GLENVILLE
Police earned town’s top salaries in 2010

Glenville police officers were nine of the 10 most-compensated town employees last year.
The highest-earning officer was Lt. Rick Conley, who earned $101,030, including $85,102 in salary, $11,598 in comp time cash-in, a $3,850 longevity payment and $480 in overtime.
Chief Michael Ranalli was second in compensation at $96,495. He does not earn overtime or other compensation.
Overtime boosted the pay for the town’s three detectives, who occupied the third, fourth and 10th spots on the list. All had base salaries of $69,976.
Detective William Gallop boosted his salary with $13,713 in overtime and the rest being longevity pay, out-of-grade pay, comp time cash-in and vacation. Detective Michael Lamb added $11,800 in overtime and had other payments for total compensation of $90,004. Detective William Marchewka’s total compensation was $83,572 including $8,000 in overtime.
Police Chief Michael Ranalli said overtime is unavoidable when running a police department.
“This is a 24-7 operation. It’s not 9 to 5, Monday through Friday when you can actually control these things. We have to maintain a minimum amount of staffing at all times and it costs money to do this. When things get busy, we have to bring additional people in.”
On every shift, Ranalli said there is a primary on-call detective and secondary on-call detective. The primary detective usually handles about 70 to 80 percent of the calls. If a detective has a serious case such as a sexual assault, he may come in on a day he is scheduled to be off.
“We can’t say to the sex-offense victim we can’t do your case,” he said.
Occupying the fifth through eighth spots on the list were Lt. Stephen Janik at $89,326; Sgt. Brendan Gillooley, with $86,305 in compensation; Officer Timothy Mell with $85,274; and Sgt. Scot Straight with $84,601.
The ninth spot went to Public Works Commissioner Tom Coppola, which is an elected position. Coppola received $83,952 in compensation. .........................>>>>............................>>>>.................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01401&AppName=1
