SCHENECTADY Program looking to spread hope, stop violence BY GWEN GIRSDANSKY For The Daily Gazette
Treasure Clayton greeted each person who walked through the doors of the Refreshing Spring Church on Saturday with a hug or a handshake. About 50 members of the community, including U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko and Schenectady County Legislator Gary Hughes came together for a Project HOPE event, Community Against Violence, at the church that hosted gunshot victim Eddie Stanley’s funeral a few weeks ago. The 15-year-old basketball player for Schenectady High School was shot outside a party last month. Clayton began Project HOPE after four young girls who attended Schenectady High School committed suicide during the 2008-09 school year. The suicides of the friends were linked to harassment from gang members, according to parents and police investigations. The original driving force behind Project HOPE was the suicides and the goal of preventing more. When Clayton and others began looking at the reason behind the deaths, they decided to incorporate homicide and other types of violence, all of which was leading to depression among the city’s youth. Clayton wants to bring hope back into her community. “It’s about awareness. It’s about prevention,” Clayton said. What had started out as a very small organization has grown, and Clayton wants to continue that. Project means a team of people working on something, she said. “Project HOPE doesn’t stand alone.” That was also a point that Tonko, D-Amsterdam, wanted to emphasize, that cutting domestic violence programs in the federal budget would be foolish. “There is no greater commodity out there for our community than hope,” he said. “We are losing our children needlessly. And I think, I believe there is a way [to stop it].” ....................>>>>................>>>>...................................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01201&AppName=1
I am sure that will solve everything. Throw a few more trillion at things and say 5 Our Fathers.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

All these little incident oriented groups that spring up, give themselves cutsey names like this, or acronymns....how many more decades of taxpayer money is going to go to them with no positive outcome. The more these groups spring up, the more violence is the outcome. I'm not saying the outcome is attributed to these groups, but it's obvious throwing money at these doesn't help.
Get tougher on the kids, get rid of the socialist dem liberal politically correct education. Hold parents accountable. Child abuse is acted upon, child neglect is generally ignored. Are not parents being neglectful when they fail to attend teacher conferences, when they fail to see to it the kids' homework is done, when they fail to make sure junior is home by 9:00, etc,
It would also help if money be used to address the neighborhoods in the city instead of giving it to rich downtown businesses
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
