Like Pat Z mentioned, when will our part time mayor be working, before 9 or after 5 ?  Or does he take time off from the DA job ?

From her Blog:

McCarthy to exit Metroplex board March 14, 2011 at 5:28 pm by Lauren Stanforth, Staff writer

Likely Schenectady Democratic mayoral candidate Gary McCarthy, who will step in part-time when Mayor Brian Stratton exists for a state job next month, says when he takes over in Stratton’s absence he’ll resign from the Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority.

Observers have slightly groused about McCarthy’s role on the Metroplex board since he’ll be taking on the duties of mayor. This seems to address those concerns. McCarthy, who is currently City Council President, was on Metroplex as the city-appointee, so City Council will have to find a new replacement.

We've had a part time Mayor for 7 years. This is nothing new. Predict McCarthy will actually put in more hours a week. The City will save over $250,000 in salary, benes and perks after April 1st. Maybe we can get a street repaved. Repaved not cold patched. Who gets the JEEP?

We now have someone that works in law enforcement ...who has access to and is in decision making at a TV station now a government leader making decisions effecting a whole community?  I realize he already was in government but I think the position he will now hold is a great deal more serious.  Lets see...government...law enforcement...communications.... There is only one player missing.  Just wondering why I am so uncomfortable with all of this.

I call like I see it and these are facts.

Sorta off topic but not too far off - who watched the council meeting? What did you think of Erikson saying he received calls from people regarding D. Birch (the young man that says he was abused by police) and then Van Norden talks about how this young man has visited city hall and the police station etc asking for FOIL requests and taking up the city employees time, and that he has sent two letters to this young man telling him not to go to city hall offices?  He said the young man talked alot and was distruptive and threatened suit.

But did you listen to the young man? Just something about him leads me to believe in what he is saying. I think if he was abused, then he should be proactive in getting as much information as he can, before it gets lost, as is been known to happen. He stated he has a tape recording of a police officer who admitted as much.

I for one would like to see what information he does have.

Not sure how I feel about Van Norton's statements.  He certainly did it a lot more professionally then the crude statements McCarthy made.  He explained the city's point of view but then again is it the truth?  The city folks are experts at spinning things.  Was it a setup that Erickson had the question already planned and Van Norton already knew ahead of time he had time to prepare a reply?  It certainly was presented in a very well organized way.

I see it this way Birch fired the first shot and the city returned with theirs... McCarthy's stupid, ignorant statement.  Then Birch shot again and this time Van Norton returned fire.

I was thinking if there was anyone out there in the city that can help him they would probably be aware of it by now between Birch's two CC presentations, the media coverage and be in contact with him by now.  There are so many lawyers out there just chomping at the bit to sue the city.

If I was him I would be sitting low now and wait a few weeks then follow it up and let the citizens know where things stood, keep the presentation simple.  We already know the issues now all he has to do is say whether any actions have been taken yet that met his needs. In the meantime he should be getting the lawyer he referred to to move forward on the lawsuit

What has me wondering about the whole situation is that there has been repeated actions by Bennett to expose the rouge cops like the ones that beat up that guy on Union Street.  Bennett didn't just sweep it under the rug. He got rid of 9 cops so far.  That stuff never happened before, not to that extent, ever in the history of the city.

If Birch is indeed disruptive to employees I wouldn't blame the city to put their foot down.

To get a foil I would think is get the application fill it out hand it in and leave.  The employees don't have anything to do with the subject of the foil they can't do anything about the abuse issue he is presenting.  But then again could they be giving him a hard time getting it, to take it or getting the foil requests info he is asking for? Do they have anything to do with that part of it? Are they the ones that determine which to be followed up on? I never did a foil.  How many times have Pat and Vince been against that wall with foils?  I seem to remember quite a few.  I don't know the process.

I basically had just focused on the stigma of the McCarthy statement and the cruelness of it.  I figure others in the city would speak up for their concerns about the issue of police brutality.

Just questions and thoughts rolling around in my head.  Don't know what to make of it all.

Just don't know.

Thats exactly how it seemed to me.

When I was trying to deliver the paperwork to city hall two years ago that I had to file for my small claims review for my property I was sent from office to office, no one knew nuthin.  I knew that one copy was to go to the city clerk, but she said they didn't take them there, they sent me to the small claims court upstairs, they said they had nothing to do with it, then I was sent to the legal dept. then the financial dept and on and on. Thats why some people had trouble at their court date, all papers not filed, and I can undertand why : (

I was persistant though and had the clerk stamp it and handed it to her after being there over an hour and going to all offices they sent me to. So is D. Birch just being persistant?

What he should do it bring someone with him when he is trying to get his FOIL requests and its good he carries a tape recorder.

Not surprised you were sent all over the place.  I have heard of that happening before.

From the way Van Norton presented he indicated the recordings were useless. Don't know.
