If the Parker Inn story had never gone public, Gillen still have given the Myers Plex money without question.

Now that the hammer has fallen, and people have taken off their blinders, it's pretty clear to see that the Plex only does the fiscally right move only when people are looking.

Great story in the TU. Another example of DEM/Metrograft planning. That entire corner was cleared for the "condos" which everyone knew would never be built. No one wants a condo in Miracle City. Between the taxation and the pathetic schools it's a sellers market. Buyers are as scarce as tax reductions.

      Let's see if the DEM morons on City Council keep pushing the condo "plan" for ALCO tonight. The City needs industrialization/jobs not more surplus housing. In most cities a fiscal disaster like Union Square would give pause.

Gillen said the developer interested in the Union Street project is experienced with residential development but wouldn't reveal the identity until the sale is finalized.

Originally, the Lofts at Union Square called for building 16 luxury condos, as well as 4,000-square-feet on the first-floor for retail. The condos in the proposal have been changed to apartments, as few banks today are willing to finance condominium construction, Gillen said. There is currently a vacant building where construction would commence.

The city is also trying to get more apartments built on Barrett Street at Seminary Place through another developer, Anthony D'Adamo of Capital Architecture. The city still has to obtain some land through eminent domain from a deceased property owner. Also, Acting Mayor Gary McCarthy said the developer has yet to obtain financing.

3,500 jobs were created {mostly public} while 12,000 jobs fled this County. Schenectady taxes are highest in the region again-according to the CD Regional Planning Commission. Schenectady County again has the highest unemployment rate.

While Metroplex was to help the tax base which would in turn lower taxes on homeowners, if you asked DV if that has come to fruition, juist a "yes" or "no" one word answer, he still would not provide a response.
