Feds sting Amish farmer selling raw milk locally
Cite interstate commerce violation

A yearlong sting operation, including aliases, a 5 a.m. surprise inspection and surreptitious purchases from an Amish farm in Pennsylvania, culminated in the federal government announcing this week that it has gone to court to stop Rainbow Acres Farm from selling its contraband to willing customers in the Washington area.

The product in question: unpasteurized milk.

It's a battle that's been going on behind the scenes for years, with natural foods advocates arguing that raw milk, as it's also known, is healthier than the pasteurized product, while the Food and Drug Administration says raw milk can carry harmful bacteria such as salmonella, E. coli and listeria.

"It is the FDA's position that raw milk should never be consumed," said Tamara N. Ward, spokeswoman for the FDA, whose investigators have been looking into Rainbow Acres for months, and who finally last week filed a 10-page complaint in federal court in Pennsylvania seeking an order to stop the farm from shipping across state lines any more raw milk or dairy products made from it.

The farm's owner, Dan Allgyer, didn't respond to a message seeking comment, but his customers in the District of Columbia and Maryland were furious at what they said was government overreach.

"I look at this as the FDA is in cahoots with the large milk producers," said Karin Edgett, a D.C. resident who buys directly from Rainbow Acres. "I don't want the FDA and my tax dollars to go to shut down a farm that hasn't had any complaints against it. They're producing good food, and the consumers are extremely happy with it."

The FDA's actions stand in contrast to other areas where the Obama administration has said it will take a hands-off approach to violations of the law, including the use of medical marijuana in states that have approved it, and illegal-immigrant students and youths, whom the administration said recently will not be targets of their enforcement efforts.

Raw-milk devotees say pasteurization, the process of heating food to kill harmful organisms, eliminates good bacteria as well, and changes the taste and health benefits of the milk. Many raw-milk drinkers say they feel much healthier after changing over to it, and insist they should have the freedom of choice regarding their food........................>>>>.....................>>>>.....................http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/apr/28/feds-sting-amish-farmer-selling-raw-milk-locally/

what a LIE!!!! If a farmer runs a small farm without pumping up and processing their cows the chances of getting sick are less than the 'machine farms' controled by trade

dont let them 'fear' us to death......do you ever wonder how the earth was populated?

ever notice all the sickness is from government subsidised farms/plants......more volume/higher rate/poor conditions......GET OFF MY BACK

barter barter barter barter barter..........

The FBI needs direction as to what constitutes a threat to other Americans and what doesn't. Concentrate on those areas and leave off the areas
where people are using their own judgement regarding their individual well being. Supposedly they didn't have enough resources to monitor the 911
terrorists, maybe this is why they are spread too thin. Too bad there doesn't seem to be anyone very intelligent at the helm.

The FDA should not step into this, unless there is a public safety issue.

Since this was trade across state lines, I really do think that this would apply, under the second point in Article 1, Section 8 of the constitution, but this is still a place where Big Brother shouldn't come in.  Let the free market work.

My Mom told me when she was a kid milk was delivered from the farm to their house on Hulett St and the kids would skim the top because it tasted like cream.

My grandfather hated vegetables, ate lots of fatty foods, salted almost everything he ate, started smoking at 16 when he was in the war, drank tons of coffee  and lived to 99 yrs old. Not saying he ate healthy but.......

There is so much crap injected into cows from antiobiotics and hormones.

If someone wants to buy pure milk thats THEIR choice. Not hurting anyone else they should leave the farmer alone.

Especially Amish farmers who are known as great sustainable farmers. They don't use chemicals on everything and use horse drawn plows. Many have moved to western Montgomery County where they have revived family farms.

I grew up on a farm and we had raw milk.  Made our own cheese and butter.  There was nothing wrong with it.  I feel that they should be allowed to sell their milk if the customer wants to buy it.

When I make cheese now, I have to ADD chemicals to it to get rid of the chemicals the processors added to it.  Id rather have raw milk to make cheese.  Plus it tastes better.

they dont want you to feel healthy on the earth that has been here for billions of years getting populated over and over and over.....ain't civilisation great...especially
when we put the 'experts' in charge......yeah, in charge of EVERYTHING via FEAR......feel safe yet? the controls needed are for the government subsidised farms/plants
to be able to have volume to sanction others with, either with $$ or actual product.....how about that 'free' catscan at the airport? feel safe now? We dont have to worry
the data collected in the next 10 years will create another market of drugs/treatments and specialists.....all via FEAR.

Democraps think it good to destroy hard working Amish farmers by using the intrusive power of big government to crush and obliterate small independent Americans. Of course they construe any law to their will to flex their behemoth muscles to step on freedom and to violently strip rights and bankrupt individuals. This is the way of the democrap and his wish and true desire for an omnipotent state over all and above all individual Americans. They should be tried and hung when the time comes. Those who transgress against American liberties since they are true traitors and criminals. It is time to tip the bureaucrat's cart upside down and sink the political class to the bottom of the sea. No more Kings, Dukes, Barons or Earls.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Oh how wickedly "radical" the notion of freedom is to most of the serfs.
