tax bill of Proctors AFTER the taxpayer had to pay MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars for Proctors.

Then the taxpayers are covering part of the school tax bill on the city house

Then the taxpayers are covering part of the school tax bill on the house in Rotterdam (this one seems to be the legal tax exemption)

And on top of all that, he buys a house in town last fall for well over what it is stated to be worth by the town, and then the town keeps the house at the low value rather than increazsing it based on the market value proven by an arm's length sale......so the taxpayers in Rotterdam are basically subsidizing his school tax bill, his county tax bill, and all town taxes that are calculated based on assessment value!

A STAR exemption is not easy to receive and in my experience, Cities and municipalities do not grant these without research.

Truth is MC1, if you never brought this up, it never would have ended. As quietly as it has been 'handled' by the City, I for one thank you MC1 for getting thousands of dollars back to the City schools.

Now if you could just get the City to pay the $2 million they owe the schools?

The truth of the matter is smokey........that IF mc1 didn't bring this to our attention, PM would have continued with this STAR exemption.....and I'm sure you can agree with that assumption.

Now on to a PROCTORS audit!!!
