Office building plans are on hold
Idea for TrustCo site lacks funds

    Schenectady County has put on hold plans to convert the former TrustCo Corp. headquarters on Erie Boulevard into a office building for staff, citing a lack of money for the project.
    County Attorney Chris Gardner said the county has reassessed using the building in light of the economy and with an eye toward seeing further reductions in state and federal aid.
    “With the country going into a deep recession in 2008, Gov. [Andrew] Cuomo and everyone are saying we have to be more realistic about what we want versus what we need,” Gardner said.
    Instead, Gardner said, the county may eventually sell the building.
    “We have had several developers inquire about its availability. With the reconstruction of Erie Boulevard, we view it as an appreciating asset,” he said. “If it were to be sold, we would make a profit on the building.”
    County Legislator James Buhrmaster, R-Glenville, said selling the building is a good idea.
    “If we are not going to move in, we should move it. It is another building off the tax rolls. We have to be a little smarter about what we are doing with it,” he said.
    The county bought the seven-story building in 2005 for $2.4 million and conducted a $200,000 environmental study of the property. It wanted to use the building for offi ce space and as part of a larger plan to comply with a mandate by the state Office of Court Administration to alleviate overcrowding in Family Court and improve overall security for all courts in the county, including City Court. The city is also under mandate to improve its court conditions.
    As part of the purchase deal, TrustCo gave the county $500,000 in credits to be used to clean up the site and sold the building for $750,000 below market value, taking a tax writeoff for it. ....................>>>>..................>>>>....................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00903&AppName=1

I guess Schenectady really NEEDED Key Hall

Hmmmm revitilizing Erie Blvd, eminent domain over two businessess,  the adult store and the gun shop. And here sits a taxpayer funded monster that some developers are interested in. Yup we can see whats coming.

And as for the bridal shop on Union St they don't care about a long standing businessess who HAS been paying its share of property taxes.

Just sickening.

Finally a reply from the DEM emergency response team. Bravo to Greg Floyd of CBS-6 for finally demanding answers to another Savage/Death Ray fiasco. Next stick a fork in the half baked new County home plans. Landslide Savage was busy making merry at Key Bank when it hit the fan. This put her off the free canapes and champagne. This plan never made sense but letting Rotterdam's Mercury Morris take 2 more properties off the City tax rolls was "rebirth"?

     Funny how the current County building which was collapsing 4 years ago has now suddenly stabilized.  Can't wait to see the private businesses lining up for this. Of course it must be sold but for once without a tax giveaway and to a private business. Possible Death Ray solution! Another pocket park like this moron demanded for the gun shop.

This was not the national recession. The blame for this outrage falls squarely on the County DEMS especially Death Ray and Landslide Savage who interfered with this sale going to a private company. This fiscal incompetence has cost the City over $750,000 in lost tax revenues. But the County uses the building "for storage"-lol. Exact same thing as Key Bank where Death Ray interfered to give a spoon to his buddy Mercury Morris. The same idiotic "plans" over and over.

     At what point are the County taxpayers going to wake up and demand the firing of Death Ray? He has cost the taxpayers millions in lost tax revenue by interfering in private property sales. Not to mention the millions wasted in grants and useless tax giveaways. No wonder the City can't pay for basic police and fire protection.

Did former Schenectady County Legislator Suhrada exhibit clairvoyance when he stated during the recent
interview with Greg Floyd that the building would be sold to a connected developer for $1?  Taxpayers remain
vigilent.  Demand that the county recoup its (your) "investment" of $2.6M if the property is to be sold.

Like the stock market, the surest way to go bankrupt is to buy high and sell low.

you act like the county owning property it does not use is a big surprise-- well, scouts, it owns a building across the street from the jail that has stood vacant for more than a decade. It once owned the site on which MVP sits -- it bought the state street site for a magnificent world trade center project-- well the project never came about and now MVP is there.

The county also owns hundreds of acres at the airport, plus other sites.

What is your position re: the Bethlehem Town government purchasing the private Normanside Country Club that
will be going to public auction?  There are developers interested in the property to construct homes (which would
increase the property tax base).  The town board, however, is considering buying the property at the request of
neighbors who want to preserve the green space.  Is it the role of government to own and operate golf courses?

Except they already have a public golf course. Wonder if they pay their DEM connected golf pro over $300,000 like the City DEMS do?

     Bananas is back manning the Metrograft fax machine. Death Ray has sponsored an envelope opening at the County Trustco for 2pm. The government takes over property as a last resort when no one else wants it. That's happening all over the City after 35 years of DEM ruin. People are fleeing the tax man. Has Stratton listed his property yet? Instead of cutting spending Gary McCarthy institutes new rules to track you down to the ends of the Earth. The 35 year DEM spending orgy ends in November.

If the County is going to spend $200,000 for an environmental study (they spent $80K over at the Gillette House - now slated as a fast food joint), they better have some PLANS i.e. architect drawings, feasibility study.

A business isn't stupid enough to purchase a million dollar building to do nothing with it. On the other hand, the County LEG doesn't have to worry about paying City school or property taxes, and spending taxpayer money....well, they have no concept of the financial burden they place upon the already bankrupt City homeowners. They are totally fiscally incompetent, and that's being polite.

By abolishing Metroplex and taking money out of the hands of Gillen and the LEG, maybe the County taxpayers won't be sucked further into this supermassive black hole.

Most of a sprawling industrial complex along the Mohawk River in Schenectady could be demolished by spring, making way for new housing, retail stores and commercial offices.

The Galesi Group of Rotterdam hired a contractor, Testa Corp. of Boston, to start tearing down buildings at the former American Locomotive plant on Erie Boulevard.
