Box is the same "thinker" that voted for Obamacare to cut Medicare by $500 BILLION and now lies that the REPS want to destroy Medicare. They have no answer. Their glorious leader Obama has exploded the debt by over $4 TRILLION and they have idea how to get out of the hole they created. They opposed every attempt to cut spending and refuse to lead. Obama leads from behind. Obama is not the new Jimmy Carter. He is the new Herbert Hoover, The worst economic leader in American history.

Benny,
I covered that issue back at post #8 of this thread.

Bush raised the debt by 1.6 trillion dollars, that's bad. Obama raised our Debt in just a couple of years by 4.1 trillion and wants to spend more. I agree with you Box that everyone and every company should pay their fair share of taxes but it was Obama who gave GE a pass on taxes and nobody else because Imelt is a useful idiot for his green programs, wind turbines and car batteries. Personally I think that Imelt is just using Obama to get rich. I would prefer a flat tax with no deductions so that we can fire all the lobbyists in Washington looking for deals from the government.

Bumble you really need to read a history book... and while your at it, read some newspapers of the era.

US military  involvement in Vietnam began at the end of WW2.  The French were broke and their military was in shambles, so they were in no position to fight an insurgency in their colony Vietnam.  The USA started paying the bills of the war against Ho Chi Minh in the 40's... supported the French with military aid and supplies into the 50's, and finally when the French were defeated, the USA brokered a bogus peace agreement that split the country in two.  Eisenhower, Kennedy/Johnson, Nixon all supported the war.  The next 20 years of war there were an effort by the Vietnamese to continue to battle foreigners in their country... the Japanese, the French and the Americans, with a pause, then against the Chinese.  Finally, their country is their own.
The vote to go to war was unanimous in the house and 88-2 in the Senate.
From the mid 60's on, opposition to the war came from the Left, not from the Right.
As the war drew on, Liberals and Democrats opposed the war, Conservatives and Republicans supported and continued the war.  Much like today's Bush Oil War, it's very easy to go to war, but almost impossible to end it.

Much mile the WMD argument of the Bush Oil War, the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin Resolution was based on Lies.  The incident that gave the President the authority to to to war NEVER HAPPENED.
Only two senators, Wayne Morse (DEMOCRAT-Oregon) and Ernest Gruening (DEMOCRAT-Alaska), voted against it. J. William Fulbright (Democrat-Arkansas), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, assured senators that the resolution was NOT A DECLARATION OF WAR, and that the President would consult with Congress before expanding U.S. military efforts in Vietnam.

Many Conservative Republican supported the war to the end... Opposition to the war came from Liberals and Democrats.

I read the same site that you posted. And it didn't come from a 'history book' now did it. While you continue to pick out 'certain information' that feeds your agenda, you conveniently continue to leave out the opposing information.

Boxy, you are like a domestic violence victim. Almost to the point of obsession.  It was the government that sent you to the most controversial, unnecessary, political  war in american history. A war with a country that was absolutely a non-threat to this county. A war that created a shameful dis-respect for the men/women in uniform not only by their own country, but through out the world. Yes, your government was the abusers and you were one of many victims. Yet, like a victim, you still look to the same ones that abused you to secure your comfort, well being, solace and political direction. I question why you continue to be the 'good little water boy'.

Yea...blaming the private sector wealthy Americans and condoning the government abuse of power and  tax payer money with taxpaid jets, unwarranted global trips, limousines, cars and taxpaid lifetime benefits seems a bit out of balance. Your direction is a bit misguided with all of the facts considered.  Your attempt at derailing the solution is obvious.

Blah blah blah... yadda yadda yadda...
Bumble makes assumptions, then goes off half cocked in any direction.
The post you quoted was from my knowledge of several history books on the subject.... Do you find an error from this post???

Again, You make assumptions:
You POST:
It was the government that sent you to the most controversial, unnecessary, political  war in american history. A war with a country that was absolutely a non-threat to this county. A war that created a shameful dis-respect for the men/women in uniform not only by their own country, but through out the world.
Vietnam or Iraq???  I see little difference between them.

Another assumption:
"Yes, your government was the abusers and you were one of many victims. Yet, like a victim, you still look to the same ones that abused you to secure your comfort, well being, solace and political direction."
No idea where this is coming from!!!  Sounds like psych 101.
I VOLUNTEERED for the US Military, I wasn't drafted.  I had a choice to join any branch, I chose the Marines.  I could have done many things to avoid both the draft or the war... I didn't.
What I learned about life, in both the Marines and in the War, I wouldn't trade for a nice safe peaceful life some where else.  A victim I am not.

Finally, I stand by my post that you quoted.  In general, and especially as the war continued... Being Conservative meant being pro war, being Liberal was associated with being anti war.
If you find an error in the quoted piece,  please post it.

We will have to wait until they put the bill in writing before we see if it's a good deal or a bad deal and may still have a problem passing in both houses.

Obama just stated he might try to bypass congress on raising the debt ceiling. This whole thing is just starting to look like a power grab by the government, we know we will not default because we already raise enough revenue. The revenue we need is the revenue from job growth not job killing taxes which the government wants. What's happening in DC right now is borderline treason.

The American people will see this Boehner  'Boner', as the Republicans acting like little children... with Obama and the Democrats as the only adults in the room.
Just like in '95-'96.
