Maybe the rent from the cupcake place will help Morris pay for the back taxes he owes the City for the illegal STAR exemption he's had for almost a year.

At the 8/8/11 city council meeting the acting mayor stated he was denying  a Comm. of Deeds to a Hull supporter based on an investigation that the person in question may have 3 Star exemptions.   It would appear he missed the one even closer to him. at OSM.

Quoted from Smoking Bananas
as i said before, he no longer has the exemption... they removed him from it for next year ... dig.. it will affect one payment, and he will have to pay a fine.. understand, comprendo? unlike you, I followed up on the matter and learned the truth...

I simply had to find the "best" comment to provide a reply to.   Yeah, we know that SB is too much of a chicken to post (after we ALL proved him wrong over and over), but look at SB's words above, when he posted this comment in 2011.

Of course SB lied.   SB wrote "they removed it for next year" (since since Morris moved in 2010, and the post from last year was for the assessment year for 2011), we know for a FACT that SB's "definition" of "next year" meant 2012     And then he wrote that he "followed up ..... and learned the truth"

ROFL

Oh it would be so good to see SB TRY, TRY to wiggle himself out of this lie.     (Wonder if he's even checking these boards anymore, probably not, can't handle the truth)

By the way, how about that Eric Ely.   He left for a different job two years ago.   We all know the HUGE bonus the taxpayers had to pay.    And in case you haven't heard, the school district that he went to after he left Schenectady, Ely's out looking for another job again.   Details unknown.

But anyway, he is also continuing to get the STAR exemption

How the hell does this happen??? I mean to receive the star exemption, the owner must 'live' in the house!!!

And these dimwits wonder why the city is in the mess it's in!!

AND IT IS A MESS!!! And it happened under the Stratton/McCarthy/Savage/Gillen watch!!!

My gosh folks this is just an oversight!!  He didn't mean to break the law.  Yeah right.

The application for the school tax exemption that Morris signed states that "anyone who misrepresents his or her primary residence, age or income shall be subject to a $100 penalty, shall be prohibited from receiving the STAR exemption for five years, and may be subject to criminal prosecution."

Well folks we all know with the corruption in and around this city this man will have the case dismissed and he will just pay the money if they even ask for it.  Don't hold you breath.

He should be fined that money and the money stole split up and shared with all the senior citizen centers in an around the city.

Notice the Gazette never ran an article about this back when they first heard of it!  What whimps.  Bet they found out about it via this forum.  Who are we kidding.

At most, Morris probably saved $800 to $1,000 from the double exemption, according to Macejka, who said he did his own research in 2011 to be sure that Morris' primary residence was in Rotterdam and the Schalmont school district. More corruption from the political hack assessor who has a whole career and life that centers on unfairness and destruction of people for political purposes.

NOW THAT THE STORY IS NOT ONLY ON THIS FORUM AND IS NOW IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA, THEREBY MAKING IT "TRUE" I CAN ONLY SAY-

PAY THE MONEY BACK MR. MORRIS!

Two STARs for Proctors CEO
City officials call lingering STAR tax break for Philip Morris' Stockade property an oversight

By Lauren Stanforth
Published 9:36 p.m., Monday, December 3, 2012

SCHENECTADY — Proctors CEO Philip Morris received STAR exemptions on two homes for two years even though state law allows the school tax break for only one primary residence.

Morris moved from the city to Schermerhorn Road in Rotterdam in November 2010 and applied for the School Tax Relief, or STAR, basic exemption in December 2010. On a form filed with the town of Rotterdam Assessor's Office, Morris said he had no other property that received a STAR exemption, which allows homeowners to take $30,000 off their assessment for school taxes. But Morris already had a STAR exemption on his former residence on Front Street in the Stockade neighborhood.

It wasn't until September of this year that the city eliminated Morris' exemption for the Front Street property, having allowed him to benefit from reduced school tax bills this year and in 2011.

On Monday, Morris said he did not know he had to inform the assessor's office about his move, figuring his change of address on his driver's license and voting registration would be enough. He said when he received a call in August 2011 from the Daily Gazette inquiring about his two exemptions, he went to the city to get the duplication fixed. The assessor's office says it has a record of Morris seeking to clarify his primary residence on Aug. 2, 2011, the day after school tax bills are released, to have his Front Street STAR exemption removed. It appears that the Gazette did not publish a story about the tax matter.

Nothing changed until after Aug. 23 of this year, when Morris and his wife — both of whom own their two properties — arrived at the assessor's office to change the address because their tax bill for Front Street was no longer being forwarded to their Rotterdam residence. The exemption was removed on Sept. 10.

"I did the change of address immediately when I thought it was an issue," Morris said Monday. "I'm not trying to cheat anybody."

Morris bought his Rotterdam home for $326,700 in October 2010 and put the Front Street home, which he purchased in 2002 for $172,000, on the market, according to Schenectady County property records. Morris is now renting out that house in the Stockade.

Both Rotterdam Assessor John J. Macejka Jr. and Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy recently said they also received calls in 2011 about Morris' double exemption and thought the problem had been resolved. But the 2012 assessment roll clearly states that Morris received his exemption this year on the Aug. 1 city school tax bill.

City of Schenectady Assessor Tina Dimitriadis said Morris' wife would have had to provide her driver's license back in August 2011 for the address change to stick. She said typically her staff follows up with people who haven't provided the right documentation. But among thousands of cases, Dimitriadis said, one can get lost.

"This is not out of the ordinary," Macejka about oversights in the STAR system. "It happens frequently."

At most, Morris probably saved $800 to $1,000 from the double exemption, according to Macejka, who said he did his own research in 2011 to be sure that Morris' primary residence was in Rotterdam and the Schalmont school district.

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Fat Morris screws County taxpayers again! The Gazetto alerted him and then failed in its duty to inform the public. Thank God for the cub reporters here and the Times Union.
The City Assessor should be run out of town on a rail. The Mayor should be thrown out by the State Controller and a State Control Board established. No wonder the City is broke. Not only do they fail to start a PILOT problem with
Fat Morris but he has two star exemptions and still refuses to pay up.

Yeah, sure, tell us another DEM PARTY FAIRY TALE!     By mere coincidence it just happens to be the person who is the king among all who refuses to pay taxes (Proctors)??????

Only one case?   Gee, how about the ousted ex Schdy school district superintendent, Eric Ely?????     How about it Tina?

How about that Pollock guy who has owned a house on Orchard St but lived in Massachusetts, until some court there ordered him, no, ordered his vicious dogs to be moved to Schenectady.  Well?   How about that one Tina?

And how about the loss of STAR for five years!!!!!!!!!!!!    Hey, Morris DID sign that LEGAL DOCUMENT (application for STAR) stating he had no other properties with STAR.   He LIED LIED LIED LIED LIED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    The EVIDENCE is there in black and white (or blue and white, if it was a blue ink pen).

Morris AND his wife had a responsibility, a duty, an obligation to IMMEDIATELY (upon signing the document in the town) to ask the town assessor  "We have an exemption on the house we own in which we used to live, what do we need to do to remove it on that house?"     Since he chose not to divulge the exemption on the other house, Morris, himself, allowed that exemption to continue ILLEGALLY!

BUT THE GREEDY TAXPAYER-PAID MORRIS KEPT HUSH HUSH

HE NEEDS TO HAVE THE PENALTY IMPOSED - LOSS OF STAR FOR FIVE YEARS !!!!!!!
