Mr. McCarthy is such a  bobble head bully.  He offers apologies then says in the same breath his statements were misinterpretation.  Duh Yeah right.  His comment at the last meeting was derogatory no matter how you spin it.

Then he indicates it is his job to correct what a citizen presents.  He still doesn't get it.

He's not supposed to correct people is he?

And just how exactly were his comments misinterpreted? What he said at the last meeting was painfully CLEAR. Maybe he should just
keep his trap shut. Save himself a whole lot of trouble. Well, actually he should keep 'em coming so everyone can see what an a** he can
be.

We can collect all his out of order statements and make a mash up for election time!

SCHENECTADY
Mental health comments still controversial
McCarthy issues another apology; Verizon in line for cable TV franchise

BY DAVID LOMBARDO Gazette Reporter

The City Council Monday night authorized the transfer of cityowned properties to the Schenectady Renewal Agency and advanced the possibility of Verizon setting up a cable franchise, but the recurring theme for residents was anger over mental health comments made by Council President Gary McCarthy at a previous meeting.
Celeste Trotz, of Schenectady, said the comment was cruel and possibly violated rules of conduct at a council meeting. She was one of a handful of speakers who expressed deep concerns with the way Mc-Carthy characterized people with mental health problems. “This was uncalled for,” said Trotz.
During the council meeting on Feb. 14, an excited resident claimed to have been brutalized by police and said he was in possession of videos documenting the instance, which prompted McCarthy to declare that mental health issues often drive the council meetings.
The next day McCarthy clarifi ed his comments by explaining that his remark stemmed from his history with the speaker. Based on knowing the young man through his work with the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Offi ce, McCarthy said the allegations were baseless.
Monday he again apologized for his remarks and later noted that the young man won’t share his evidence. This was about an hour after the young man repeated his allegations during the meeting and was followed out by his grandfather, who chatted amiably with McCarthy after the meeting.
For some the issue isn’t over, as resident Jason Planck said he wasn’t satisfied with the apology. He feels as though this incident presents an opportunity to address disability policies and procedures in the city. Planck, who is disabled, concluded that it is probably too late for Mc-Carthy to make amends. ...................>>>>.....................>>>>..................................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00900&AppName=1

Bravo to all last night! One speaker after another slamming the Mayor in waiting for his abuse of process. Special thanks to those saying it in prose. Extra style points for connecting this debacle with Metrograft. If Death Ray shows at a meeting he does not wait for a chance to speak with timer. He's on the other side of the rail for his dog and pony shows-with unlimited time.

Another indication of the tremendous power of this board. Push the story until it was picked up by other media outlets. Other huge victories on the horizon. Today in an editorial the Gazetto agreed with my idea to promote Sharon Jordan to interim Mayor. Everyone is reading this site.

You can't stop somebody with nobody. We must propose a realistic option. She's was horrible at SMHA but at least she is in City Hall and understands the players. We can't have a part time Mayor with the full time problems.

Just got to watch the meeting, as I didn't get to hear all while there.

Cel you did an amazing job, got your point across about stigma and also about council rules from both side of the floor. : )

I still don't get council presidents job, as he interacts with some and then goes on to say that council cannot, very confusing.

Got to see Pat walk back up and heard what she said : )

In the Gazette it said McCarthy apologized again, when was the first time?

What is still very troublesome is in this "apology" again we are told that what this young man said was baseless and was not good for the police dept?  I'm still hoping that someone "outside' of the city takes a look at what he has and is able to help him whatever the situation. His comments should not be ignored as per GM request.

Lastly, I knew I'm aging but didn't realize how much : (

Did McCarthy attend the same school of charm as NYS (109th AD) Assemblyman Bob Reilly?  They have both recently
exhibited the same lack of compassion for those who are afflicted with mental illness or physical disability.

Had heard that on the radio when it first aired, couldn't believe what I was hearing. All he had to do was say what the young man said without having to "imitate" him. I don't know what wrong with these politicians : (

WGY had the mccarthy 'mental health' issue from last nights meeting on their news broadcast all this morning!!
GREAT JOB AGAIN EVERYONE!!!

McCarthy needs to resign....really! This 'mental issue statement' will be the black cloud that will follow him for the rest of his political life! Just like the failed sex offender issue for kosiur and the miracle mile for savage.

Post 159 GREAT JOB AGAIN EVERYONE!!!

Hi bumblethru.  I am now realizing it really wasn't a great job that I did.  At least not the job I tried to do, fight Stigma.

What is happening now appears as no better than what he did.  It is using the term "mental health issues"  to cause harm to another.  Using it like a sword to put someone down, in this case McCarthy.  What he said was wrong the ramifications to be seen and felt for a long time to come but I have to call a halt to "myself" using this event to prove why he is not going to be an effective leader.

I got caught up in it. Referring to whether he would be an effective leader because of the statement made at the cc meeting and to the TU reporter, being motivated by my passions to fight STIGMA.  Blinded by that passion.

Mr. Majestyk  Gary McCarthy Thread  Post # 15  "When one has ones fingers in too many pies the borders become blurred".

I was warned.  I tried hard not to have too many fingers in the too many pies. I choose one pie STIGMA and stuck my finger in it. But others have many pies and many fingers and they are poking holes in each one.  That's ok. Everyone has their right to do whatever they want with their pies they have a right to their own agenda.  But I failed at mine.  The issue of STIGMA lost to politics. Naivety my master.

I have so many other reasons I don't have faith in McCarthy.  I will focus on those.

If I lived in the city, I certainly would NOT want Jordan to be "the mayor"

However, it would be very logical.  Not because she's been the "deputy" but because she's just another "I don't want to deal with it, I don't want to talk to you, just call such and such office."

Hiring someone else like a professional manager for a temporary job would probably take longer to find someone who would take a temp job, even though I want to say hire someone for 9 months at half Stratton's pay

I just cannot see McCarthy doing it from a few view points.
1.  CLEARLY he has proven his unworthiness because he has violated confidentiality and/or played this spokes person role of the DA's office without authorization (like I said, did he call Carney before he made that statement at the meeting two week ago?
2.  His persistent sarcastic remarks are unbecoming of a mayor
3.  It would be extremely difficult to do both jobs
4.  He sits on too many boards/committees already, I would see far too much conflict of interest
5.  He's one of the democrat network of the past decade that have snubbed the citizens, snubbed and thoroughly ignored the neighborhoods, raised taxes on the residential homeowners, etc. etc. etc.

Not an easy solution, I just thank God every day that I don't live in that city

speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Cel,
Been thinking about this today, thought maybe we (you and me) could meet with council and discuss MH issues etc, sorta like an educational format.?

Maybe they have questions we could answer.

And it would be a more comfortable environment.

And I won't ask "proffesionals" to attend.

RP:

Interesting idea but I am not so sure that could be arranged  Their committees meeting would be the only way I could see and even though the remark was said from someone holding a leadership position on the council and the manner it was used I feel and believe in my heart was derogatory.  I think the council got a good dose of what STIGMA is about and means at the city council meeting last night.  Those that didn't never will get it.

I was wondering if a better way to go is doing educational presentations at high schools teaching the future leaders of tomorrow about the issues involved in mental health offered by individuals that live it.

It is so common to see our youth in so much pain due to mental health issues.  Some in so much pain they take their lives.  Maybe by presenting they would see what a common feeling that is and it is ok to admit it and see a councilor about it it, is not a character defect.

Oh by the way nothing wrong with throwing in one or two professionals. Recovery takes everyone to have it happen.  Medical intervention (Medications, Physicals, Blood tests etc.), therapists, group therapy (education and skill building) and peer support.

Excellent idea about the schools.

Right now my niece in elementary school I believe having anxiety issues, trying to avoid going to school.

When  i  was in high school I would have to just get up and walk out of the class and out the door. Missed 50 days in my senior year. didn't realize at the time it was panic attacks, just knew I couldn't breathe and had to leave.

Makes me think how many kids right now are going through the same thing and some parents and teachers and staff would not recognize panic attacks, might see it as a discipline issue.

When my youngest son with tourettes was having anxiety issues due to his tics etc, I fought for a 504 for him and one of the conditions was that he was given a pass to leave the room for a few minutes to go get a drink of water etc. just to relieve the stress. What was great about that was just him knowing he could leave was such a relief, he ended up not having to use it : )
