Unmaintained Central Park in Schenectady
hardly a ‘Crown Jewel’

Many thanks go to those who support the Sunday concerts in Central Park. I used to attend those concerts when they were in the afternoon and enjoyed them immensely. However, I did take exception to the recent flier describing the upcoming concerts, because Central Park was referred to as the “Crown Jewel of Schenectady”.
While I must admit that the ballparks could be described as jewel-like, and the Rose Garden is something beautiful to behold, the rest of the park is mostly a disgrace. To begin with, the fountain in the middle of the lake hasn’t been painted in at least a couple of years. Then the lake itself, at least at both ends, including the Duck Pond, is thick with debris — something that could easily be cleaned up. The flower gardens in front of the park offi ce building are sorry to behold. One of the gardens that is dedicated to a family, as the sign describes, is nothing but a large bed of weeds. The other one, while holding some flowers, is also clogged with weeds.
Recently I was at the park and attempted to use the ladies room — one of the children standing outside told me that I did not want to go in there and when I looked, I understood why. It was a disgrace and something that those who enjoy the swimming pool and the playground should not have to be exposed to. There is no way I would allow my kids to go into that place. I went into the restaurant and bought a soda so as to be able to use their rest room, only to find it locked with a sign to go elsewhere.
Obviously some of the time that is devoted to the ballparks by the park staff should be diverted to the rest of the park. Whoever is in charge should come out of the offi ce once in a while and do something other than get in the car and go home.

I mentioned in another post how disgusting it is once you really start to look, the place is literally a landfill of garbage. The ponds water looks toxic, you would probably grow another toe if you step foot in it

Great letter! Under the all DEM City morons Central Park, established by the great Mayor Lund, has devolved into a feeding site with pit bull run. A litter filled, graffiti covered, pig pen. Take another look at the sign on Fehr Avenue covered with gang graffiti. The swimming hole is disgusting and the tennis courts are a total mess.

The DEMS can't afford to maintain this former jewel. Thank God for the Rose Garden Association which maintains that away from City Hall incompetents. We need a tennis association and pool association. The worst part is the wall of silence from the press and civic leaders who refuse to call a spade a spade.

Central Park? That's not Downtown. Therefore it receives no funding nor attention from the City 'leaders'.

I do find it quite telling that the DEM fundraisers are being held in the Proctors Key Hall meanwhile the Alliance Party is having its fundraiser in Central Park.

Think we know who are the "haves" and the "have nots" in this Renaissance.

Renaissances take time and you need to give the great leaders another 40 years of control because if you don't then Bush, Nixon and Duci will be running things and ruining the city, which of course is a fine jewel because this letter write doesn't know what she is talking about. How DARE HER!

This is how bad it is. Because the all DEM City morons gave a golf pro ALL the Muni cart rental fees totaling over $300,000 they have no money to maintain any parks. The City Jerk hosts a clean up day bribing sheeple with bad pizza. It didn't make a dent in the garbage bomb over there. Proctor's refuses to contribute a red cent to the pools or parks.

Instead of flushing $100 MILLION on two blocks Downtown, Central Park could have been restored. Minor league baseball, pro soccer, rugby and cricket. A real pool. Tuesday In The Park must be restarted. This would have helped both Woodlawn and Upper Union Street businesses. Instead the clueless DEMS continue flushing Downtown and lying about nonexistent job creation. "Arts" has not added one new job. One business after another is going bankrupt or locking the door with no buyers. And the band played on.

No surprise.   Just the FACTS of the city, more PROOF POSITIVE that the dems ignore the neighborhoods where people live.

Keep giving away the taxpayers' money to the millionaires downtown.   That's all the dems know how to do.    And I DEFY ANYONE to provide any proof to how all those millions have helped the taxpyaers and the neighborhoods.

Well?    Waiting for an answwer.

Actually another though, no, not a thought, but anotheR FACT, more PROOF.

Remember Tuesday in the Park?    Tens of thousands of people came out for that.   Plenty of activities to do, games, entertainmnt, paddle boats, swimming, food booths, picnic tables, and a fabulous fireworks show.

The dems got rid of it.   The dems do not care about the park.  Instead, they take away money from the park, steal from the taxpayers, and give it all to the millionaires downtown and try to put on some event that fails to draw anywhere near the numbers of people that Tuesday in the Park did, and then the fireworks show was crap

Of course we should go back 36 years when the REPS ran City Hall. Then we can blame the REPS for the current all DEM fiscal collapse. Another example of the DEM moron "renaissance". Another example of DEM working together works! Rip off the taxpayers and give the money to DEM connected millionaires. How's the bagel shoppe at the Gillette House doin Smoking Crack? ROTFLMAO!! Keep investigating the "theft" at Proctor's with stooges Mercury and OJ.

We can't have Tuesday In the Park. The DEM Mayor may be offended about someone with a tattoo. If you have an event in the Central Park then Bombers and Proctor's can't sell warm overpriced beer on the sidewalk and rip off the sheeple. The entire City is mess after 35 straight years of DEM rule. The parks are no different. We need to put another stooge from Proctor's on the pathetic City Council-LEEZA!-that will turn it around.

Smokey, I 'could' almost agree with you. Under normal conditions. But these are not  normal responsible conditions. I, personally, do not think that a park should take priority over maintaining infrastructure, improving quality of life and getting a handle on safety/crime. A park should be the 'last' on the list of priorities.

However, that is not the case in the city. They continue to overspend without any plan whatsoever for the future. While the quality of life for the city residents decline.........they manage to find $$$$ to repave and put in new sidewalks that surround Ferrari's restaurant and no farther. Now I'm not implying that the folks that own Ferrari's are politically connected, but it makes one wonder....what the hell are they thinking??

If the powers that be had a fiscally responsible plan and vision as opposed to spending by the seat of their pants, the city would not be in the bad shape it is in today. So for right now....the park is NOT a priority!! It's a mess, and so is the rest of the city.

The role of government is to provide a municipality with low taxes, safety/low crime and adequate infrastructure. The parks, the arts and the rest of the bullcrap should stand in line while they get their 'mess of a house' in order!!

jmho...of course!

What's the matter SB, cat got your tone?   Are you too embarrased to answer?    You have NEVER provded ANY information on what or how the wild spending spree on downtown has helped the people of the city, their neighborhoods, the vale of their homes, there taxes, or the vital services in the city.

The FACT that you can't list anything that has improved for the PEOPLE of the city just proves that the used of tax dollars downtonwn is a total waste.   I'm not against businesses opening there---but it must be done WITH THEIR OWN MONEY.   It must NOT be done by stealing from the taxpayers.

So, SB, what has improved?
Have property values gone up?
Have property taxes gone down?
Has crime gone down?
Has the infrastructure been maintained?
Have fire and police protection been expanded?
Have the parks been maintained?
How many CITY pools are opened today compared to when the dems began their total takever?
The dems exempted a pair of scumlord tax delinquents who caused over a million dollars in damage to that Foster buiding; but tell us, tell us SB,. for the homeonwers who get stuck with ever increasing taxes every year, but who faithfully pay on time every year, and do without so many things in order to keep up their homes---have YOUR DEMS ever exempted those homeowners form paying taxes?
What's improved in education?
How's the rate of vacant housing?
How many good middle income famlies are buying homes in the city to live in.

Well?   Can't provide any answers, can you SB,  because you know darn well that truthful answers (wtih proof) would prove there has been no improvement whatsoever for the homeonwers---in the neighborhoods where they live

If the City can't afford to keep Central Park in decent shape, then the $40k given by Union should NOT have been spent to open 2 other pools in the City. The City is haphazardly spending taxpayer money and even 'donations' for projects which they cannot manage.

The biggest mismanaged project - Downtown.

The DEM renaissance bus exploded in Central Park. After trying to buy bagels in the Stockade. These DEM idiots can't improve ANYTHING. The only thing they can do is flush tax dollars. With both hands. That's why City taxes are the highest in the region and City services are the worst. It's not just the parks, the streets, neighborhoods, resale values, public safety and the business climate all are terrible. And everyone knows it. Who cares what some drooling Clifton Park idiot says? Got any cheap tree grates? lol.
