Teens charged with weapon possession
    SCHENECTADY — Two city teens stand accused of possessing weapons, authorities said.
    Luis W. Hernandez, 18, of Summit Avenue, and Joseph Galindez, 18, of Sixth Avenue, were each charged Aug. 18 with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony.
    Hernandez is accused of possessing a loaded .32-caliber revolver just after midnight Aug. 18 on Crane Street, according to papers fi led in his case.

Teen accused of purse-snatching
    SCHENECTADY — A city teen faces a robbery count, accused of lice in the Troop G barracks issued 1,200 speeding tickets during the “Speed Week” enforcement initiative.
    In addition, troopers wrote more than 1,300 other tickets for traffic offenses including 41 drunk driving citations and 187 seat belt infractions during its week-long campaign.
    The first “Speed Week” initiative coincided with the NASCAR race at Watkins Glen Raceway. The number of tickets is an increase from the 966 issued during the same period last year, according to a news release from police.

Brooklyn man faces felony in break-in
    SCHENECTADY — A Brooklyn man faces a felony burglary count, accused of breaking into a McClellan Street home and attacking a woman last week, authorities said.
    Gregory E. Byer, 35, was charged Aug. 19 with one count of seconddegree burglary, a felony, along with criminal obstruction of breathing, aggravated harassment and criminal contempt, which are misdemeanors.
    Byer is accused of breaking into the home and grabbing the woman by the throat and applying pressure at about 10 a.m. that day, violating an order of protection, according to papers filed in court.

Patient accused of punching nurse
    SCHENECTADY — An Ellis Hospital nurse was punched in the face last week by a man she was trying to help, according to papers filed in court.
    Gerald A. Kent, 41, of Van Vranken Avenue, is accused of punching the nurse as she was treating him for injuries caused by a broken coffee pot on Aug. 18, according to papers.
    Kent faces one count each of second-degree assault and second-degree criminal mischief.
    He also allegedly damaged an EKG machine by knocking it over while being restrained by security personnel, according to the court papers.

accused in rape,
home break-in

    SCHENECTADY — A homeless man has been accused of raping a woman Saturday afternoon.
    Joseph D. Jones, 22, forcibly held the victim against a fence and had sexual intercourse with her, according to papers fi led in court. Jones has been charged with third-degree rape.
    Jones also faces charges of burglary, criminal mischief and criminal contempt after a separate incident about 5 a.m. the next day, when he allegedly entered a residence, broke five windows, destroyed a ceiling fan and thermostat and damaged a washer, dryer and table, causing about $3,500 worth of damage.
    He violated an order of protection at the residence and displayed a knife and acted violently toward the victim, court papers allege.

Man allegedly had sex with girl, 13

    SCHENECTADY — A city man faces a felony charge for allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old girl.
    Haresh Ramgadoo, 20, of Albany Street, has been charged with second-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child.

City man accused of break-in, theft
    SCHENECTADY — A city man faces a felony charge, accused of breaking into a Broadway business and taking tools, authorities said.
    Shawn R. Hilts, 45, of Mohawk Court, was charged with one count of third-degree burglary, a felony, along with misdemeanor criminal mischief, petty larceny and possession of burglary tools.
    Hilts is accused of breaking into Burn’s Auto Center on Thursday evening and taking tools. He was arrested a short time later.

Man faces felonies in attack on woman
    SCHENECTADY — A city man faces felony assault and strangulation charges for allegedly attacking a woman in June, authorities said.
    Tyrone M. Smith, 26, of Chrisler Avenue, was arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, first-degree criminal contempt and other charges.
    Smith is accused of hitting the woman with a metal paint can June 18 at a Chrisler Avenue address and then grabbing her by the throat, choking her.
    She suffered welts and scratches, according to papers filed in court. The woman had an order of protection against Smith.

Amsterdam man
faces driving counts
    SCHENECTADY — An Amsterdam man has been indicted on reckless endangerment charges, Schenectady County District Attorney’s offi cials said.
    Jason Brundige, 37, of 170 Log City Road, faces two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and one count each of driving while ability impaired, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
    He is accused of driving under the influence and endangering others March 14 on Route 20 in Duanesburg, offi cials said.
    Also indicted Friday was Julian Metz, 36, of 127 College St. He faces two counts of aggravated criminal contempt, accused of violating an order of protection and causing physical injury Aug. 22 on Union Street, offi cials said.

    SCHENECTADY — A city man has been arrested in connection with a July incident in which he is accused of chasing his girlfriend with a handful of kitchen knives and throwing them at her, authorities said.
    Some of the knives landed near a sleeping 2-year-old child, according to papers filed in court.
    Luis Perez, 35, of 723 Raymond St., was arrested Sunday and charged with second-degree burglary and first-degree reckless endangerment, felonies.
    Perez is accused of breaking into his girlfriend’s apartment an hour after being told to leave and chasing her around the house with the knives. He also allegedly threw them at her, leaving knives sticking in a wall, the floor and a closet door. Neither she or the child were injured by the knives.
    Perez is also accused of beating the woman, forcing her head through a sheetrock wall, according to papers.
    Perez was also charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

Burglary alleged
on Broadway
    SCHENECTADY — A city man stands accused of breaking into an apartment on Broadway, authorities said.
    Billy Canton, 21, of 779 Albany St., Apt. 2, was charged Sept. 9 with second-degree burglary and fourthdegree criminal mischief.
    Canton is accused of breaking into the Broadway apartment Aug. 28, damaging an air conditioning unit and committing a theft, according to papers fi led in court.

City man accused of house burglary
    SCHENECTADY — A city man faces a burglary count, accused of breaking into an Orchard Street home, authorities said.
    Elijah McGuire, 31, of 1007 Strong St., was charged last week with one count of second-degree burglary and possession of burglar’s tools.
    McGuire is accused of breaking into the home Wednesday through a kitchen window. He is accused of taking a pair of binoculars and possessing a screwdriver as a burglar tool, according to papers fi led in court. He was arrested a short distance away from the home.

Teen charged with gunpoint robbery
    SCHENECTADY — A city teen faces charges in connection with a robbery earlier this month, authorities said.
    Mark A. Green, 18, of 1123 Albany St., was arrested last week and charged with one count of fi rst-degree robbery, along with seconddegree menacing and endangering the welfare of a child.
    Green is accused of robbing a 15-year-old at gunpoint Sept. 10 at McClellan and State streets. Green also received help from two other individuals, according to papers fi led in court.
    The three got away with $15 in cash and a cellphone, according to papers.
    Green was arrested Sept. 13 and initially charged with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.

Teen accused of
shooting at one,

    SCHENECTADY — A teen accused last week of attempted murder fired several shots at the victim, authorities said.
    Clarence Stanford, 16, of 835 Emmett St., faces one count each of second-degree attempted murder, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fi rst-degree gang assault.
    Stanford is accused of pointing a revolver at the victim and fi ring multiple shots around 2 a.m. Sept. 7 while the victim was fl eeing, according to papers filed in court.
    At about the same time, Stanford is accused of cutting a victim at Albany and Kelton streets, the wound going from behind the left ear, through the ear and continuing to near the victim’s nose, according to papers. The wound required numerous stitches to close.
    Also charged in the gang assault was Rupert Andrews, 27, of 334 Duane Ave.


Second teen accused in armed robbery
    SCHENECTADY — A second teen is facing charges in connection with a Sept. 10 robbery on State Street, authorities said.
    Tavon Rhodes, 17, of 11 Jackson Place, was charged Friday with one count of first-degree robbery. He is accused of working with two others to rob a victim of $15 in cash and a cellphone Sept. 10 at McClellan and State streets.
    Also charged in the robbery was Mark A. Green, 18, of 1123 Albany St., who faces single counts of fi rstdegree robbery, second-degree menacing and endangering the welfare of a child. Green is accused of robbing the 15-year-old victim at gunpoint.  Court papers suggest one other suspect remains at large.

burglarizing home
    SCHENECTADY — A city man faces a felony accusation of breaking into a home.
    David Williams, 39, of 3305 Ralph St., was charged last week with second-degree burglary and fi fth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Williams is accused of breaking into an Eastern Avenue residence Aug. 11, according to papers filed in court.

WHAT ABOUT THE CRIME IN ROTTERDAM....AND THE DRUG DEALERS HANGING OUT AT BURGER KING, CVS, MCDONALD'S, WALMARTS...and the crime is not all in the City.....they hang out at the MALL....nothing done about that.....should take a stand like Crossgates did.....Friday nites at the MALL is like HELL....no one does anything about that.....that's another critical part of the policing in this Town......Walk the beat .....and not leave everything to those security people in the mall....or that person that rides in the white vehicle.....Do something.

Man who bilked
woman in scam
paying restitution

    SCHENECTADY — A man who bilked tens thousands of dollars from a woman in a real estate investment scam is paying restitution.
    Shawn R. Hobbs of Albany had been arrested in 2008 on felony counts of first-degree scheming to defraud and second-degree grand larceny. He convinced two Capital Region women to invest tens of thousands of dollars in a bogus real estate venture.
    He pleaded guilty in September 2009 to a single count of seconddegree grand larceny and was due to receive a sentence of 2 1 /3 to seven years in prison. However, Schenectady County Court Judge Richard Giardino agreed to hold off on sentencing pending the status of the restitution.
    Hobbs was in court Thursday for an update on the case. The court has been able to collect about $50,000 in payments, according Schenectady County Assistant District Attorney Ed Moynihan.
    Moynihan said while two victims were named in the arrest Hobbs was only facing charges for one by the time the case was reviewed by the grand jury.
    One of the victims, Angela Capullo, was in court to receive a check from Hobbs for $3,000. He still owes $36,000.
    Capullo said it is unfortunate that she is in this situation. She lost her job last December and is thinking of starting up a business to sell clothing, with part of the proceeds going to raise breast cancer awareness.

Woman allegedly
got illegal benefits

    SCHENECTADY — Police arrested a city woman Thursday for allegedly failing to disclose income on two housing applications.
    Eginia R. Pasquarelli, 51, of 277 Steinmetz Homes allegedly did not tell Schenectady Municipal Housing Authority officials that her son was living with her and contributing his income to the household. She received benefits of $4,708 to which she was not entitled, according to papers filed in court.
    Pasquarelli was charged with two counts each of offer to fi le a false instrument and grand larceny, both felonies.

Police allege man hit boy with belt
    SCHENECTADY — A city man was arrested this week for allegedly hitting a 4-year-old boy with a belt.
    Justin E. Koonce, 23, of 169 Steinmetz Homes, allegedly struck the child three times between Dec. 31 and Jan. 4, causing pain, redness and swelling to his buttocks, according to papers filed in court.
    Koonce was charged Monday with felony second-degree assault and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child for the incidents, which allegedly took place at 2450 Van Vranken Ave. The relationship of Koonce to the child was unclear.

Ex-hospital staffer charged in theft
    SCHENECTADY — A former employee at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital has been charged with taking a woman’s wallet at the facility, authorities said.
    Holly Cary, 35, of 3 Ellsworth Drive, Delmar, was charged Wednesday with one count of fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony. She was arraigned and released under supervision of probation.
    Cary is accused of taking the wallet from a 60-year-old woman’s purse at Sunnyview on Sept. 1, according to papers filed in court.
    A spokeswoman for Sunnyview confirmed that Cary was employed at the facility but said she now no longer is.
    Cary’s listed attorney James E. Walsh could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Police: Woman fired shotgun
    SCHENECTADY — A city woman faces charges, accused of fi ring a sawed-off shotgun onto State Street on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
    No one was hit.
    Tamira Bell, 36, of 1005 State St., Apt. 2, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, along with second-degree reckless endangerment and unlawfully discharging a fi rearm.
    Bell is accused of firing the 12-gauge around 4:43 p.m. Thursday from outside her apartment, according to papers filed in court.
    Bell is also accused of possessing the shotgun despite having been convicted of a crime in 2001, according to papers.

Marijuana plants, gun found in raid
    SCHENECTADY — Two city residents face weapons and marijuana charges after a Thursday morning raid, accused of possessing an estimated 62 mature marijuana plants and a weapon, authorities said.
    Laun Baker, 34, of 48 McClellan St., and Parianne Gould, 29, of 32 Steuben St., were each charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony.
    They were arrested just after 6 a.m. at 32 Steuben St. Inside, police found the marijuana plants and a stun gun, according to papers fi led in court.
    Baker was charged with thirddegree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, because of a prior conviction. Gould was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

Man arrested in gas station holdup
    SCHENECTADY — A city man faces a robbery count in an April gas station holdup, authorities said.
    John D. Cole, 32, of 2620 Broadway, second floor, was arrested Wednesday and charged with second-degree robbery, fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree menacing.
    Cole is accused of holding up the Broadway USA Gas station April 8, pointing what appeared to be a handgun at the clerk and demanding money. Cole is accused of getting away with $300 in cash, according to papers filed in court.

Police say victim was hit with chair
    SCHENECTADY — An alleged assault with a wooden chair has a city man facing a felony charge, authorities said.
    Michael Wallace, 25, of 10 Paulding St., was charged Sept. 23 with one count of second-degree assault, a felony.
    Wallace is accused of striking the victim in the head and chest with a wooden chair Sept. 23 on Paulding Street, causing a swollen face, cut to the face and swollen elbow. The victim was treated at the scene, according to papers fi led in court. Energy fair moved to next weekend

    SCHENECTADY — Two city teens face charges, accused of snatching a woman’s purse last week, authorities said.
    Brendan Coogan, 17, of Moyston Street, and Tyshawn Cooper, 16, of Congress Street, were each charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree robbery, felonies.
    Coogan and Cooper are accused of taking the purse Oct. 6 on Nott Terrace, according to papers fi led in court.
    Cooper also faces a third-degree burglary charge and a third-degree criminal mischief charge in unrelated incidents.
    Cooper is accused of breaking into the Cumberland Farms on Crane Street on Oct. 5 and smashing a car window and taking a wallet that same day on Pleasant Street, according to papers.
