Cuomo coming to Schenectady for keynote address SCHENECTADY — Gov. Andrew Cuomo is coming to Schenectady on Friday. Cuomo will give the keynote address at the New York State Democratic Rural Conference, which will be held on Friday and Saturday at Proctors downtown. The governor is scheduled to speak at the opening reception in the Wright Family Atrium from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to a program on the Democratic Rural Conference website. Expected to attend are Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy, Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko, D-Amsterdam.
Any reason they chose Good Friday, at a time of day when most people would be in church, to do this?

I don't know about "most",. I think "a few" would much more accurate, as it's not a holiday, or holy day of obligation, and besides, church doesn't take all day.
Honestly, are you yourself planning on going to church on Friday? I went to a catholic school with a church attached, and we didn't always go.

According to the TU it's next Friday. Hopefully, DEM organizer, former legislator Donald Ackerman had a calender with Good Friday listed. BTW, the DRC is a good conference trying to address the NYC tilt of the DEM Party.
I thought I read that this would be 6 p.m. Most churches have their Good Friday services starting anywhere from 5pm to 7 pm I know some churches, in the case of Catholic, of which I HAPPEN to be, is like 2 or 3 in the afternoon they have Stations of the Cross. Then 5 or 6 is the "traditional" Good Friday service, which is not a Mass. Then maybe 7 or 8 at night they have the Tenebrae.
If I still had the newspaper from this past weekend, I'd refer to it where it has the roughly two page ad listing services, which were not limited to Roman Catholic churches, but I think you would find other Christian churches also have services in the evening.
I'm not interested in going to Proctor's to this function, but I fully respect people who for whatever reason would like to attend, but it comes down to going to this vs going to church.
Actually I wonder if the Schenectady cheerleader is having an issue trying to decide whether he should be in the presence of the elected leaders of the state and the party elite and try to show how he shakes the pom-poms for them vs going to Church with his other benefactors.

There is no Catholic "Mass" on Good Friday. There are however Good Friday "Services", there's a significant difference.
But I'm glad to see you excelled in your education - and continue expanding your faith.

Actually, I DID excel in school, taking courses at SCCC in my junior year, and attending NYU in what would have been my senior year.

Really? I agree there should be no state sponsered religion the people are required to worship. But to say that government is to ignore the religous beliefs of the people is quite a scary statement. What do you think of conscientious objector's?

Whatever Catholic educators you had, if you indeed did, did you a real disservice. There most certainly IS a Mass on Holy Thursday, it's called the Chrism Mass, and it's the institution of the Priesthood by our Lord at the Last Supper. After the Chrism Mass, the altar is stripped bare for Good Friday (the only day there is no mass) - until the Easter vigil on Saturday evening.
I didn't criticize the Governor for not attending on Friday. Any practicing Catholic should WANT to attend to celebrate the Passion of the Lord and the Cross, which are, or should be, important to all Catholics. The service on Good Friday is shorter than the Easter Vigil, and typically shorter than any Sunday Mass. Everything in the Good Friday service is like any other "Mass" - there's just no Eucharistic Prayer or Consecration of the Body (that's done on Thursday and placed in repose).

The governor's "parish church" is the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany. They have Good Friday service at 5:30 p.m. So I guess the governor isn't as religious as he tries to be when he uses a photo op when receiving Communion.
MT, I'll bet that Tommy is an "ashes and palms catholic" which is why he didn't always go (to Church on Good Friday) as he said in his post. He obviously doesn't grasp the meaning of Good Friday and therefore wouldn't attend. I would guess he doesn't even go to church to get a palm to show off (hang in his home), because if he went to church on Palm Sunday, he'd know that there is a Mass on Thursday and Saturday as well as the Liturgy on Good Friday.
Also, state government has a calendar of sorts of religious holidays that they send to employees along with explanation of whether mandatory attendance vs optionsal and while it doesn't prohibit things, I think it's geared toward discouraging scheduling important meetings and such, so as to not put employees in the position of not being able to freely practice their religion by virtue of being required to attend some office meeting, some training, or other seminar.

To show how you can tax homeowners out of their homes and make them pay for the millionaires who just can't to pay then. Better that families struggling on $30,000 a year have their taxes raised than to expect millioniares to pay taxes themselves.
