ballpark/dog park.....the fee for using it for your dog is 3 innings working in the concession stand.....

The supervisor knows where the new ballfields are going to built.  He always has.  Technically, this ball park is not a town park -- at least not yet.    The county is putting up the funds to purchase the property and the league -- along with the current owner has to come up with the plan to build  the fields  .. and presumably pay for the construction.

The Parks and Recreation Commission has not been approached on the matter as of yet.

Earlier this year at a town board meeting, he admitted that he didn't know where it was located.  As far as paying for the construction, that is what Mr. Supervisor stated that he was going to do a majority of the work pro bono.

I was at the meeting -- give the guy a break -- he knows where it is located .. he may just have not heard the question or had other things on his mind.
I know for a fact that he knows where it is -- because we were discussing it just the other day.

The Supervisor has offered to do some of the work and other have offered to do some of the work.   Materials cost something -- and at this point -- all those details have yet to be worked out.

remember there is much more to a prots field

proper sub base,

drainiage,

topsoil

and finally grass

which will need plenty of water and FERTALIZER

and if there is no irrigation or proper topsoil  - hold out for "Red Fescue"  it will survive in the crappy clay fill that shows up around town

It was suggested to me to come out and check out this blog........ I am almost sorry I did.  I am a part of the Park and rec COMMISSION, and have NO politcal agenda.  What I want is town parks for OUR KIDS to enjoy.  I really don't care who likes who and who doesn't, I don't care who hired who or why.... I definitely understand why there are 15 houses in just my neighborhood for sale.  Rotterdam is becoming Melrose Place....... it needs to stop!  As adults, we need to stop the name calling.....we teach our kids not to do that!  My mother always told me if you don't have nothing nice to say......... don't say anything!

You like public debate filtered through the bias media or the non debate allowed at Town Board meetings?  You ask a question of a board member, and you get the deer in headlights look and crickets chirping.  BTW...We have about 9 parks.  Please check the usage and get back to me.  Schalmont School has a projected reduction of enrollment and they closed 2 schools.  We definitely don't need MORE parks.  Maybe if we put XBOX or PS3 stations and T.V.'s at our parks, then there will be more usage.

Anyone that thinks the moving problem is "Melrose Place" and not record town taxes should immediately be removed from the Parks and Rec committee. There are 9 town parks and they want another one? These dolts remind me of the Albany Library Committee they keep spending and proposing more projects to make sure taxes keep going up. People are fleeing because of record County taxes on top of exploding town/school taxes. Not the lack of parks, bike paths or recreational opportunities. First identify the problem than you might find a solution.

People are selling their homes for 2 reasons...........if ya wanna move, this is the time.........it is a buyer's market.

Perhaps the other reason is due to the never ending mis-management of taxpayer's $$$$. And this is infamous in the entire county of schenectady. Remember, that schenectady county is the highest taxed county in all of NYS!!!

As far as this blog........after you sift through some of the rhetoric, it is real life people sharing real life experiences and their opinions and concerns. imho

Over two-thirds of respondents (all town residents) to a public opinion poll in November 2009 said they wanted a new general-use town park  ....
the town has owned 75 plus acres of land in Rotterdam Junction for 16 years  --- it acquired that land in the 1990's to develop a general-use town park ....   and additional 60 acres of state canal corp lands is available to be combined with the current Woestina Park  to become a part of the Bicentennial Park.

It would not cost the taxpayers a penny to acquire the land ... most of the cost of developing the general use park would be PRIVATELY funded .. and the rest would come from federal and state grants.

the only "dolts" are the folks who have decided to oppose a plan only because they dislike the person who heads the parks commission ...   these haters/naysayers  have never bothered to  learn the facts on this subject or any other subject ...  they just oppose anything from people they dislike personally and support anything that comes from a person with an (R) after his or her name.

NEWSFLASH-State and Federal grants come from the taxpayers. That's one problem you think grants grow on trees. I could care less who leads a commission or the results of some outdated poll. I could get the poll to say that 90% of residents do not want another park if it costs ANY more tax dollars. A member of your commission said that the problem with people fleeing town is a "Melrose Place" mentality not crushing taxes. If that's the group think on this commission then it should be disbanded. The town cannot afford to maintain any more park land.  The problem is not "Melrose Place" it's over reliance on the public purse.

for one I never said they were leaving because of Melrose Place...... I said this blog sounds like Melrose Place......everyone is so worried about who is hired by who for whatever reason and calling names.... is how adults in our community act???  Yes absolutely taxes are out of control and every elected official should be held accountable....it is not just one person, it is all the elected officials both dems and reps!  The name calling is just ridiculous..... I tell my kids........ unless you are willing to step up and fix the problem...... don't insult anyone else who is trying to fix it!  I am not sticking up for anyone and it was NOT Ron who told me to check out this blog page, it was another citizen who has no political position in town.
