NISKAYUNA
Board votes to help fund public TV effort
Town to pitch in up to $5,000

BY STEVEN COOK Gazette Reporter
Reach Gazette reporter Steven Cook at 395-3122 or scook@dailygazette.net.

The Town Board Tuesday night voted to sign on to help support Proctors’ Open Stage Media public access television efforts.
The vote means the town will contribute up to $5,000 to the public access stations. The board authorized negotiation and execution of an agreement with OSM.
In exchange, the town will get a seat on the public access channel boards, have a say about when town meetings are broadcast and get expertise and help in distributing meetings over the Internet, officials said.
“I think this is an example of ‘you’ve got to be in it in order to make it better,’ ” board member Denise Murphy McGraw said in voting for the plan.
The measure was passed by a vote of 3-0. Board members Liz Orzel Kasper and Jonathan McKinney were absent. McGraw, board member Julie McDonnell and Supervisor Joe Landry voted in support.
The vote came after a presentation by Proctors Chief Executive Officer Philip Morris at the board’s agenda meeting last month pitching the plan and asking for support.
Proctors, which operates OSM, is seeking $5,000 from Niskayuna, Rotterdam and Glenville along with $2,500 from Scotia. The money is to pay the cost of hiring an outreach employee who would help create content for the public access channels.
The request is expected to be an annual one. ................>>>>..................>>>>...................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01100&AppName=1

The only surprise is this didn't pass 5-0. Great attendance by the all-DEM Nisky town bored? This is what happens with one party all DEM rule. No debate-no checks and balances-no problemo.

The funny thing is that Mercury Morris is wasting time begging for more fees. Next up Rotterdam-where it will also be approved 5-0. Working together works! To reward friends and soak the taxpayers. All the more reason why Glenville must stick to its guns and stop the cash grab by Mercury Morris/OSM.

The coordinator position is to help provide technical assistance and help residents create content for the government, education and public access channels.

Open Stage Media is also to help advise the town on purchasing permanent video equipment for the Town Board chambers. The town is set to purchase the equipment using about $30,000 in funds from the town’s franchise agreement with Time Warner.

I will go on record saying this is one hell of a very good deal in regards to getting a coordinator, services, support and equipment purchase advise for $5K. I'm not kidding here, it really is.

But...most likely the coordinators who may or may not be picked by the communities but by Morris, most likely will all be political insiders thus the whole thing is doomed for failure.  When hasn't this happened in the city and in the communities?  It is a tradition.

I don't have use for using the strong arm tactics Morris used.  The statements he made publicly in the media were threats, threats were uncalled for in the entire process. Then again maybe he had tried the other approach and Nisky just wouldn't respond. I don't know. I don't have all the facts.

He did post on the station that if residents didn't like things the way 'he' ran the Government channel they were given the suggestion to contact their legislators and voice their concerns.

Then again we heard from one community that led me to believe... Morris is saying "his way or the highway".  A very bad thing.

All that being said, there is just too much secrecy about how things are organized.  What are these public access channel boards? Who are on these boards?  Sounds like they have already been set up.  Are they set up with McCarthy and Morris the directors on each one?  Are they a group of hand picked 'who do you knows'.  government and Metroplex insiders?

I still prefer 501(c)(3) utilizing the membership approach. Have the public involved.  Still too much secrecy involved.  Too much like Metroplex, no public involved.  I still haven't heard one thing on the non profit status of Public Access are they an independent non profit?

There should be a "public" presentation" outlining the steps and approach that Morris is using to put together Public Access.

There doesn't appear to be anything.  Morris is not letting the "Public" be a part  of' Public Access', being informed of "his" goals.  All we hear is "his" threats to community legislators.   At least I am not aware of anything outlining or a time line of what the heck he is doing. I don't have time to watch OSM all day and night trying to maybe hit on a program on the channels that does say what he is doing.

The one video I did see was very political and providing false information.   It is an insight to just where Public Access currently is.

A outline or a  time line Morris is using should be the 'first' thing listed on the OSM website home page.  Again, to much secrecy.

If I am wrong then someone correct me.  I am always open for getting the facts in an issue.

Public Access is supposed to be "Public" and it isn't.

(SACC Inc. meeting is held every 3rd Tues at 5:30pm at the Price Chopper Community Room, Eastern Parkway All are welcome.  Help put "Public" back into "Public Access"

Yeah
Real tough
Record the meeting to SD media
Put a header and footer on in our town we pay $56 a meeting for this
Save to hard drive on a server as an itunes or windows media file
Put a link on the town web site to the file
Anyone with web access can see the meeting

Skill lever for all but heaser and footer of the video file

Secretarial work - town clerk!!!!

Thus - bend me over and shove it in sideways

5K for what????

Rotterdam better vote - NO and invest the 5K into buildout

Quote of the week-"I think we get a lot more bang for our buck out of the $5,000"-stated Supervisor Landry. Huh? WTF? The Nisky residents could get more bang out of $5,000. Total waste of money.

Nobody watches it-who cares about a seat on some secret bored? Cel has it right. A stooge bored exactly like Metrograft. Where hand picked stooges can cheer Mercury Morris and no one cares. The first one that stops cheering will be removed. Zero accountability but the appearance of transparency. Next on the griddle Rotterdam-hope that Tippy is right but most lack spine.

Mornin Benny.  A lot of people are watching the "Community" used to be the "Public Access" channel and the "Government" channel.  I don't know about how the Educational channel is doing never watch it.

Hey, just realized with them calling it the "Community" channel... I heard that on the propaganda video.  Just realized it went from PEG to CEG  but the way I understood it I think it is supposed to be PEG.

Saw the City School Board meeting the other day.  Now ya have to admit that is a ground breaking first.  We never had that before Ben.  School Board meetings now are available to everyone well at least to those with TW cable.

Tippy brings up a good point though about putting it up on the internet...More people would have access to the Government meetings

I still don't like the Setup of OSM and PEG in our community.

The orders came "straight from the top" of the capo's pointy head.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

I also hear nisky is looking to spend $30K on remote control HD cams and a digital deck just to get the meeting recorded
And the 5k out of their cable fee is yearly

Next moris will take that 30K plus monies from the other towns to have his own Governmental YNN - so he can push proctors to the kids in the county schools

SACC directors were floored by the true costs of a HD conversion

I am sure the dude that will produce the content will be asking $75k /yr for this services

Mercury Morris made SACC-TV an offer they couldn't refuse. Ditto Muddy Cup.

Predictions for Morris/TV Community bored-Nisky-Savage bff Denise "Tug" McGraw. City-Who else? Gary "Mr. Television" McCarthy. He can "serve" between part time Mayor and his full time County job. Rotterdam-a tougher call. Would have said DM last week. Now look for anyone with the last name Malloozzi.

Gets some high school kids who want an internship. After all, they know more about the internet than Morris does. Let them record the meetings and spread it all over the web. The students get a lovely recommendation from a town board/Supervisor for their college applications and it won't cost the town much.

How about this, involve the community in community access? Don't just bilk them in their cable bills.

Internships? Viral?-lol. This is a cash register for Mercury Morris. He could give a hoot about anything else. Pay him! This is all about giving him additional income streams. Ask him for a PILOT and he turns purple. Anything but that!

Coffee/Catering/Community TV-everything but popcorn down at Proctor's! Your taxpayer black hole for the "arts".
