Most? I hardly doubt that every resident was called, and we KNOW there wasn't a vote on the issue - so define "most"
Polls do not require that every resident be called --- and the same outfit that did the public opinion survey on the parks did the survey for the Ambulance Tax District -- and that poll EXACTLY matched the actual outcome of the referendum. BTW --- there is NO legal requirement for the park issue to be put up for a public referendum. The town already owns the land .... and it will be developed as funds (through PRIVATE donations and public grants) become available.

Most residents of Rotterdam WANT a new town park .. the town has owned the land for this park for 16 years ... and security and emergency response will not be a problem.
You said - MOST RESIDENTS WANT ... that'd be incorrect - most people SURVEYED may have said they wanted.
You said - MOST RESIDENTS WANT ... that'd be incorrect - most people SURVEYED may have said they wanted.
We'll see
The Parks and Recreation Commission has always told the public the FULL TRUTH about this proposal. You and Joe Surhada have attempted to spread LIES and MISINFORMATION about a subject that you know NOTHING about.
Almost 75% of residents wanted the park - when the survey was taken .. and i am quite confident that the same margin will support the proposal as they hear more and more of the specific plans.
They certainly DON'T want what Joe Surhada and you want ... to see 78 acres of town owned land .. and 64 acres of state owned land remain OFF THE TAX ROLLS AND UNAVAILABLE FOR THE ENJOYMENT OF ALL RESIDENTS. Since neither site can ever be ON THE TAX ROLLS (for various environmental reasons) it makes eminent sense to allow them to be enjoyed as a passive use park. Especially since PRIVATE funds, state funds and federal funds are available to pay NOT ONLY for the development of the new passive use park .. but could be leveraged to pay for a new community center and improvements to the other town parks.
Apparently, Joe Surhada and you would rather see this grant money go to other communities in the state or the nation .. you and joe surhada would rather NOT have any progress in our town ... and because you and Joe Surhada are probably rich enough to travel out of town for your recreational pursuits --- you look down on the residents of the town who only want a nice park to relax and recreate in. SHAME ON BOTH OF YOU.

Andrew Beam 06/15/11 Rotterdam eyes costs of turning old Grand Union into public safety facility
The Rotterdam Town Board voted unanimously to begin negotiations on the Grand Union renovation project after several board members urged the amendment of the agenda to allow them to do so.
The project proposes renovating the existing Grand Union building at 2696 Hamburg St. and transforming it into a new town police and court facility.
“Why do we have to wait till the [June 22 meeting]?” asked Councilwoman Nicola DiLeva at the meeting on Wednesday, June 8. “We all know the police department is falling down, and we’re putting a ton of money into it. I would like to see it passed tonight so at least we’ll be able to go into negotiation to see how much they’ll want for the building.”
Once several members of the board said they would like to move forward with the process, the agenda was amended to include a new resolution.
Daniel J. DeGennaro, an associate of Clough Harbour and Associates, said the size of the building provided two options for the board to consider.
The first was from a study done in 2009 that identified an operating budget of $9.6 million. It would include renovation of the entire area with site redevelopment, equipment and furnishings allowance and an architectural and engineering fee budget. It would also include a 5,000-square-foot storage facility that would be constructed as a separate building.
The second option would cost $8 million and would only include 28,518 square feet of the Grand Union building and would build the 5,000-square-foot storage facility inside the former store......................>>>>..................>>>>................................http://www.spotlightnews.com/news/view_news.php?news_id=1308168828
Wow, me and Biaggio actually agree on something. Whaddayaknow!
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
Maybe I would feel so much more comfortable with this if FDG wasn't the one that was negotiating on our behalf. I still wonder if this is an appropriate location for the PD. I just think of this more as a business district that would be better suited with, oh, I don't know, maybe another BUSINESS that would help to bring other people in to shop at other small businesses in the area.
It is my town too, so I know all about it- warts and all.

And of what benefit to the taxpayer is it to relocate one government office building to another in the same town for over $10M??? This makes no sense whatsoever!!! Right now it costs the taxpayers about $25K/yr on maintenance. DO THE MATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, Hamburgians are screaming about no businesses in their area! Well, there is a brandie new icecream shop opened now. Ya know, one of those 'family friendly' kind of places? I certainly hope that all of those Hamburgians are patronizing and supporting this business!

Who is leading the effort to install sewers on Hamburg Street? Who is pushing for the town to purchase the former Grand Union property? Who stands to gain the most from the construction of a public safety building there? And, all with taxpayer funding!
The town better think hard and long on this one. Rotterdamians just may pull a permissive referendum and put it up for a vote! Rotterdamians will deep six it just like they did REMS!

Word on the street is that this "special consideration" may be related to the campaign contributions made by the owners. When you can't do anything with your property, sell it to the taxpayers! Like anyone might be surprised??

You could maintenance the current building for 400 years before reaching that $10 Million price tag. It's certainly NOT a cost savings and there is ZERO return on the investment. Would the $10 Million reduce crime? Don't think so. It's a giveaway to the property owner via the anticipated/hopeful takeover of Rotterdam by the copservacrats.
