Someone isn't even good at name-calling. I don't even know any of you people but if I thought anyone here was idiotic or racist I certainly wouldn't bother with the site, which I use to find a deeper understanding of the issues than is available through local media. Okay, back to the topic - I find this rather shocking. The involvement of newspaper people also, that is just plain weird because of all the cheerleading that paper does for the Metroplex idea. Didn't the city council steal that man's property for some kind of continuation of the "little Italy" theme in that area? What happens to that idea now? Is that what the Gazette people are trying to salvage? I like Cornell's but I believe it has been opened and closed on several occasions, hasn't it? A lot of the good restaurants have that problem, it seems. The family often is much better at food than business. That's why it isn't a good idea to pump too much money (public funds) into one. Schenectady always had a few good restaurants that people would somehow find, well before Metroplex. I think better advertising that Cornell's was open for business at the new location might've helped.

You did all you could to get Suzie elected. You should tell the editors at the Gazetto to at least appear less bias, and print SOME stories that represent the ugly reality that is Schenectady. The "miracle mile" and those Gazetto puff pieces were even too unbelievable for the residents that live in the shithole called Schenectady
who's the wingnut now smokey??? At least GB is 'in reality'. You my cyber friend don't know what 'reality' is!! Looks like you've have been sippin' the Kool Aid after they handed you those rose colored glasses, eh?

It's water over the dam, but Cornells should have stayed on VanVranken. They were doing just fine there. They should have been smarter than to fall for the almost $500K taxpayer's money that the plex dangled in front of them.
We have been to Cornells several times when the original owners owned it. We will think twice before we go there again....if ever!

Cornell's was doing great on Van Vranken Ave. No debt, loyal customer base, closer to the Gazetto. Unfortunately they listened to Metrograft idiots who wanted to start a fake Little Italy. Sons moved from Liberty Street to the real Little Italy on Hamburg. Feel sorry for Joanne who is a great Schenectadian, wonderful person and should win a Patroon award instead of the usual DEM hacks.
Let this be a lesson to all would be potential start ups and real business people. When you see Metrograft/DSIC/Chamber idiots run in the opposite direction. As President Reagan said the 10 worst words in the English language; "I'm here from the government and I'm here to help". This is a great day for fiscal Conservatives in this County. Everything we predicted was right and everything they said was wrong. You should have seen the writing on the wall when SS Savage got whupped. Everyone is talking about what a joke Death Ray/Metrograft/DSIC/Chamber are and how we must end this failed experiment in socialism.
Today Talk 1300 was all about the plex/cornell! Every caller was appalled at the plex/gillen scam!!! And of course they brought up the Big House failure again too!!! Looks like Eastern Jewelers move out just in the nick of time, huh?

That's a positive development-no? They lost a fortune even with one part time employee and the tax giveaways. How many cuppies equal one Rolex? lol.
Downtown is in complete free fall. With Death Ray's constant lies there is not one retailer down there-national or otherwise. 6 more small businesses ready to fold. The entire scheme is failing apart and the City coffers are depleted because of Metrograft tax give aways by the non planners. The DSIC has a "meeting" and none of the businesses show because they are charged to see where their assessment money is going. Beyond pathetic-but so Schenectady County.
Clarification A note following a letter Monday by George Ryon, one of the new owners of Cornell’s Restaurant, identified John E.N. Hume III, editor and publisher of the Gazette, as a partner. His wife, Connie Hume, is also a partner.
And such a deal.......Does Humes get the interest free loan too? Or will he make sure that the taxpayers get a return on their investment? Well, at least Cornell's will get free advertising...
