Quoted from Henry
I used to love going there when I was a kid, however I went there last year probably the 1st time in almost 12 years and was very disappointed. There was no new displays and the mood was just depressing. I believe there was 3 other people there and it was just gloomy all around. It's amazing that place hasn't shut down yet, maybe they could do the city a favor and auction off what crap they have left. The only thing left is sad reminders of what a thriving city Schenectady used to be

I agree. They should have cut the hours a long time ago. They are located too far from the 'miracle 2 blocks' to succeed.

I would never confuse you for a "lowlife, bum or criminal".

In all fairness, I can see this being a benefit to the kids at Union.  Friendly's was always busy, I never understood why they closed.  As for "renaissance" - don't think so, but it's a bonus for the city.  Hopefully NO $ from Metroplex or the city was involved, we'll see.

If recent history is any indication, and history does repeat itself, the(pardon the pun),perks will be evident in this business.   It seems no business comes into town without some form of subsidy from the local gov't.   Even Target in Glenville is strapping on the feed bucket.

Why is this museum still stuck on a hill in almost total obscurity? You would think that with all the vacant buildings in the area, this could have been moved YEARS ago to a better location. Get GE to fund a building, build a wing, something to get this place some $$.

Unfortunately, right now the economy can't truly support a non-profit like this. Hey...maybe the museum could get some 3rd rate Broadway play, charge $100 a ticket, stroke Mr. Gillens ego and get the final remaining $5 million in Plex funds. Stranger things have been known to happen.

The museum should combine with all the other such places in the city. I agree the location is terrible.

This museum must be closed. Move the old dusty radios and tubes to the Edison Museum on Broadway. They made a fatal mistake by giving away great art and focusing on technology. A Picasso was loaned to Glens Falls. There is no there there.

GE should combine with the Edison and have a museum at the Main Plant. The County taxpayer can no longer afford this black hole. We will have a new County home to fund for decades.

The Plex only has $5 million left?  It must be time for those people that are going to cut the waste in Albany (namely Tedisco, Amedore and Farley) to bring to the floor and vote to extend this communist organization's spending cap like everybody else does to the state each year.

Most museums-Arkell in Canajoharie,Rock and Roll hall of fame in Cleveland etc. are all hurting and resorting to holding social events,birthdays/anniv. showing movies, etc. to generate interest.   Farmers museum in Cooperstown as well.   All atten, numbers/$ are down, so is interest.   Hence resortring to these scenarios.   They can no longer survive/generate interest on their own merit.   Seems to me this course dilutes what the museum is about, when to get you there they run a Harry Potter movie or some such title when the draw should be the subject matter of the museums theme.   What next slot machines at the museum or Elvis impersonators on a barge at the Canal Fest?

While other museums are being creative and looking to increase revenues beyond the taxpayers-the Schenectady Museum on the hill with no parking-does nothing. Donors are tapped out many have moved out of State. More and more people with a tin cup out. Less and less able to contribute. The Schenectady Museum should follow others and get creative. For once put on your thinking caps.

The County/City taxpayers can't afford this luxury anymore. Nobody goes there-they can't even run a Festival of Nations on a profitable basis. This bored has to do something besides begging the City and County.

Good one. Did you hear what Mohawk Honda did in Glenville? Put in a pastry shoppe! Can you image if that was in Miracle Downtown? People would be living in the showroom. Heard sales are way up since they fled the imploding City. WOW! They can't even pay for police and fire services-some "rebirth".

They must have doubled the sales, easy. Maybe tripled.

the Schenectady Museum doesn't really have attractions that encourage people to visit.   Once you have seen the planetarium and the other exhibits, you pretty much don't need to come back again for a decade or so.

If they could join forces with the Edison Museum (which is a great idea but in a bad location), They could really make a start at being a first class museum.

Consolidation will solve this problem.
