Schenectady Police investigate shooting March 24, 2011 10:23 PM CBS 6 Staff
Schenectady -- Schenectady Police are investigating a shooting that happened in the city's Mont Pleasant area. It happened around eight o'clock Thursday night in front of a house on the one-thousand block of Congress Street. Police tell us one person was injured, but we have no word on their condition. The investigation led them to a home on Sixth Avenue, where they took at least one person into custody. We have few other details at this time, and will bring your more information as soon as it is possible.
So is this what the city adminstration can boast about? ANOTHER HAMILTON HILL???
Who cares about proctors and all of the tax exempt businesses when the quality of life is declining on a weekly basis.

Heard about this at the Mt. Pleasant Bakery this morning. The owner of the bakery and Combo's have been screaming at the mayor and McCarthy for a couple of years now. If the bakery leaves Mt. Pleasant, there will ber NOTHING left on Congress Street. However, when I brought up Metroplex money to relocate, they said they would not stay in the city. The area is too violent now. And my grandparents lived on Hamilton Hill (Paige Street) and walked to synagogue every Saturday. We would spend Shabbos afternoon walking through the neighborhood and down Crane Street window shopping. It was another time for that area for sure.

You are right....The old ethnic, well kept sections of Mt Pleasant are history. The place is a sh!thole. The only decent businesses are the Mt Pleasant Bakery and Ferarris.. Its a damn shame. I used to routinely use Mt Pleasant as a short cut to get to Chrysler Ave and avoid Altamont ave. I ONLY do that during day light hours now.

Yossi, Know just how you feel. When I was a kid my grandparents owned a home on Hulett St. I would walk downtown with my grandmother and first go to the church and then Carl company and woolworths. Back then Hullett St. was a beautiful st.
Then as things declined we took walks to the fish market on crane st and to white eagle bakery to get babkas and cookies.
When I lived on Hullet St. I envied those who lived in Mt Pleasant and Bellevue.
We did live on Jerome ave in bellvue for part of my childhood and then I moved back to hulett st to take care of my grandfather.
Then my big mistake. Had to move as my grandfather had to go in a nursing home, he could no longer walk after breaking a hip and i had a toddler and baby to take care of.
So instead of renting thought we might beable to buy a house. Found the one I live in on sch'dy st. and every summer its shooting and fights etc.
Hate that Mt Pleasant is the same way now : (
I say enough is enough with metroplex, there are more important issues in the city that the money could be used for. Our city is falling apart, we cannot walk the streets and do not even feel safe in our own homes.
Jerome is now a crappy street to live on. With a drug house on each block of it. Loud parties and car break ins all the time. They finally got rid of the Level 3 sex offender last year though.
