I don't recall seeing anyone posting here who was against redevelopment of the ALCO site, or living in the past when Schenectady was a manufacturing giant, or anything like that at all. I think most of the participants in this forum are mainly concerned with two things: how best to arrest the city's downhill slide, and what to do to prevent the terrible wasting of OUR MONEY that has occurred due to negligence, corruption, or just plain incompetence. People have posted some interesting FACTS and shared their viewpoints and opinions. Calling someone names does not make the name-caller right. If you want to argue against someone's assertion, point out where you think they are in error, and why. Calling someone "negative" just means that you don't have a real argument.
You definitely have a point. I think most of us would be fine with projects where the business people/developers did EVERYTHING with their OWN MONEY and then paid taxes.
The city will NEVER improve as long as socialism in the city persists. Taxpayers CANNOT foot the bill anymore.
And don't hold your breath, DV will NEVER explain his comments. Over and over we ask him to answer how stealing frm the taxpayers has helpe the city, like what has it done for the taxes, the property values, infrastructure, crime rate, etc, and he always avoids answering those questions. Of course, he can't provide any facts
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Ignoring the whining of the little he-she pissant -- I choose to focus on being positive. The project slated for the old ALCO site will have a HUGE positive impact on the City of Schenectady --- it will lead to improvement along the Erie Blvd corridor ... and improvements in the surrounding neighborhoods (Stockade, College Park,North End)...
and I support continued use of Metroplex dollars to help finance future projects in the other neighborhoods of the city .. and in the towns. The use of these funds is an investment for the future ... that is much better than the Nattering Nayboobs approach of whining, complaining and sitting on their collective asses doing NOTHING to help their community move forward.

As a taxpaying NN, my money supports all these completely insane projects. PS, ALCO will not help the Stockade as it will take money (which could be used to help homeowners of the Stockade) and resources which are greatly needed in all the other City neighborhoods. The Stockade burned down once, now history is repeating itself and the place is falling apart block by block.
The City hired a $10k inspector to smooth over the process with ALCO. You really can't get more corrupt with taxpayer money than that.
It's wasteful spending because the core goal of Metroplex is to create jobs by bringing businesses back into Schenectady, where are the jobs? Their goal was also to create a larger tax base so that the taxpayer would have to pay less, did taxes drop? Your posts seem as if they're from a 12 year old or are you just an troll?

JUST BECAUSE SISSY SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO...BUT HE THINKS IT DOES!!!!! JUST BECAUSE MC1 SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO!!!!!
If the alco was such a money making 'hotspot'.....the private sector would have been banging the doors down and fighting and bidding over that property. If the private sector isn't showing an interest...without taxpayer money....then it is more than clear that there is NOT money to be made honestly and successfully. Capitalism is based on the ebb and flow of 'risk' based dictated by the economy. If the private sector isn't willing to take a 'risk' with their 'own' money, why in the hell would any tax paid government entity risk the taxpayer's money?
Again...........just a false sense of financial security. The metroplex is signing the working class up for a lifetime of high taxes to continue to support these baseless projects.
In over a decade the taxes have continued to rise. Most intelligent folks would call that a FAILURE!!

Exactly, Bumblethru. If this was such an opportunity for business, we wouldn't be involved. You notice the childish taunts (not intelligent comments) heat up when someone speaks the truth. Wasting property suitable for businesses that create real jobs when that kind of property is scarce is ridiculous. That is why we ridicule it. In fact, I recall the mayor turning away a guy who proposed a tire recycling business down there. He needed the space for a fancy-schmancyville that would require government aid, so he didn't tell anybody why he was turning down a real business. What makes our city officials think it is okay to decide not to do the jobs we elected them to do, let our city go to hell, and involve themselves as developers, which they aren't, in creating a replacement city? The Stockade IS going to hell block by block, let's let it go and build a new one just down the road. Too many people are dumb enough to see all this demolition and new construction as progress. I can understand some of the younger people buying the schtick, because they haven't seen it before. But we have seen it tried and fail, time and again. It is just a smokescreen for a money grab. Sorry, I am just not that gullible.
It's easy to support Metroplex when you don't live in the city and have to pay for all the wasteful projects that they have created.
mmm.. Apparently you are not fully educated on the subject that you are spouting off on --- a portion of our sales tax goes to Metroplex --- and one does NOT have to live in the city to pay that tax -- one only has to purchase something within the county.
Furthermore, I am not adverse to living within the city limits of Schenectady --- I have been in favor of consolidating local government and creating the City-County of Schenectady for at least 30 years.

No but the poor people who do live in Schenectady will be paying a lot more than just some sale tax revenue.
Since Metroplex funds come from that share of the sales tax designated to it, your argument that "poor people are spending a lot more than just some sales tax" is baseless. Metroplex does not have some extra tax on poor people.

The term poor people in Schdy is not related to poverty but to the people who have to work hard every day and have their money stolen from those who run the city in the form of the taxes they pay, garbage fees, water tax, property tax, school tax and who get next to nothing for the money they pay. Must you always suffer from diarrhea of the mouth and constipation of the brain.

Metroplex does not get money from the water tax, property tax, school tax or garbage fee ---- it gets its funds from a portion of the sales tax. So, the argument that the "poor people" (economically or otherwise) of the city are paying some extra tax to Metroplex is ABSOLUTELY BOGUS.
The only people who seem to be suffering from the maladies you speak of .. are yourself and your fellow Nattering Nayboobs of Negativity.
