Schenectady unable so far to sell ex-mayor's sport utility vehicle Thursday, May 19, 2011 By Kathleen Moore (Contact) Gazette Reporter
SCHENECTADY — A low-key advertisement in local newspapers and on the city website convinced exactly zero people to buy former Mayor Brian U. Stratton’s Jeep. Now the city will try an online auction, which is what Acting Mayor Gary McCarthy wanted to do in the first place. “It’s something the staff has not embraced,” he said. “I’m not quite happy with the way the process has gone. Sometimes bringing change is a little slower than you’d like.” The city’s Finance Department wanted prospective buyers to submit written bids, while Corporation Counsel L. John Van Norden cautioned an online auction site could cost the city too much money. “EBay was not the preferred way,” Van Norden said, citing the possibility that someone could bid $1 and win the auction..............................>>>>.......................>>>>......................http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2011/may/19/0519jeep/
Another only in Schenectady. They can't even sell a JEEP? Try lowering the price like every property owner has had to do because your great "leadership".
Sell tickets for $1 and let every ticket holder take a swing at the Jeep with a sledge hammer.
For immediate sale! One owner JEEP used to attend City Council meetings and church. 4 wheel drive perfect for the City moonscape. Back seat unused. No reasonable offer refused {including $1}. Highly motivated broke seller. Call Schenectady City Hall. Working together works!
Perhaps the plex/Gillen can buy it for $10,000 (taxpayer's money) and sell it to one of the chosen few in the friends and family club for $1!!! And give the buyer free insurance and registration.
NOW THAT'S HOW IT'S DONE IN SCHENECTADY!!!
When the INSANE are running the ASYLUM In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule. -- Friedrich Nietzsche
“How fortunate for those in power that people never think.” Adolph Hitler
How can the Jeep potentially sell for only a dollar on Ebay? That's ridiculous. Set a minimum bid dummy. And just unload the thing. If they are only advertising in the Gazetto, no wonder there is no interest. So we continue to pay insurance on this vehicle?
CRAIGSLIST, DUH! If the price is right, I'll bet it'd sell in a week.
Former Schenectady mayor's Jeep sold on Internet By LAUREN STANFORTH Staff writer Published 04:35 p.m., Monday, June 6, 2011
SCHENECTADY -- Former Mayor Brian Stratton's Jeep Grand Cherokee will be driven off by a person who made a winning online bid of $7,701 on Friday.
Acting Mayor Gary McCarthy, who is running for mayor this November, made the sale of Stratton's former city vehicle an issue when McCarthy took over the reins of government on April 4, putting the Jeep outside City Hall with a "For Sale" sign on it. The Democratic McCarthy, who is City Council president, also posted an ad about the car on the city's website and in the Daily Gazette. But when there were no bites, the city put it on auctionsinternational.com, a site that handles surplus municipal vehicles.
The best part, I thought, of this entire story is when the Times Union not only gets the scoop, but INCLUDES THE NAME OF THEIR COMPETITION when referring to ways that they TRIED to sell the Jeep and couldn't.
Bet that part won't be in the Gazette article... if there is one.
