The City is consolidating SNAP (which should have been eliminated) at the new Taj Mahal Garage (which should never have been built) on Foster Ave. They tried to sell the old SFD station for months with no takers. Then they threw it to Death Ray who had no takers. So they invented this nonsense "plan". Free rent, no taxes for a business with street traffic! For years Death Ray has been building street traffic Downtown with no results. He has the sheeple paying rent at the Center City disaster for a business that will "generate lunch traffic". No one has seen them yet. The same crap over and over. The real joke is that Death Ray endorses this. It proves once again that he knows nothing about planning, nothing about finance, nothing about business and nothing about street traffic. |

Dunno JB - once they're in "the business", do you think they'll really want to get OUT? kinda like taxes - they never go away once those that impose them see how easy they are to keep adding TO. |

Another example why everyone in City Hall needs to be flushed. This is what passes for a plan? Let the sheeple City residents pay more taxes for that building. No need to sell for one dollar. And the Gazetto endorses this as the next big thang-lol. Is it big enough for a theatre? Since more arts is always the answer for these clueless DEM incumbents open up a Mt Pleasant Regional Dance Troupe. That will generate the missing street traffic. Sure Combo's and Mt P Bakery will love paying more taxes to support another City mooch. |

"Flushed"? yeah, you got THAT right. Are there any more horrifically bad ideas that those buffoons wish to foist upon us? Come on, let's get it out of the way all at one time, so that we can address them, because this whole thing is getting really tiresome.
If these economically challenged politicians were serious about attracting people and businesses back to Schenectady they would lower taxes, cut spending, reduce crime, and find a way to improve the school system so that more than 50% graduate and actually learn something so they can go out and get a job.
Hows about this? Drop that "no child left behind" nonsense, (NATIONALLY) and give grade promotions strictly upon merit. Currently. all you have to do to get a high school diploma (in public schools), is to show up occasionally , and half of them don't even bother to do that. That's why employers would prefer a BA degree, just to be a hotel desk clerk. It's the only way they can be sure that you even know how to read, because currently, high schools are graduating the functionally illiterate You get the diploma, but you don't necessarily know how to read the thing. A BA, is now the new high school diploma. A very close relative of mine, retired as the assistant deputy of education for NYS, and he told me that teachers, even at grade school level, were passing these kids, even though they knew none of the work, because it would make the teacher seem deficient. Try learning algebra, when you don't even have a working knowledge of basic math. The calculus teacher in the next grade, gets to inherit a bunch of kids that didn't even know algebra, and they STILL pass. Hows about this? Stop spending so much time celebrating diversity, and start celebrating math and science, because being all of our manufacturing jobs were outsourced, smarts are the only thing we have left, and we are falling sadly behind the rest of the world. John Wayne is dead, and if we had to do WWII again, we would be screwed, because we simply do not have the trained workers, or workers that are even able to be trained, to pull that whole thing off again. Yeah sure, build a pool for people who historically, have no interest in swimming though. Sorry about the long rant. |

Agreed, many of these kids that graduate can't pass the entrance test that many companies give in order to qualify for a job. |

Or that so called "American Wear" -- the sleaze. Heard that's where DV gets his clothes, thiings it's made in America. Watch him now post a message listing some real expensive stores that he buys his clothes. Just watch |

That was my first thought as well. Corporations. All of the profits, without that nuisance of personal responsibility. Yet people still choose to worship them, and hold rallies to support their interests, not yours. |

City of Sch’dy should give free-rent idea a try
At a meeting last month, her fellow Schenectady City Council members gave short shrift to Barbara Blanchard’s idea of providing free rent to get businesses into empty, city-owned properties. They should go back and give it the serious attention it deserves, because it’s a good idea. Downtown is doing well enough on its own and the city doesn’t own many buildings there anyway. But it’s a different story in the neighborhoods, where vacant buildings dot oncethriving business districts on streets such as Van Vranken (the North End), Albany (Hamilton Hill) and Crane (Mont Pleasant). These neighborhoods have been declining for years and the financially desperate city doesn’t have the money to make any signifi cant investments in them. What it does have, though, is vacant buildings — lots of them. Instead of treating them as a nuisance, watching them deteriorate further or demolishing them (which at $20,000 or more per building the city cannot afford), Blanchard wants to treat them as an asset and use them to attract businesses. That is what these neighborhoods need to be more attractive and stable, and the city as a whole needs to be fi nancially healthy. The most obvious objection is that this would keep the buildings off the tax rolls for the two years that Blanchard has proposed. But, of course, they aren’t on the tax rolls now, and most haven’t been for some time. That’s because a business owner would have to buy the property (cheap though it may be), spend money to fix it up and prepare it for business, then maintain and pay taxes on it. .........................>>>>........................>>>>......................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00900&AppName=1

The businesses will only stay in Schenectady until the free rent ride is over then they will flee the city to avoid the crushing high taxes and uncontrolled crime. The city must learn how to attract businesses by becoming a business friendly city thru lower taxes, reduced crime, and improved infrastructure. |

Exactly right. As far as the gang banger clothing that was tried on Van Vranken, which the pathetic Gazetto said just last summer was experiencing "rebirth". Guess what? It closed after 2 months. The first order of business should be a Citywide tax cut of 5% for 4 years. Not the mini-cuts DEMS loved. That will begin filling the hundreds of deserted storefronts. BTW, Gazetto take another look at Downtown below Erie and tell us how great things are. Neutron bomb site from Erie to the Western Gateway Bridge. |
