Then the Lord said to Cicero, “Where is Abel your brother?”
He said, “I do not know and I dont care. Am I my brother’s keeper? "

Then the Lord said to Sombody, "Where is Abel your brother?"
He said, "Go check the Social Services building on Broadway, I pay taxes, for it is now the governments job to take care of him".

It was, but liberal revisionists will deny it.

I don't want public largess, so I guess I'm consistent with that one.

IMO, every one of us could be on welfare if our lives had turned out different.  A disease, a car wreck, a birth defect, a bar fight, exposure to toxins...
But for the grace of God, we all could have had no more than a turn of bad luck and ended up on welfare.
Most of the people on welfare in NY are kids.  Many on welfare don't deserve to be there, AND THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED, but most are there and should be helped.

~ Victorian England where kids were sold to a 'workhouse' instead of sent to school... A libertarian value???
~ Indentured Servants, if you don't have the money, you sell yourself into slavery to pay your debts... A sign of Libertarian Progress?
~ Child labor sweat shops... NO Laws or regulations interfering with my Libertarian business!

The views on this board are of a Utopian Libertarian World... with no problems and if you work hard, you succeed and prosper... Yea right!

You must admit, that you worked inside the system... you didn't create the system, some one else did.  Your bank where you keep YOUR money... is safe because of others... YOUR money is safe there because of the police paid for by OTHERS... NOT YOU.  "No man is an island" and especially in this context... you worked in a system paid for by others to earn YOUR MONEY.

You got it for FREE.  IMO, you owe the future for what the past provided for you.

Our parents and grandparents all paid taxes there whole lifes. My grandfather who came here from Poland when he was very young got a job at GE, bought a house and paid property and school taxes until he was in his 90's. Our neighbor a very sweet woman when we lived on Hullett St. paid school taxes until she died at age 90 and she never had any children. She had to pay the taxes and couldn't afford good food.

We get nothing for free. There are fees added on to our utility bills that were to be abolished many many years ago and never were.

WE pay for police protection, WE pay our bank fees, WE pay our property taxes and school taxes and gas tax and utility tax and income tax and state tax and sales tax and thruway tolls, we pay for downtown who does NOT benefit most of us in any way, we pay for the crappy roads that are ruining our cars, we are paying for the high cost of gas , the high cost of food. My homeowners insurance went up  a good chunk and I asked my agent why and he said "due to a storm that hit Long Island some years back"

Now as for what we "Owe" the future. To raise our children to become moral self reliant caring members of society.

We should not be forced to help those in need but give to help others because we care, we should give from the heart.

I hate that my tax money is going to my drug addicted cousin who is selling some of his prescription drugs on the street, who is on welfare and SSI, who gets thrown out of apartments due to fights with his partner only to have welfare move him again and again. And that he has no concerns about food or heat because its all just handed to him.

BUT I do care for those who REALLY need temporary help, especially the children. The problem is not us, its the welfare system in general. Too much fraud and abuse.

I am on a very limited income, but if someone really needs something to eat, I will feed them. I do have a big heart. And I do donate to a few charities when I am able that I know the money is really used for the people not the administration.

How do you claim these are libertarian values?  You are out of your mind.  You come up with some wacky examples to prove a point.  Selling kids as property to another person would be an infringement on a child's civil liberties.  You blur parental rights with forced child labor.  I guess if my son throws a ball through my neighbors window and then I force him to mow my neighbors lawn until the cost to replace the window is paid off, it would be selling my child to a workhouse, or make him an indentured servant NOT teaching the value of a dollar and that nothing is for free.  Or if I own a business and work my son 10 hours a day in order to help feed my family, that's indentured servitude. Instead, my child should be in school on borrowed money while public educators turn my child's head to mush, and helping put my family in debt and in turn the nation in debt.

I think Box you are missing the reality of 2011...The policies of Keynesian economics over the past 100 years and more pointedly the last 40 have bankrupted the nation.  The ride is over...THERE IS NO MONEY - THERE NEVER WAS.  Children sponging off of their parents, being non productive until they are 30 while they "find themselves" are over.  We can no longer borrow from the Chinese to finance the utopian lifestyles progressives like Woodrow Wilson, FDR promised, and now BHO promises.  Debt based economy has failed.  It is over!!!  Both parties practice Keynesian economics, this isn't party specific, conservative or liberal, left or right, it's an American problem.  Families WILL be making their children work just to survive.  Buying a house will no longer be an investment, but rather a place to live.  No more 10% down and cheap money. Not every Tom, Dick, and Harry on the socioeconomic scale with a 2.0 GPA will be eligible for student loan so they can get drunk and laid for 4 years, just to come home and to get a job scrubbing the floors in the local factory.

The reality will sink in soon Box, you may wanna have doc double your prescription when you start feeling it creep in.

What is a Libertarian???

~ A Libertarian is a Republican who smokes pot.

~ How many libertarians does it take to change a light bulb?
None. If the light bulb needs to be changed, the market will take care of it.

~ A libertarian is just a conservative that has discovered the pleasures of smoking pot.

Good one Box!!

How many democrats does it take to change a light bulb?  4!
Al Gore to insure it’s a CFL,
an EPA agent in case the blub breaks and a mercury cleanup is necessary,
an ACORN member to insure that the right person changed the bulb,
a member of the media to celebrate the change.

How can you tell a libertarian home owner apart from a liberal home owner? Ask who is paying the Mortgage. The libertarian will point to himself, and the liberal will also point at the libertarian.

Oh boy, yes most libertarians view the war on drugs as a scam. Reason being who are you or the government to tell me what I can do or put into my own body. Your body is your own property, you have the right to neglect it if you wish but the consequences of your behavior falls on you and you only. If you smoke 2 packs a day and drink every day don't complain or expect me to pay your medical bills when you get sick. Personal responsibility Box

Cicero is so jealous...
The successful  Democrat president Obama is going to get re-elected..
The talk on this board is all  about TeaParties or Ron Paul...
and Cicero's stuck being the party of George Worst Bush.  (How embarrassing)

"If only I pulled that lever for Obama"... but I voted for G Worst B."

Box is stuck in some fairytale land believing Obama is different than Bush.

Bush tax cuts extended - CHECK
Troops stationed in Iraq - CHECK
Gitmo open for business - CHECK
Patriot Act extended - CHECK
Wireless wiretapping - CHECK

Bombing Libya with cruise missiles...Hmmm...You're right, Obama has delivered change, we've extended our preemptive war policy to include Libya.  CHECK CHECK

So when we are discussing this great Libertarian Uprising... How many people are we discussing??? 50?  A hundred?  A few thousand???

Ron Paul got 36,000 votes total in 2008.  About the same as Obama or McCain received in some smaller towns.

If you are advancing a "political ideal" that's always acceptable and often commendable.  If you are actually discussing an election where a libertarian president wins... It's a fantasy.
