Tonko pushes trucker safety bill
Measure named for local man killed while stopped to rest
BY DAVID LOMBARDO Gazette Reporter

U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko, D-Amsterdam, on Wednesday joined with the widow of a slain Schoharie County trucker to announce the introduction of legislation known as “Jason’s Law.”
The bill, which Tonko is cosponsoring with a Minnesota Republican, would create a grant program to pay for new rest areas for truckers so they can safely take breaks from driving.
The presence of trucker Jason Rivenburg’s widow, Hope, was designed to highlight the need for the measure. Jason Rivenburg, 35, was killed in March 2009 during a robbery at an abandoned gas station in South Carolina where he was resting.
“We cannot allow Jason’s murder to go unanswered,” Tonko said in a statement. “We cannot continue to ask our long-haul truckers to get the proper amount of rest during their workday under the guise of safety without providing them a safe, accessible place to pull off the road.” ............................>>>>......................>>>>.....................................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01101&AppName=1

As I stated on his Facebook page (that he'll never look at), this is not something that he should be doing at the federal level, and this should be left for the states to do.  If he thinks this is such an important issue, maybe he should run back to the Assembly.

As always Taxin Tonko's solution is more spending and taxes. Not sure how this would stop armed robberies. Thank God he is now in the minority.

Throw some money at the problem of crime. After all it is for the kids. I mean, uh, truckers.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
