Today Rasmussen- it is 50-42%

People should always look at the website of the polling outfit. There you will find methadology for each poll. A few of the polls use "registered" voters, some use "adults" and one uses "likely" voters which are the voters which are most likely to vote, rather than those 2 larger groups. Now if you went down your street and talked to each adult neighbor (lets say you have 30 on your street, and they are all adults) then looked up which ones are registered to vote. Perhaps that number would be 22 of them. Then you would look at their voting history and you would find that a few of them had not voted in 6 or 8 years. So now you have 20. Now you would go see the 20 and ask them how likly they are to vote. About 15 of them would say definitely or pretty sure. Five of them would say things like "if I have time." or "If I am in town" or "If I can get a ride."

Those are your polling 'universes'... Which do you think is most reliable?

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows Mitt Romney earning 50% of the vote and President Obama attracting 42% support. Four percent (4%) would vote for a third party candidate, while another three percent (3%) are undecided.

So can we assume that those who are undecided and those who would vote for a third party candidate...
the 7% will be voting for Ron Paul???

I won't make a formal prediction on the final outcome -- except to say that it will be extremely close in the Electoral College and right now .. my instincts tell me (based on the current situation) that Romney will have the advantage there.

North Carolina a political headache for Democrats
May 12, 6:00 PM (ET)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Once a bright spot for President Barack Obama, North Carolina is now more like a political migraine less than four months before Democrats open the party's national convention in Charlotte.
The causes are plenty.
Labor unions, a core Democratic constituency, are up in arms. Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue isn't running for re-election; Democrats say she was likely to lose. The state Democratic Party is in disarray over an explosive sexual harassment scandal. Voters recently approved amending the state constitution to ban gay marriage, a position that runs counter to Obama's. And unemployment in the state remains persistently high.
"Nobody can sugarcoat the fact that we got problems here," said Gary Pearce, a former Democratic consultant who was an adviser to former Democratic Gov. Jim Hunt. Pearce was referring specifically to state party woes but could have been talking about any of the troubles here for Democrats.
But, he added: "I think the greatest strength that the party has is President Obama. And he's the thing that people will rally around."
It wasn't supposed to be like this - at least that was the hope - when Democrats chose Charlotte to host the national convention, where Obama will formally accept his party's presidential nomination for a second time, Sept. 4-6.....................................>>>>....................>>>>..........................http://apnews.myway.com/article/20120512/D9UNDR601.html

Obama On Gay Marriage: It 'Doesn't Weaken Families;' It 'Strengthens Families'
By JULIE PACE 05/14/12 09:17 PM ET

NEW YORK — President Barack Obama on Monday defended his view that gay couples should have the right to marry, saying that the country has never gone wrong when it "expanded rights and responsibilities to everybody."

"That doesn't weaken families. That strengthens families," he told gay and lesbian supporters and others at a fundraiser hosted by singer Ricky Martin and the LGBT Leadership Council. "It's the right thing to do."...........................>>>>.........................>>>>........................http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/14/obama-gay-marriage-strengthens-families_n_1516416.html

Obama worth as much as $10 million
By Richard Wolf, USA TODAY

CAPTION
By Haraz N. Ghanbari, AP
Three things are apparent from President Obama's annual financial disclosure statement, released today:

He is a wealthy man, with assets of as much as $10 million.

He has a hefty stake in JPMorgan Chase, the megabank that just made a bad $2 billion bet. Obama has an account worth between $500,000 and $1 million.

Despite the nation's $15.6 trillion debt, he is a believer in government paper. More than half of his assets are in Treasury bills and notes.

The disclosure statement lists assets and liabilities in dollar ranges, so pinpointing the president's net worth is difficult. His assets appear to tally between $2.6 million and $9.9 million. He holds a mortgage on his Chicago home of $500,000 to $1 million.

As was clear from Obama's income tax filing, much of his income continues to roll in from book royalties. The disclosure form lists $100,000 to $1 million in royalties from Dreams From My Father, $100,000 to $1 million from Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters, and $50,000 to $100,000 from The Audacity of Hope.

Vice President Biden, on the other hand, isn't all that wealthy. His financial disclosure statement includes less than $1 million in assets -- and as much as $1.5 million in liabilities, including between $500,000 and $1 million on his Wilmington home.

Poll Shows Obama Expanding Lead Nationally
A new Fox News poll finds Presdent Obama leading Mitt Romney by seven points nationally, 46% to 39%. Just
three weeks ago the candidates were tied at 46%.

The finding is the reverse of a New York Times/CBS News poll put out earlier this week which found Romney
moving into a lead.

Which means that polls are useless this far out.

I agree that polls this far out don't predict the eventual winner.  Polls at this time in the race, give an idea
of the view of the country at the time the poll was taken.  Those numbers change daily.

You'll have the convention pop for each candidate and since many people are on vacation during the next few months, results will be wacky. Once we get past labor day, the polls seem to get in line more and more.
Of course, then there is the electoral college issue. If Romney were to win, I easily see a scenario were he wins while losing the popular vote. If Obama wins, I think he'll take both.
