the smart town places the fee(a flat precentage) on the bandwidth delivered

cable as we know it will be gone by 2020

for $8 a month you can watch all you primetime shows over and over

the answer to cable will be netflix with a napster componet

That will only work if net neutrality stays in place, because TW would rather you get your movies from them, as opposed to NetFlix, and you can also say goodbye to Skype, Vonage, and a host of other services that are internet dependant.
TW will either ban them completely, or attach such a fee, that they aren't worth it anymore.

The net neutrality argument has very little to do with kiddie porn, or homeland security, and alot to do with creating monopolies, because under already existing laws, the DOJ, and FBI, are allowed to seize those domains at will, but they don't, because they are busy usnig them for sting operations.
The only sites that get shut down, are usually foreign owned, free movie sites, at the behest of the MPAA, AND RIAA, because they cut into their profits.

Charging by bandwidth hardly seems fair, considering that when I visit a simple news site, a full length car commercial has to load first.
Video takes alot of bandwidth, text does not.

This is what will happen, if John McCain, who admits he doesn't even know how to send email, has his way, or if TW doesn't have any competition.

Competition in business is a healthy thing for us all, usually.
Thank GOD that it isn't Comcast coming in, because they are a NIGHTMARE.

Sorry about the long rant, but I feel strongly about the subject.

One more thing.
The order of the wires on the poles is, electricity on top, (that's why the cable guys wear hard hats, just in case their heads touch the power lines) then comes the pretty meticulously maintaned telephone lines, and down lower, is the cable TV lines, and they fix them in just that order.

During the ice storm a couple of years ago, the only thing that was working, was my land line telephone.

Again, sorry if I got off topic, or went on too long.
Now I have an automatic generator, and a TV antenna just in case.
Please don;t get me going on National Grid.

A couple of years ago we lost everything from an ice storm. TW was the first on the scene. (within one hour) Next was nat'd grid. 2 days later it was verizon. The very next day we went with TW's bundle.

Verizon service sucks!!

I guess I'll just have to  believe that one, because obviously, your particular TV set, or computer, doesn't require electricity.

The "underground" thing, is massively expensive.
Nice, and more cost effective in the long run, but the initial expense, would make your head spin.

Repairing the buried plant is even more expensive and also presents problems finding the damage and in the winter the frost in the ground hampers digging. Tommy is correct it's very expensive to bury wires and if the cables are encased in concrete in ducts it's even more expensive.

We have an whole house generator.

As do I, except for the central air conditioner  compressor, and the dryer (2k  more expensive), because to I'm able to power my whole house, but hey, I've lived for most of my life without a dryer, or central air, and I'm pretty sure I can live without the air conditioner during an ice storm.
