Most government officials should 'expect' opposition. There are differences of opinions on just about EVERYTHING. That is what an o pen society is! The Republicans have been shunned because the governed the city and the county during the period when everything went to hell. Schenectady has problems like most Northeastern industrial cities -- it won't get better if folks like you and Vandenburgh are constantly tearing it down. BTW -- maybe you folks should be demanding that Vandenburgh sell his comfy house in Saratoga County and move to Troy (his old home town) or Schenectady --- and spend some time actually working to build them back up again. i'm still a resident but if I could sell my house I'd be outta here in a flash. My home is on the hill and I called real estate agents and they were forthcoming and said I couldn't get anything for my house right now, the way the economy is and high taxes. So I'm stuck here until things improve.
I was listening to a national news channel, can't remember which one right now, and a woman was talking about the foreclosures increasing and she said if your home was reassessed within the past five years than you are paying way too much in property taxes as home values have fallen over 30 percent. So I think this May many in Schenectady and all over should grieve their assessments. Hard in Schdy as they have the same old who just rubber stamp insufficient data. : (

There are people that would probably GIVE him a house if he paid the back taxes. I bet he doesn't really have the resources since being a man-boy living with the elderly aunts leads to not only a very undesirable social life, but a poor ability to handle real world financial problems. Being close to 50 and living with old ladies and trying to become a local tyrant doesn't prepare one for the bucket-of-cold-water in the face being a Schenectady homeowner really is.
