and yet, the renaissance continues

What renaissance?     Define renaissance

Homeonwers fleeing the city in record number
Highest taxes around and going higher
Home values plummeting
Crime way up
People unable to sell their homes
Reord high numbers of vacant and abandoned properties
Institution of new fees to supplment what is paid in taxes
Loss of city services
Road conditions critical
No snow emergencies

So, please, SB, explain hose the above is reflective of a renassaince

but, of course, you forgot to mention the renaissance and how good it is here. Things are better today than they were under mayor al and his mis-cronies. Life is good. You guys just missed the bus.

The DEM renaissance bus just got overturned in one of McCarthy's pot holes. Ten years ago there was actual retail Downtown, this County did not lead the area in unemployment and there was a two party system. But hey Stratton and SS Savage both got lob jobs.

Please explain HOW is it better today than under Mayor Al.

Under Al, taxes were lower, so you are stating it's better that taxes are higher?   It's better that the taxes are the the highest of any city locally and among the higherst in the whole U.S.?

Under Al, crime was lower.   So, you are saying it's better now that the crime rate is up substantially?

Under Al, there was that HUGE drug raid thought the city which took well off 100 dealers off the streets and the crime rate dropped substantially.  Today, there has not been one, not even one raid of that magnitude in the city, none under the current administration

Both under Al and under BS there have been cops in big trouble.  But many of the problems trying to eliminate them is out of the hands of a mayor and/or council, because the unions always seem to win.  We'll see how this latest one goes.

Things are better?   Al declared snow emergencies so streets were passable.   Even with storms well over a foot, BS never once declared an emergency, so snow is left in the road making many streets nearly impassable, but I guess you claim impassable streets today are better than the clean streets of the past.

I guess you believe it's better that financially struggling homeowners pay twice for trash pickup, right?

Can you explain how it's better that financially struggling people risk losing their homes because they are forced to pay the taxes of the millioniares and billionaires.

Can you explain how it is better that the infrastructure has been ignored under this administration, to the point that the roads are so bad that peoples homes are damaged from vehicles treaveling through.

Please explain how people suffering damage to their cars due to the deplorable condition of the streets means the city is better than under previous admin.

Please explain how having record high numbers of  vacant and/or abandoned housses today (compared to under Al) means the city is doing so much better.

See, don't just say it's better, please explain how it's better.  Tell us how taxes are better, tell us how safe the cty is, tell us about the housing values, etc.

Waiting for explanation (and please, when you make a statement please provide proof)

smokey, I have to assume that you are a 'young adult'. And if that is true, which I assume it is, I'm not surprised at your views of the city.

However, what you are experiencing is not a renaissance. It is a lie!! It is a created false sense of an economic security. And it was created at the taxpayers expense. REALLY!!! You probably don't really care where the money came from and how the residence and some businesses have suffered financially to make downtown look like it does. But I promise you that someday you will.

There are less productive residents living in the city today than there was when 'al' was in office. There are more folks on government handouts then there was when 'al' was in office. There is more crime than when 'al' was in office. The price to live in the city is MUCH higher than when 'al' was in office. The infrastructure is in worse shape then when 'al' was in office. There are hundreds more city employees since 'al' was in office. There are more vacant homes then when 'al' was in office.  Let me be clear, I'm not saying that 'al' was a better mayor. I'm using it as a time frame ONLY!!

Businesses are being relocated from one end of the county to the other AND are given tax exempt status AT THE TAXPAYER'S EXPENSE. If you REALLY gave it some thought, you would come to realize this as a disgusting shame.

So the next time you raise your glass at one of the many gin mills downtown........thank a hard working, over taxed city taxpayer!.....k?

Young adult-lol. Guess BT is talking about mental years? Ten years ago City taxes were 80% less, crime was lower, there were businesses Downtown that weren't DEM friends and family tax dodgers, schools were better, roads were better, REPS controlled the County and GE had more employees.

I see a trend with our left leaning message board participants.  Anytime they are shown point blank what a failure Democrat leadership produces, they point to when it was under Republican leadership and say how that was worse.  Box and boomer do it with their Bush Derangement Syndrome anytime a person is critical of Obama, now 'Nana' is saying the failure of the city today is better than the failed city under Al. J.  Does anybody realize that America has a $14 TRILLION deficit run up by BOTH parties?  Does anybody realize that New York State is $120 BILLION in debt under the leadership and collective policies of Pataki, Bruno, Silver, Spitzer?  Now we're debating who did a better job running the biggest shithole, crime ridden city in upstate New York into the ground?  I don't know anybody running under the Alliance Party, but I HOPE they can add something new to the public debate.  The Republican vs. Democrat debate the public has been lulled into has done nothing more than create a political class that is sucking life blood from the productive residents of Schenectady and New York State.

Nooooo smokey.........I'm not looking for a GOP miracle.......I'm looking to the independent candidates to bring schenectady county to present day REALITY!!!

Schenectady is a very very poor city smokey. Most are on public assistance. It's the hard working few that are holding up this economic lie.....and they can't do it anymore. And there are only 'some' that really have a need for public assistance.

Do you have any idea of how many 'scum' there are receiving schenectady welfare benefits, that live in NYC? It's a family affair. They use a schenectady family member's address and truck upstate once a month to pick up their welfare check, while selling their 'stash' on the way here.

EVERYBODY knows it..........and our elected officials do NOTHING!! Why? Because it's easier to win an election when you are the cash cow doling out taxpayer's money. Come on smokey.....are you that blind to the truth?

perhaps if u had any sense you would realize the 50 percent that means half, of your tax bill is for school taxes, and no,,, no ,most people are not on welfare... wrong, wrong, wrong.... "scum" as u put it, are real people who have families they are trying to feed, who can;t find real jobs that pay a living wage.////

please, when u use words like scum, you demonstrate why your are not credible and your arguments read more like KKK pamphlets than a logical argument....

there will be no GOP miracle now, tomorrow or forever thereafter

How do you draw a link between the word "scum" and "KKK"?  Seems like your racial bias is peeking through.  You decided to make that connection, not anybody else.

-lol!

Obviously you don't own any property in the City. Every City business owner/resident knows that 50% of their votes does not go to school taxes. City taxes are 70% of the total tax bill.

This a common mistake of Saratoga County posters. The renaissance bus has just broke an axle on one of McCarthy's craters. Stop waiting for it in the rain without your aluminum foil hat.
