I remember and had Mrs. Wiltsie and Mrs. Bowers. And yes her husband was the gym teacher. They also had a son Larry that I remember was in a wheel chair. I think he was in my grade. I think!! Does anyone remember?
Is that the same Mrs. Wiltsie who worked for the County Library -- there was a Mrs. Wiltsie who used to work at the Mont Pleasant branch of the library when it was in Pleasant Valley Elementary School.

My brother graduated in 61. I think he was the first graduating class from Mohonasen.
Hey, do you guys remember the Alma Mater(song)? I asked my grand kids if they still sing it and they looked at me like I had 2 heads.
My aunt was hired as a teacher when Schalmont opened in 1957 -- and I believe that one of her friends was the music teacher who helped write the Schalmont alma mater. The building has changed a lot since I was a wee tyke --- i wonder if they still have the built in cabinets along the walls in the classrooms and the display are next to each door -- my aunt loved putting up displays monthly during the school year.

I remember Larry before he was in a wheelchair. Kind of a sad story, because as I remember the reason he was brain damaged was he had taken a pretty bad beating by some older kids after school and was never the same after that. Once again, not totally sure on that but I think that's how it went down.
So are you still on west coast or moved back? What kind of gigs are you getting?
No, I only stayed there for about a year. Hitch hiked from SF back to Rotterdam in 3 1/2 days in time for my sisters wedding. Got a job a GE got married bought a house in Burtonsville, got divorced quit GE, started playing in the band, worked construction, moved to Hot 'Lanta for a couple years. Came back to Rotterdam and been here since. It's home.
When we started playing in '78 we did mostly bars, but quickly learned that there was better money to be made doing things like coffee houses, festivals and such. Over the years we played at Freedom Park, the Concert series they have in Central Park, Saratoga first night etc. We also found that nearly every town, village, city had concert series and we could book a full year doing stuff like that.

The guys I hung with had friends in both Mohon and Schalmont so we got along pretty well with everybody even though we were supposed to be rivals. I remember going into high school and feeling very intimidated by all those big kids.

Got a job a GE.....quit GE, started playing in the band,.........moved to Hot 'Lanta for a couple years. Came back to Rotterdam and been here since. It's home.
Ironic indeed... Hired by GE during 1st summer from college...left GE because I enlisted in Marine Corps. Discharged and went back to GE....hated it, so quit and did independant job shopping. Moved to SYR for full time job at Carrier....got job offer from CA, so left Syr and moved to SoCal.....company went belly-up, Carrier called and asked if I wanted to come back....took the job and moved to Athens, GA to help open new plant....there 10 years, then back to SYR. Come to Rotterdam several times a month...family still there and I too still consider it home, no matter where I lived or live.

Eeekkk!! Holy crap!! It's almost like some sort of weird paralell universe thing.
I started at GE in fall of '71, was there until fall of '78 when I basically just walked out one day and never went back. My friend Walt who in another ironic twist, ended up working with some of the same folks I did, said they still talk about it. "You're a legend down there Bill." "He just left and never said a word." The foreman was frantic, couldn't believe someone would do that.
While working in the bar shop in Bldg. 59 I was taught how to braze by a fellow who lived on Leo Ave. I think he may have either been a friend or a relative of your family. Had the same first name as you.
