SCHENECTADY DSIC notes successes as it marks its 10th year BY MICHAEL GOOT Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Michael Goot at 395-3105 or mgoot@dailygazette.net.
New building facades, new business, flowers and greenery downtown are just part of the legacy of the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation, which is turning 10 this year. Executive Director James Salengo listed a series of accomplishments for the guests Tuesday at the organization’s annual meeting and luncheon, held at Key Hall. DSIC has spent about $2.1 million on grants to upgrade properties and private owners have kicked in another $2.6 million for a total of $4.7 million worth of investment on more than a hundred projects. DSIC is funded through sales tax revenue and corporate sponsorships. ...............>>>>..............>>>>....................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01202&AppName=1
"DSIC is funded through sales tax revenue and corporate sponsorships."
What a nice success it would be if this sales tax revenue and the Metroplex sales tax funding went back to the taxpayers during this economic climate. Seeing planted flowers looks real nice but doesn't settle a hungry stomach right before bed . . . .
Another hilarious puff piece for a total failure. Tocker is fleeing the area and has his building up for sale. Half of the new facades are on empty/for sale buildings. Avon has is right. This type of garbage is not sustainable. The same people cheer leading are trying to bail. Both DSIC and Metrograft should be abolished with the sales tax going directly to the County fund to reduce sickening property taxes. 3X higher than Albany County-4X higher than Saratoga County.
DSIC is doing a grate job! Especially with their novel grate recycling program! First in the nation! DSIC "workers" stealing huge tree grates on the City dime and then recycling them in the City. These DEM morons can't oversee employees and can't even run Arts Night. Working together works-to keep this type of lob make work program ripping off taxpayers.
Oh, so there success means taking the taxpayers' money and planting flowers and such.
A city is attractive when it looks nice. But the taxpayers themselves, well they can't make their homes, their properties look nice with flowers and such.
And why not, you ask? Because the dems and their cronies rob from the homeowners and the homeowners have no money to put flowers in and other landscaping.
Hell, they can't even make their houses look nice, in many cases, good homeowners are cited for code violations, and probably rightfully so, I mean they have violations, but they don't have the money to fix their homes. Why not? Because the DEMS STEAL from the homeonwers by jacking up their property taxes to be almost the highest in the whole country.

SUCCESS????? Has anyone talked to the business folks......ALL the business folks??? Well, the ones that are left!

Oh, that summer night thing last week, we've never gone, but we have a good friend who has a hobby of photography, really wanted to take night photos. She went down there and, well, it was a hot day to begin with.
She said she felt like it was 100 or more. She said it was doubtful there was anywhere near the crowds then attended the old Tuesday in the Park. And said despite the many times more people in the park years ago, no matter how hot and humide the day was, it always felt comfortable.
She said downtown is all the buildlings and pavement and so is much to hot for crowds, it's the reason NYC feels or maybe actually gets so much hotter.
There is a reason one does not take their dog out for a walk on the hot days, any vet will tell you NEVER to take a dog for a walk, on sidewalks or pavement on a hot day, they can burn their paws, so naturally, the heat from the pavement makes it hotter.
And so she said that while Tuesday in the Park drew thousands, perhaps tens of thousands more people than downtown, she said it felt much hotter downtown and was very skanky, lots of stink, and people walking into you, etc. No soothing green grass to sit on, no big trees for shade, no soothing breeze, and the water, i.e the lake/pond at the park make everything feel cooler.
I'm really glad to have heard that, because I know I'll never go down there for something like that. But the dems felt they had to use tax money downtown, they ignore the rest of the city, they don't want people going to the park, they prefer people crowd into a much smaller area, virtually no place to sit down, etc

Our household is very active in the Schenectady Inner City Ministry Food Pantry. It would behoove all political leaders to perform some volunteer work there to get a little flavor of what reality really is. It brings tears to your eyes to see the poor come in for food and how grateful they are to get it. Like mikechristine1 says all the time, "How can you do this to these people?" I can assure you that it is an extremely humbling experience, and would benefit the Board of Metroplex, DSIC, and the other "tax break to the entitled" program directors to get a little taste of "real needs"!
Actually, just think of the "street people" that hang out downtown, the panhandlers, all that food teasing them, probably all overpriced, teasing them.
Also, some neighbors went and they said the fireworks sucked. Nothing like the grand shows they put on in the days of Tuesday in the Park. You'd think that the millioniares downtown could pool their riches together and put on a show bigger than Albany! NOPE

Downtown is too hot because every time the trees get a chance to mature to the point where actual shade is provided, someone comes up with a new "plan" which involves a lot of demolition and tearing up the streets. The new plan never actually accomplishes anything lasting for downtown. Upper Union is now hotter than hell and two more huge maples were removed near Garner, maybe to extend that paving project. How does Saratoga Springs manage to keep its mature shade trees downtown? Maybe someone in Schenectady should find out.
It's so darn hot because the DEM morons at DSIC didn't notice when dozens of City tree grates were stolen by DSIC employees. The trees were ripped up when they took the tree grates out of the ground. Besides when a festival is in the Park the DEM friends and family club can't sell overpriced beer and water.
As usual the Gazetto failed to report on the important news. Cost for attending the annual "meeting" $30 per person or tables of 8 for only $210! This is for businesses that pay thousands to these DSIC DEM idiots. Then they have to pay to hear some speaker tell them how they did it in Ft Worth. Every business owner is furious at these DSIC bozos. But the Gazetto talks to the one who is fleeing and very happy.
