Schenectady Indian restaurant will cease operating Published 07:35 p.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2011
SCHENECTADY -- The Schenectady version of Shalimar, an Indian restaurant with locations in Delmar, Clifton Park and a lunch-only spot in downtown Albany, has closed after about six months.
Owner Leo Ashiq said that while lunch business was strong, the turnout for dinner didn't justify keeping the location open.

Failure after 6 months, then let's look for another location in the same area? I don't think I would be doing that if I was a successful business owner.

They should relocate to 325 State St-no? The former Metrograft bozo hot spot. The site both Mexican Radio and Wolff's fled from on the same day. Death Ray is such a total failure the Metrograft bozos now trot out Mercury Morris for their comedy shows. This is actually a positive development. Now the County taxpayers can get involved with tax giveaways and Death Ray can review business models-lol.
I had heard that they were coming to Upper Union in the first place, but that place became a cafe. I was disappointed. We used the new location just the other night, for dinner takeout, but although the food is good we thought it was very expensive. That's probably why lunch did better, it was a buffet, people in this area love a buffet.
Perhaps Morris can take it over like the muddy cup..............OR..........Humes/gazette can buy it like he did Cornells.

wow, schenectady must be the only place in the world where restaurants close.... look out people. do not open a restaurnt ghere because we are the only place where businesses fail...
ever been to wolf road., folks? does the insane prison where you stay take you guys out on trips at all? perhaps you can bribe them to take you there where you other closed businesses.

I guess the way I was looking at things is that they pretty much said in the article that the city couldn't bring them enough business, that is unless the government gives them a handout to move to a different location. And as far as Schenectady goes, yes, that IS the only place locally that businesses relocate with the help of goverment (a.k.a. taxpayer) money.
Okay, it turns out the food we got the other night came from the Latham location. That Italian place in the Chrysler Avenue location, they seemed pretty popular for a while, but they couldn't make a go of it there either.
The bottom line is.............not too many businesses succeed in schenectady!! why? Because of the high crime rate. Folks don't venture into the city at night. Probably why this business didn't have too good of a dinner crowd. Couple that with the fact that most folks who live in the city spend their days waiting in line, enjoying a hot dog at the dss building, applying for food stamps and section 8. Add to that, the roads are a disaster!! And last but not least....the city is now home to TWO hamilton hills where shootings are almost a daily occurrence.
This guy needs to look beyond the city limits to set up business if he wants a chance at success.
