It wouldn't be surprising to see Savage/Stratton/Gillen give GE and offer they can't refuse.........TAX EXEMPT!!! |

I doubt GE would be interested. The parking for that building is horrible. If they were to do that though, it would make a lot more sense than tax exemptions for Bombers. You'd actually have hundreds of people working down there again, spending money at lunch, etc... And maybe one or two of them might choose to reside in the city |

they will utilize CDTA that we already subsidise with a 'park and ride'..... |

just what I had in mind.....GE can supply the buses and the workers since alot of the current workers hang out at the non-existent pubs/caffes on campus.... |

It is not as simple as "let's throw everything onto a moving truck and move down to Erie Blvd" --- it is a lot more complicated than that.
How about "lets throw everything into the city cars that employees bring home and move down to Erie Blvd" its as simple as that : ) And I'm sure Morris knows people with trailers. Just think of people who are losing their homes due to the economy that Savage spoke (or smiled) of. They still have to move their stuff out. |

Not likely... Do you think Ellis loves their shuttle bus method of bringing the majority (?) of their workers to their facility? |

Majority of one? Try telling that one to the property owners around Ellis. And the shuttle is working so well (lol) that Ellis is planning to build another multistory parking lot/eyesore on the corner of Belmont and Rosa Rd. Let's see if for once the City ZBA enforces its zoning regulations on connected nonprofits. |

Bottom line is this has been a terrible blow to the taxpayers due to Savage's incompetence. |
| "While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat." |

no but GE can afford to purchase coach buses with TV's in them.....or maybe the union gumbas could furnish it? |

Building could be GE site Marv Cermak
News stories last week noted that General Electric is looking for up to 100,000 square feet of office space in the Capital Region. I'll bet taxpayers would be thrilled if GE purchased that white elephant former Trustco Bank corporate headquarters that Schenectady County bought for $2.4 million. The seven-story, relatively new structure on Erie Boulevard is located within walking distance of the GE main plant. The building, which was supposed to be the new County Office Building, has been vacant since the politicians bought the place in 2005. A couple times since the purchase, I wrote items quoting Chris Gardner, county attorney and county Democratic Party capo, saying the county would occupy the building by the end of the year. I guess in all fairness, Gardner didn't say what year. Besides underwriting the $2.4 million cost for emptiness, the taxpayers took another big wallet hit because of the dumb deal. Since the county took ownership, the property taxes that by Trustco and any subsequent private purchaser would have paid on the building has totaled $600,000.

Marv : ) Wonder if he frequents this forum? If he does hope he sees the info Pat compiled regarding exemptions. I think him and Laura S could expose alot to the people.

Nothing like helping "paying" a business to move out of the city. Only ones we move in are tax exempt ones. Must be only way they will locate here. From a business standpoint can't blame them. In an economy such as this, business holds the cards. Can pick/choose the best corporate welfare has to offer. |

If the Plex had spent $50 million in getting GE to come back or another nanotech business to the area, our neighborhoods could have been saved, the Downtown could have been filled with businesses which wanted to come (and they'd pay property and school taxes) and the City taxpayers could be paying 3/4 of what they pay now.
What we're left with is a City that no one can afford to live in and choses not to. A downtown funded with millions of taxpayers dollars and nothing coming back. GE won't come to Schenectady -we already pushed them out once - they'll be in Albany where they'll get respect from the City leaders. |
