John Mertz recently told me that while he was on the Town Board, discussions about ALS collection had occurred among Board Members, but to my knowledge he never said anything until now. Just one of those things that makes you go hmmmmmm...
An issue that was NEVER public knowledge is a little different than a town wide public debate about a taxing district that she(and I agree the rest) never took a public position. She could have possibly derailed the unnecessary vote if she continued as the anti-tax crusader that she pretended to be.
Now the ALS money that we have no idea where it went doesn't make me say hmmmmmmm, I'm pretty sure it was spent inappropriately and certain peoples bank accounts are a little bit larger for it. The fact an investigation to account for the money hasn't ended up on any of the recent agenda's, and we are preoccupied with bull$hit going on at the Senior Center just reminds me every day that I still live in Rotterdam.
My point was, she was a big tax fighting warrior, but on an issue that would DEFINITELY RAISE EVERYBODY'S TAXES - she went quiet. No...it's a LOT different...it could have and should have been public knowledge as soon as Mertz knew what was going on. I'm not saying hmmmm over where the money went....I agree, it probably lined some pockets...I'm saying hmmmmm to Mertz's curious reluctance to inform the public as soon as he became aware of that scam...long before his term ended.
ND did not have the votes to derail the tax vote.
For the record, FDG is still talking about an audit...he still wants it done. He also wants the money back which I have told him he will never get...but those responsible for that rip off should be brought to account....if we can't get the money back then we should at least be able to expect justice.

What's this have to do with the price of eggs in China?
She could have done her typical grandstanding, like when she stood up at the board meeting and asked FDG to promise the seniors that he wouldn't close the Senior Center. The referendum was in the news for MONTHS. Why didn't she put on the big production opposing the taxing district and the tax increase? It's not like it was a political loser, the district went down 2 to 1. Unless...She supported the unpopular new tax, or, she was told to keep her mouth shut by her party leaders.
I know,,,I know,,,,things aren't always as they appear. There are only 4 people that had the political courage to publically oppose the taxing district,,,and that was/is the NNTP guys.
gadfly so you are saying ND who was the biggest champion for HOLDING the vote and the person with a rems sign on her front lawn was both against the district and against holding the vote? Really???????????? You are so full of sh!t it is coming out of your mouth! Just man up and admit she was in favor of the tax the public came out in force against it and since she is a populist she changed her views....we could all respect that... but tot blatantly lie questions her ability to serve in elected office...you are not doing her any favors...just like you have NEVER done a candidate any favors by "helping" them.....
Many Rotterdamians have told me they LOVE Nicki...I hear if you attend a TB mtg you can see it twice a month. My guess is BT that she is not a memebr of your pretend NNTP so you will begin to put her down.
Everyone sees through your bs....its not really that hard and your not really that crafty. Nice try tho.
I might not have some fancyi degree like some of you, but I think the nntp guys were pretty much in tune with what most of us feel. We are all pretty much done with the names, just give us an issue to vote on. No new taxes sounds pretty good to me and my family.

I didn't say she was for the tax...because she wasn't...and your continually insisting that she was does not change that...I only said there were not enough votes to stop the referendum.

Well it has nothing to do with China, but Rotterdam would have been better off if Mertz had made the ALS scandal public as soon as he knew about it.
Instead of assuming ND's motives, why don't you just ask her?? I only wish someone had told her to shut up about it because the first thing she would have done is sound off!! LMAO....just as she eventually agreed to let Doogie put up the REMS sign right after FDG told her not to.
No one could have known the political implications until after the vote...and pardon me, but the NNTP are not the only four who openly opposed the tax...some of us had been doing just that for years...from the moment that scam was conceived...and I was never a member of the NNTP...mostly because it is not a Party.

How many people on the Rotterdam Republican executive committee knew about the ALS scandal? What are they doing to "bring justice" to the residents? Oh,, they're looking to endorse ND, and she's going to be responsible for bringing those people that were involved in the ALS scandal to justice.
Instead of assuming ND's motives, why don't you just ask her??
She can tell me anything she wants,,,AFTER THE FACT. I don't care what a politicians SAYS to my face in private. It's what they say and vote on FOR THE RECORD.
Gadfly, I'm as happy as you are that the Tommasone admin is a thing of the past, but blaming Mertz for the ALS issue is laughable. If I recall, he was the only elected official who opposed the tax district and if you believe some of the posters on this forum, he single handedly created the no tax party to oppose the new tax. It seems a little odd that you would be on different sides?
Black spidey has it right, your blind support for ND is really damaging your credibility.

Before or after the fact, she will tell you straight...all you have to do is ask...which is always better than assuming.
I don't know who, if anyone, on the REP E-Board knew about the ALS scandal...unless Mertz was on that Board when he found out about it and I don't know if he was...but a political committee and/or its Board has no responsibility or authority to deliver justice. Their candidate endorsements have nothing to do with it.
I only know that Mertz was on the TOWN Board when he found out about it...so he was in a position to do something about it but he didn't...he stayed silent.

I didn't blame Mertz...we are not on different sides where the ems tax is concerned...but he could have brought it to light much sooner...and maybe, just maybe...the ems tax scam could have died then and there. I'm not saying it would have...we'll never know now...but he should have acted upon that information as soon as he was aware of it.
Are you saying he was right to withhold that information from the residents???
Any support for ND on my part is not derived from blindness...unlike your assumptions about her...and assumptions will always be far more of a threat to anyone's credibility than information from the source. Things aren't always as they seem...
BTW...I heard that MO is the one who started the NNTP....which still isn't a Party.
So tell me Zorro, oh great protector from tyranny...how do you conclude that my credibility is damaged by someone you don't even know??? You don't even know me, for all I know...
