SCHENECTADY
Morris, Proctors chief, named Patroon CEO led update of historic theater

BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter

Proctors CEO Philip Morris has joined the elite ranks of recipients of the city’s highest honor.
Acting Mayor Gary McCarthy named Morris a Patroon in a surprise announcement Wednesday afternoon during the start of a conference at Proctors of the League of Historic American Theatres.
McCarthy called Morris a key player and an innovative thinker in revitalizing Schenectady’s downtown. The award is McCarthy’s first as acting mayor. Former Mayor Brian Stratton awarded nearly a dozen during his tenure.
“Philip took Proctors from a local venue to a regionally recognized arts and entertainment mecca. He refl ects what we all have been striving for,” McCarthy said.
McCarthy said Morris has been a “dynamic force in converting Proctors into a nice venue. He understands the role arts can have in promoting and complementing economic development.”
Morris, 56, said he was stunned to receive the award. “How many Greeks get the patroon award?” he joked. ......................>>>>......................>>>>..................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00101&AppName=1

Some would cringe at the idea of "updating" a historic theater.
Wasn't it a nice venue before he got hold of it?

Another figurative boot in the a$$ of the taxpayers.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

It needed the bigger stage in order for Broadway productions to perform there ... It needed air conditioning .. and other upgrades.

Philip Morris has done an awesome job improving Proctor's and deserves the Patroon Award.

Then why doesn't he take the money that has come in via ticket sales and make these improvements?  Or use the major influx of money that he gets from selling things at the snack bar to fund this?  If this is such a moneymaker, then why does he need outside money to keep it running?  Because the entire thing just can't stand on it's own.  At least we know this time around that one person just ready to hand over the money to him at the county level will no longer be around.

Phillip Morris wasn't needed to make these upgrades. All it took was a chunk of taxpayer's money! The working class in schenectady should have gotten the Patroon award...cause without them Morris wouldn't even have a salary to support his home OUTSIDE of the city limits!!

Uh, DV, there was NO NEED WHATSOEVER to have Broadway productions there.   And for decades upoon decades performers and the audience existed with no air conditioning.

Morris and your dem buddies robbed the taxpayers blind, some of the very people who were FORCED to pay for this are now lowing their homes or doing without medical care because your buddies have caused the homewoners to pay among THE HIGHEST taxes in the whole country.

It is NOT fat burly Morris that should such an award.   It is each and every one of the homeowners who are struggling financially to keep their homes, pay for the damages caused by poor roads that have not been fixed because the money has been stolen and given to Proctors...it is the homeowners who pay the taxes who should be given such an award

The homeowners, the taxpayers who struggle and do without necessities who should get the award

Just remember DV, Morris got that 30 million from the taxpayers, and then he collects rent and then he has the catering hall place---the place for the high cost banquests for the uppity snobby well heeled dem connected friends and family club and then the NERVE of Morris to REFUSE to pay property taxes and then for all the tens of millions of dollars in handouts he gets, he doesn't even have the common decency to provide summer lunches for the poor children in the city.

And does a patroon bail out of the city, move as far away as he can get?   Tell us DV, WHY did Morris skip out of living in a high crime high tax city, huh???????

Fact is, Proctor's was up and running long before ol' Philip came to town. It's true. I remember a relative of mine being surprised to see Jack Nicholson in attendance when she went there to see The Chieftains. That was ages ago. Oh, there's a coffee shop now? Big deal. A catering hall? Unfair competition with Schenectady business. That IMAX thing? Ever go there? Me neither.

Nope...never went to an IMAX anything!
How bout the movie theater? The theater is like it's own little ghost town.
Like I said before....it is nothing more that a false sense of economic security. Just as the working taxpayers!

McCarthy was SOO excited to give this award as he thought he could secure at least one vote in the upcoming election. Then he found out Morris no longer lives in the City.

Pity.

Carried the load and paid our taxes and provided jobs to county residents, and then we have been treated with utter disrespect for it by our so-called "officials."
