Bombers enters political fray
June 2, 2011 at 12:40 pm by Steve Barnes, senior writer

A prominent billboard urging a local politician to vote for same-sex marriage has a restaurant source: Bombers Burrito Bar. The billboard, on I-787 south between I-90 and the Clinton Avenue exit, is addressed to Republican Roy McDonald, who voted against gay marriage while in the Assembly and, in 2009, as a state senator representing parts of Rensselaer and Saratoga counties. As my colleague Jimmy Vielkind reported last week, McDonald, who has been mum on the issue lately, is one of a handful of senators of both parties whose votes are uncertain.

While no bill to legalize same-sex marriage in New York is pending in the senate, Gov. Cuomo and advocates hope to have it passed before the current legislative session ends June 20.

Bombers owner Matt Baumgartner tells me, “This is the biggest, most public political stance I’ve taken, but it’s such an important issue and it’s so timely.” Baumgartner owns Bombers in Albany and Schenectady, Wolff’s Biergarten in Albany and a forthcoming Albany pub called The Olde English. As it happens, the billboard is located roughly between Wolff’s and Quackenbush Square, where the pub is being developed.

Baumgartner also has property in McDonald’s district — a lakehouse in Rensselaer County — and is considering opening a franchise location of Bombers in Troy. He says that the message the billboard sends is more valuable than potential repercussions from such registering such a prominent opinion on a controversial subject.

“I certainly don’t want to lose customers because of it, but I’m willing to take that risk,” Baumgartner says. “The issue is too important.”

The $4,000 billboard will be up, coincidentally, until the session ends. Baumgartner tells me it happened to be available for a few weeks, from Wednesday until June 20, and he grabbed the opportunity..............................>>>>.........................................>>>>............................................http://blog.timesunion.com/tablehopping/23140/bombers-enters-political-fray/

Baumgartner doesn't pay property taxes in Schenectady so he can afford to pay to push his political agenda statewide.  Another beautiful example of a business spending money to promote the Democrat agenda in the fascist state. Be nice to the party in control(Democrat), or they will not give you the publics money that makes you rich.

The Koch brothers are spending hundreds of millions of dollars to promote their Conservative agenda to buy legislation that will make them billion$
and Cicero is worried about a local businessman spending $4000 that he feels will benefit society, not himself.

Nice try???
What "Try"?

I didn't comment on the legislation at all... only on Bombers owner donating to what he feels is a good cause (as far as I know) he will gain nothing financially from his position, and may even lose business.

He took a moral stand that he believes in with out a financial benefit for himself.

Show me tax exemptions that a Koch brothers business gets and I'll agree.  And I wouldn't be surprised that they did get tax breaks under Republican majorities.  I'm not saying this is party specific around the country, but in this case, it is party specific in New York.  On the national level, all you have to look at are GM and GE. Obama tells them what products to begin researching and producing, and wallah - billions of dollars in bailouts for GM and GE received $24.9 million in stimulus grants after showing $156 million in profits and paid ZERO in income taxes.  Not to mention GE CEO Immelts appointment to the Obama 'Council on Jobs and Competitiveness'.  AMAZING!!!  But NOOO,,,the government doesn't coerce business like a fascist government, it's a "representative democracy" dictating to Chevy to manufacture the Volt, or telling GE to begin R&D on high speed rail, solar and wind power.

Bottom line boxy, is that this guy is TAX EXEMPT in schenectady county! The taxpayers of schenectady county are carrying his load!!

Isn't it nice that he has $4 Grand to spend on a bill board for political purposes while he is enjoying a tax free status at the Schenectady taxpayer's expense!!

And with all of the issues facing nys and the country, he choses 'gay marriage'???? What about tax reform? What about welfare fraud?  Noooooooooooooo!!! He choses 'gay marriage'!

Who cares?

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
