Del Gallo plans to run again for supervisor ROTTERDAM — Frank Del Gallo expects to run for another term as town supervisor. The incumbent said he has every intention of running again next fall, even if he’s not sure which party endorsement he’ll seek. His decision to run comes at a time when a number of others are contemplating a run for his seat. “I’m running like a bull,” he quipped during an interview Monday. “I’ll be bigger and better than before.” Del Gallo recently enrolled as a Democrat, less than a year after joining the Conservative Party. He won the supervisor’s seat in 2009 when he ran as an independent candidate endorsed by the Democrats. But his party switch won’t go into effect until after the race in November. That means he’ll need to take an extra step to secure a major party endorsement. Already, Brian McGarry has announced his intention to run again on the Republican ticket, though party leaders haven’t indicated whom they will endorse. During his 2009 campaign, he ran on the independent No New Tax Party line and was faulted by some Republicans as a spoiler during the election. Del Gallo beat incumbent Republican Steve Tommasone by only 250 votes. The fi scally conservative McGarry secured 1,493 votes, leading some to believe he received votes that would have otherwise gone to Tommasone.

My guess is that they would have to endorse the only true Dem, Calder. But this is not without risk as many would not like to see an ex-cop as Supervisor, it muddies the water during contract negotiation time. Also he is unproven as a TB member, although that is insignificant with this Board, IMO. |

The way you slaughter the english grammar you be a perfect fit. And FYI Avon...the Dems hope the GOP candidate is ST. He'd lose by a larger margin because McGarry votes were "ABS" votes. ( Anybody But Steve) |

I am not speculating who the REPS will run if anyone. I was second guessing who else "might be running" from the article. Since the poster directed the Forum to the article, ST is the only person mentioned that hasn't already declared they were in the race. The DEMS already go into this race sucking wind. They supported the incumbent, and now they have a new kid on the block. Looks like a DEM vote split which is great news to the other candidates! |

Sounds like a 'primary season'!
I'm not too sure that it would be an automatic failure for ST. He only lost by 250 votes. ST was a decent super until he 'changed allegiances after his first term. THAT is when the sh!t hit the fan for the rotterdam rep party. Now if anything, his 'new rotterdam allegiances may come back to haunt him.

There are three democraps that want it: Frank DG, Niki D, and Wayne. Only one can collect signature as a dem -The other two need the dem chair to authorize the signatures to count in the primary. Two are registered conservatives - MD and FDG. Both can collect signatures and primary as conservatives. Wayne would need the copservative chair to sign off and authorize him.
I have no idea who would win a Dem primary and would not publicly venture a wager on it. But if the dems party leaders do not WANT FDG, then I don't see a way he wins that primary, but in a copservative primary, who knows? I don't think the brass is behind FDG any more. That dagger went in a while ago and next daggers will come from the dems and the other interested parties who were happy to have his cash 15 months ago. Leading him to propose that big tax hike was kind of like giving him a box of canolis filled with rat poison, politically speaking (calm down, no one wants to kill him.)
On the GOP side there is one announced candidate - B. McGarry, and two candidates that may want the GOP line. Niki D and Steve Tommasone. Who the town committee will pick is up in the air. I can't imagine they will select Niki who turned to the dems and slammed the GOP, even though she was a GOPer in the past. But who knows? In a GOP primary, I lay good money on BM to win, and then win the general-and I know a few things about a GOP primary and the voters that will participate.
I think the main thing will be is if BM stays committed to running for that office. If he vacillates or backs down for any other offer, he is finished, If he wants to win he must stay that course no matter which carrots are hung in front of him by the cops or who ever, to get out. (i.e. copservative line to run for county leg.which I understand is another dagger for Angelo S to suck on from behind) Should BM take that offer to run for county, he wins not by a little but by a lot. He is beloved in Duanesburg, take my word for it. He is top dist. 4 vote getter if he wants it. He may even knock TJ out in the race as Angelo runs second to him.
Remember the trick to being brave is not to be too brave.
Take my prognosis for what it is and tear it apart if you want, it is very early and the election may as well be 100 years away.
If I went to Atlantic City, if I had 2 dollars to bet- my money is on BM. Just an opinion. |
