Schenectady is the only City in the STATE to ignore a State law requiring them to plan for future retirement costs. City property taxes have gone up over 75% in 10 years. The City spent over $6 million on pension costs in 2010 but totally failed to plan for the early requirement incentives for 75 employees. Future pension costs to the taxpayers will explode.

This a blatant violation of State law. The City working together DEMS ignore the long term impacts on the oppressed City taxpayer. Excessive hiring=excessive pension costs. No wonder Stratton, Allen and Della Sala all either fled or announced they will not seek re-election.

Never say things can't get worse. The next State pension bill should be a record. No wonder Stratton hastily fled. All the chickens are coming home to roost. 35 years of DEM spending schemes and hiring Cousin Vinnie. They just ignore State law and go merrily along. It is good-when it sucks.

Only in Schenectady County! Too small for a County-Too big for an insane asylum!

Why are we not surprised.

THey don't plan ahead.  They just spend the taxpayers dollars like it grows on trees, and then just hike takes.   And that is what DV says it a renaissance

And yet they fail to realize that while they are lining the pockets of the friends and family club, just to garner votes.......the taxpayers are just walking away because they can no longer afford the bill!!

Here's the real tragedy-Schenectady is number one in taxes {by a huge margin} BEFORE the larger pension bill from the State comes due. And the Gazetto unbelievably calls for a tax increase to fix the horrid City roads. They really believe it would go to that?-lol-

It won't be long til Schenectady city will be the highest taxed city in the country.     People talk about downstate taxes being higher than here, but the cost of living is higher down there, yet people aren't fleeing.

Schenectady will be tops in the whole country before too long

And of course, DV is much to embarrassed to admit how his dem buddies are screwing the city taxpayers.   Not to mention how his dem buddies allow the political patronage jobs, the employees in them, to avoid living in the city of high taxes and high crime.

Didn't you know, the city is having a renaissance!

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

It's already 12th highest in the NATION. The Gazetto incredibly wants to increase taxes to fix the third world streets. Instead of cutting nonprofit handouts and millionaire developer exemptions? There is nowhere but up. Wait until the new pension bill comes due.

And of course, DV much to embarrassed to admit how these dems have done YET ANOTHER action that will result in more theft from the taxpayers.

Hurry DV, you say the city is in a renaissance, you better hurry and buy a house now before the property values increase as a result of this renaissance you claim is happening.  Care to tell us what all the out of control dems spending has done to the city?  IF you sayt it's imporved, plesase state HOW (HOW are the taxes, HOW is the crime, HOW are the vlaues, HOW are the city services, etc)

Where is the AG on this matter? Where is the State Comptroller? This goes beyond the usual DEM fiscal incompetence. They knew the law and purposely avoiding doing what every other municipality in the State must do. Nobody cares about the resident cheer leaders or the daily Gazetto editorial bored defenses. Another new low. Another only in Schenectady.
