We need to revitalize Rotterdam... This town (used to be) anyway a "Nice place to live"... (and work)...But now it seems all the businesses are throwing in the towel and calling it a day.... The Grand union has been vacant for nearly 2 decades... The Curry Road Shopping plaza could be developed into something... and the hannaford plaza is seeing more and more empty store fronts by the day...
And by "New business" i dont mean ANOTHER Pizza place... I mean real business... Hamburg Street used to be great... That needs to be redeveloped and re-vitalized...
Lower the damn rent in the hannaford plaza so we actually have some retention.. and attract some bigger businesses there... |

It's going to be difficult to lower the rent in Hannaford Plaza if they can't get any lower taxes. I would guess this is included in the rent for each business. It's interesting to see the way that business is going in Rotterdam. The only things that are popping up everywhere are banks and pizza joints. |

WHAT JOBS/BUSINESSES?????? Now let's think a minute here........exactly what businesses did rotterdam previously have that it no longer has now? Curry rd shopping plaza was replaced with rotterdam square mall/Hannaford plaza.....yes? Capital plaza was replaced with a gin mill and a bank while the other businesses relocated within the town....yes? The old Grand Union went out because they could not complete with Price Chopper...neither would any other market....yes? The old Rolling Greens burned down......but there is still towne bowling....no real need for another......yes? Shoporama pizza closes, 4 corners pizza burns down, 4 corner pizza relocates to shoporama pizza location.....yes? CVS owns 4 corners vacant bldg.....last rumor was that CVS is in a pissing match over price of adjoining properties.....yes? CVS Hamburg Street closes.......business was slow so they opened up on Chrysler.....yes? Edgwood exits........pioneer bank enters..........yes? Rotterdam is a bedroom community with small retail businesses. And let me remind you that the entire town is nothing more than a 2 lane 'street'!! Small communities like rotterdam usually have businesses to 'support the needs' of it's residents...yes? But I will say there is one thing that is growing in rotterdam.....MULTI FAMILY HOUSING!!!! |

You left out 2 biggies-Golub HQ and VI Bakery. In both cases shanghaied by Metrograft bozos with our County tax dollars! When companies relocate the homeowner can pay more. Then you look at Rott/Hilltown County Legislatures every one a DEM that supports Metrograft. Every one of them will support increasing Metrograft bonding because no one pays them back. Until the voters wake up this town will continue to be cherry picked because no one from out of County/State will relocate Downtown. |

I noticed a company called PGM closed this week and put a For Sale sign up. They were some kind of glass company I believe, for commercial buildings. Located on Guilderland Ave., just across from the Miles Standish intersection. |

No reason to revitalize hamburg street...for what.....we should clean it up but we don't need to spend good money on sewers etc. What do you want there that would add value and see a return on the money spent. Who do you think would want to be there, for what.....is there something there that I am missing. |

Lack of infrastructure is a HUGE reason why Hamburg Street, Duanesburg Road, Burdeck Street, Rotterdam Junction are underdeveloped. We should have had a public sewer system 40 years ago in these places. Sewers are just the beginning -- while we are installing that infrastructure underground -- we should be putting in high tech 21st century infrastructure for our community to compete IN THIS CENTURY. For too long, Rotterdam has operated with a late 19th century (and that is being generous) way of thinking. The past is long behind us --- think and plan for the 21st Century and the future. |

Rochester is the murder capital of NYS. Schenectady is wonderful next to that hot mess. If you really want to start over, pay less for more-look South young man. |
