Ice, snow on Jay Street walkway needs attention

As a longtime resident of Schenectady whose small business had been housed in downtown Troy for the past seven years I was delighted when I finally had the opportunity to rent space on Jay Street’s pedestrian walkway.
However, since large amounts of snow have accumulated this winter, I wonder why such a vital part of the city is being ignored. A narrow walkway that is often glazed with ice in places, with senior citizens hanging on to each other and tiptoeing around potentially hazardous areas, creates an environment that people wish to avoid. Shopkeepers at the end of the strip seen shoveling their entrances are asked by potential shoppers if it’s safe to walk the strip without accident.
With Lion King just around the corner perhaps those responsible for maintenance of the strip, and even Proctors, should be concerned about the image downtown Schenectady presents to those who have decided to venture outside the theater to see what else our lovely city might have to offer.

Just Jay Street? Try driving down Van Vranken, Broadway or Union Avenue. Snow removal on JayStreet  is the responsibility of the incompetent DSIC. Another organization politicized for the first time by the fleeing Mayor. He maybe fleeing but his "accomplishments' will linger for years.

Don't worry, the snow is being removed today, by Mother Nature.  I wonder, if all the projects in Rotterdam that are suggested are successful, where are we going to store all our snow, leave it at the businesses where they come from right now?  I mean, if the Curry Road Shopping Center becomes something and the apartments come to happen at the Republican Club, where are the trucks going to drive all the snow to in order to dump it?

I know certain parts of down town and the Hill areas are getting flooded.

It was probably easier to write a letter to the Gazetto rather than calling the City - the same thing will happen...nothing. Funny how a little snow can easily bring a sudden stop to a renaissance.
