Acting Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy is resigning from the Metroplex Development Authority board of directors, relinquishing one of many civic responsibilities that have drawn fire from his mayoral opponent. His replacement will be Karen Zalewski-Wildzunas, a senior relationship manager with HSBC Bank and former president of the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation. McCarthy, a Democrat, is also president of the City Council and a de facto member of the city Industrial Development Agency. He is a running for mayor against Roger Hull, a former Union College president who is creating the Alliance Party but also has the Republican Party endorsement. McCarthy said he is stepping down from Metroplex after six years in order to focus on his duties as acting mayor and on his full-time job as an investigator for the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office. He became the unpaid acting mayor earlier this year when Brian Stratton resigned to become head of the state Canal Corp. Hull has called on McCarthy to give up either his seat on the City Council or the post of acting mayor, calling the combination an abuse of power. He also raised the issue of McCarthy’s serving on Metroplex as the City Council appointee, saying that a person should not serve if also a member of the appointing organization or organization that oversees it. “In my mind, no one person should wear as many hats as he wears,” Hull said of McCarthy. “My intention is to only wear the hat of the mayor.” ...................>>>>......................>>>>..................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00802&AppName=1
Mr. McCarthy has done a great job on the Metroplex Board ... his input will be missed. He will do a great job asmayor, too.

Mr. McCarthy has done a great job on the Metroplex Board ... his input will be missed. He will do a great job asmayor, too.
If so, then why do you avoid moving into the city?????
If you claim he's done great, why won't you provide examples. What has GM done for the property taxes????? What has he done for the property values of homes in the city? What has he done for crime? What has he done for the snow plowing? What has he done for the condition of roads in the city? What has he done to prevent peoples homes from being damaged by the poor roads? What has he done for the double taxation of trash collectdion?
DV, YOU claim he has done great. Tell us the results of his efforts. How many decent middle income people are buying homes in the city to actually live in????? Huh???????
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
It appears that mccarthy has resigned from the plex because he knows damn well that the plex is going to be a MAJOR issue this election year! However, it is a little too late for mccarthy since he has been a major part of the plex problem!!!

Don't worry - i will live in the City of Schenectady someday ... when all the municipalities are merged into a single City-County. Of course - if it takes more than 11 years to happen ... I will be enjoying my retirement on the beach somewhere far away from here.
